Kally wandered slowly down the beach, her hooves following the familiar path in the dark with no hesitation. As she walked her eyes rose thoughtfully to the sky. She suppressed a sigh at the lack of stars but she knew better than to hope for much this time of year. The clouds rolling in off the sea usually kept them obscured. She supposed she was lucky that there wasn't a storm brewing. It was actually an unseasonably mellow night which was what had lured her out of the cozy security of her hut to begin with. The building seemed a little larger and emptier now than it had been in the past. The blessing of being able to help Sariel rear her brood had made it feel full and welcoming if not even cramped at times. But those days were over. The foals had grown to adults and moved on with their own lives. Sariel had moved on to pursue her own path as well. Kally shook off a momentary wave of loneliness.She had grown so used to being surrounded by noise and bodies that even her frequent patients didn't quite fill the void. She stopped and sighed, glancing around herself, letting her gaze sweep the beach in all directions. She wasn't sure what she was looking for, not expecting to see anything really. A glimmer in the dark caught her eye. She had to look again to be sure it wan't just her mind playing tricks on her. But no, there it was. WC: 254
Nox pushed his way through the last few feet of foliage before he broke out of the edge of the tree line and onto the beach. It was a familiar motion to duck his head and let the cool leafy branches slide over his back. He had been doing it since he was a foal taking his first steps. He had always had a tendency to wander and explore. Always curious. Always thirsting for knowledge. Often times he had talked his siblings into following his lead, the three of them having, in his mind, grand adventures in the areas around their foalhood home. He sighed with relief as his hooves hit the sand, the sensation being familiar and comforting. He had always loved the beach. Especially at night when he could see the stars that were also mirrored in his coat and tresses. It seemed tonight that he was going to be deprived of the sight, the only light coming from the glow of himself. He wandered across the expanse of sand to the beach, stopping just short of letting the surf tickle the tips of his hooves. Motion in the dark turned his gaze to the side. A small smile flickered briefly across his lips as he recognized the mare making her way toward him. WC: 216

As soon as Kally realized that the glimmer she was seeing was in fact one of the younglings she had been missing, a thrill of excitement tickled along her skin. She watched as he broke from the trees and made his way to the edge of the water, the glow of stars in his mane in tail making his progress easy to track in the dark. She began making her way toward him, curious what may have brought him back to the beach this night. As she approached she called a soft greeting to him, "Hello Nox. Have you come to visit me for a time?" She knew that he had probably come seeking the clear expanse of the sky but it was always fun to think that one of the foals she had helped raise so fondly would have been inspired to come for a visit. She had made sure that they were aware that they were always welcome to her home any time they wished. WC: 167
Nox eyed the mare fondly as she greeted him. He felt much the same toward her as he did his mother, having been raised lovingly by both mares. "Hello Kally." he returned her greeting without answering her question. Truthfully he didn't know what had drawn him back to the beach this night. Perhaps he had wanted to visit, but then again perhaps not. It was a trivial point anyway as he was already there. “You should be in bed. It’s late.” He softened his observation with a small smile. He knew that it was uncommon for her to leave her home after dark. She was normally worn out from her days of caring for others. As a foal he had taken full advantage of all that she could teach him and he knew that her work could be taxing as much as it was rewarding. WC:145
