Genji walked toward the nearly-disappeared sun, the glow from his chest stretching forward just enough to light the ground a couple of steps ahead. His sides heaved with exertion as he climbed up the steep path, a handful of fairly fresh wounds slowly oozing, his head hanging low and his balance unsteady. He’d won that last fight but it hadn’t been easy, and he was very obviously in bad shape. Some part of him hoped he wouldn’t come across anything or anyone hostile, but he was in completely new territory. The rest of him just didn’t care…his heart hurt more than any injury could. He didn’t know how long exactly he had been roaming around recklessly picking fights he wasn’t sure he could win, but he figured it was probably the better part of a year at this point. Long enough that he was starting to consider the idea of actually dealing with his feelings instead of running from them, but so far nothing had given him enough of a push. Not that he was doing much in the way of looking for one, but after his lifemates died he just figured the universe was toying with him and there wasn’t much point in trying to do much of anything purposeful. As far as Genji was concerned, he might as well just wait for whatever was supposed to be next to happen to him in its own time.

Unexpectedly, in the fading light, out of the corner of his eye he thought he saw not one, not two, but THREE moons low in the sky. He closed his eyes and shook his lowered head, trying to clear the fatigue, and bumped into something large and warm and solid. His eyes snapped open only to see enormous clawed paws next to his hooves, and in a panic he scrambled a few paces backwards, getting ready to defend himself. He knew this was NOT the time to have to fight a pawed anything but he was clearly already in some sort of a pickle. With a gulp, Genji raised his head, and… stared straight into a gorgeous pair of softly golden eyes. His mouth fell open slightly in surprise, and before he could think of what he actually might want to say in a resigned, weary tone he muttered, “please don’t make me have to fight you.”

The fading light meant it was time to finish up his survey of the packs shared territory. Smiling fondly Faelan went about tidying up..occasionally tossing small twigs out of the path. They’d been working extremely hard to not leave a well worn pathway, the boy’s all claimed that was dangerous. However the ever soft hearted Faelan wished for the boys to always ALWAYS be able to find their way home. Paws leading him to the outer most edges, just as he was set to turn back towards ‘home’..something bumped his chest. Alarm bells began going off, the stench of blood and something /off/ had his hackles rising. On edge and prepared to defend himself, he instead saw a battered stranger. This stranger’s words made Fae’s heart wrench and instead of being frightened he gave a soft huff..nose gently booping the others forehead..mindful of the horns. “We don’t need to fight. If you ask me you’ve had enough fights for one day..easy there..easy.” Tone low and as soothing as possible Fae tried to coax the poor dear a few steps to the right. To a softer spot beneath a wide old tree. “Rest your body..no one will hurt you.” Having been a father for a number of years now & being adoptive father to a rambunctious puppy like stallion gave Fae a small advantage. He hoped. The boys were not going to be pleased when morning came but, that was tomorrow’s problem. For tonight he was more concerned about calming the male and treating his wounds. “Won’t you lay down? I promise on my life you’ll be safe here. My name is Faelan. You’ve stumbled into my families new territory.” Beaming bright as the rising moon he waited to see if this would end badly or decently. Keeping his stance relaxed & ears low he tried once more to ease the stallion. “You are safe.” Mind rushing he continued to be still..remembering where their healing herbs were stored; taking mental stock of what they’d need to find more of.

Genji's eyes had drifted shut for longer than he intended them to. It had started as a blink but he was so, so weary... and then he felt a touch on his forehead and warm breath too and startled a little, eyes flying back open, but the other stallion had already backed up a bit and was speaking soothingly. It took Genji's brain a moment to comprehend the words. Not only did this guy not want to fight, but he was offering to help and protect him? He didn't know what he had done to earn this gift but he didn't have energy to question it or be cautious and wary; the need to rest and recover was much too great and he would just have to take his chances. He stumbled over to something solid and immovable nearby, half falling as he laid down with one side against it. His head swiveled - looked like rocks. Perfect. Might as well protect part of his body with the natural features available. Either it would make the blue stallion's job of protecting him easier or it would give Genji one side he wouldn't have to worry about protecting if he really did need to try and fight after all. "Uh... thank you," he said roughly. "You are very kind, Faelan. My name is Genji." He started to say something else, but the weariness overtook him and he stopped talking, heavy head leaned against the rock face so he didn't have to hold the whole thing up himself for a while. Making the smallest sound of concern Faelan followed to the other’s chosen resting spot. Not the most comfortable but, he would make it work! “Genji..that’s a lovely name. Stay right there.” Voice the same soothing rumble Faelan swiftly leapt back along the path. Tiptoeing around his gaggle of slumbering sons & their mates..he oh so carefully gathered supplies. With it all in tow he wasted little time, paws leading back to the wounded Genji. Gentle ministrations and a few soft nuzzles later had mashed herbs layered over the worst wounds. The medicinal taste was super unpleasant..leaving Fae with tingles in his mouth. Ick.
“The herbs will numb the pain..and begin healing them. Tomorrow you’ll need a bath.” Words brooking no argument he settled himself next to Genji’s side. Humming a soft song that had often soothed his children to sleep, his own eyes gradually slipped closed. Sleep was not dreamless..nightmares twisted through his head..body outwardly twitching. Whining aloud he tried to escape, paws scraping in the dirt & grass. Turning to one side his face pushed against Genji's neck.. it was the feeling of warmth, the steady heart beat that made the nightmares fade away. --------- As morning's first light began warming the world Faelan stirred, squinting in mild confusion. Morning had never been easy for the stallion, after three terrible head injuries he often awakened with jumbled memories. Frowning he tried to recount the former days events..head still content to rest on Genji. "Mmm..too bright. My head hurts., someone make it go awayyy." Tone bordering on petulant the blue coated male continued to cuddle, unhurried in his actions as memories started to piece themselves together.

Genji blinked wearily up at the blue pawed stallion, each blink slow and laborious, perplexed at this level of kindness from a stranger. Why was he helping, did he want something? But even through his weariness and pain, Genji could tell that all of this assistance seemed, well... genuine. The very concept perplexed him. The only other Soquili he knew who were kind and giving in this way were his mother and grandmothers; even his younger brother would only go so far for a stranger that was this wounded because who knew what sort of trouble they could have coming after them and that pesky brother of his always played it safe - a trait that Genji found himself entirely unable to understand. To have absolutely randomly stumbled into a stranger who was like all the mares in his family, and at a time when he needed it most... even he could not deny that it was an extremely strong sign, and not one to be ignored. When Faelan settled in next to him, Genji let out a soft snort of surprise, and then before he could help himself, he drifted off to sleep, soon settling into deep slumber.

His eyes cracked open the next morning at the sound of a mostly, but not completely, unfamiliar voice mumbling very close to him. Genji blinked, hazy and dazed, before remembering why there was a warm and rather nice smelling stallion next to him. Make it go away? he thought. Did Faelan mean the sunlight? He cracked a smile at the idea of being able to banish and summon the sun at will. For someone special, he would do it, if he had that power. He didn't, but he did have the purple glow to help dim the brightness of the morning sun a bit, and he extended it out from his chest to hover in front of the other's eyes, letting it shimmer and waver naturally while changing the hue of the light for him. Genji was in no hurry to get up; he had not slept that soundly or felt that safe in a very long time. (356)
