[Solo| Hero’s Never Say Die (Argento x Sah)

It hadn’t been that long since Argento had grown big that he, slowly but surely, began to venture out on his own more and more. He was only a little hesitant because he knew little about the world outside of his family’s grotto tucked away within the forest. It was so secluded unless you knew which path to take or accidentally stumbled upon it you would never find it. But that was the way his mother liked it. With the changing world and new threats she had withdrawn most of the family to there where they could grow but be protected.

Some would say maybe that left him a little sheltered and unaware of the realities of the outside world but the dappled stallion was taught much too by the older members of the family. So while his experiences were limited he would at least be prepared with a little bit of knowledge to at least help him get by.

He had increased the distance in which he ventured each day and soon he would leave the shelter of the trees which he had come to know like the back of his hood.

One day he had stumbled upon a two legger group hunting on the edge of the forest. When they had spotted him they seemed surprised but non threatening. He wasn’t too worried about them hurting him, he was rather strong. But Esparda had warned him that if they ever had ropes to run away as fast as he could.

But he hadn’t returned to that part of the forest in a few days. Giving the two leggers time to move on.

No today he had returned to a large field he had discovered on the eastern edge of the forest that lead to the open plains. He’d snuffled around for a bit takingin all the new scents and listening to all the new sounds that he could hear. With each new venture he made his heart rushed with excitement but he made sure to remain vigilant of what was going on around him.

Argento did not want to start off his adventures in a bad situation.

It had been a very long time since Sah had come down from the snowy mountains. Much preferring the snow and icy winds of the highest peaks where none could reach him. It was his domain and he liked it that way.

Woe to anyone who trespassed.

But today, for some unknown reason he could not figure he had this niggling desire to leave the mountains and venture into the valley. For a bit of fun.

Killing prey was well and all but it had been a long time since he had had some REAL fun. Which often meant someone was going to have a very, very bad day. Feeling sorry for whomever would be his next victim just wasn’t in him as all. No remorse. No feelings of guilt.

What he was about to do was what his blood screamed for.

He moved through the lowlands. Stark white against the drab late winter background. It would have been easier to lurk if there was still more snow in the ground but he wasn’t looking to lurk. He was looking for engagement. If someone spotted him and ran it would probably kick in his prey drive and he would run them down mercilessly.

Part of him wanted that.

The other part….

The sound of hood steps nearby and the scent of warm meat snapped his head in its direction. Padded paws treading lightly across the ground as his pace quickened. Sah had to restrain himself from full on running.

The day so far had been rather uneventful. Argento had been hoping that something would happen so that he could snap right into doing something heroic.

But that just wasn’t to be the case it seemed.

Luckily there was an apple tree in this field which had some leftover apples from the season. They problems wouldn’t be as good as they probably would have at the beginning of the season but that was ok. Sauntering up to the tree he turned and gave it a great kick with his back hoof. The tree rocked and shook but nothing fell to the ground. He kicked it again, harder this time, and the tree shook violently again. A few apples broke away and fell to the ground. A satisfied smile crossed his lips as he turned and picked one up off the ground before taking a bite. It was sweet but a little tart too.

While he stood there munching away at the apples Argento didn’t notice the stark white figure that crept closer and closer.

At least not right away.

It wasn’t until the distinct smell of rotting meat and the soft rustle of grass nearby that his head snapped around. Ears perked as he spotted the other Soquili. His eyes took in every feature of the creature. His attention especially the pelt that was upon it’s back.

Walker….

He had heard tales of these Soquili from his grandparents. There were two types, charmed and uncharmed. Both could be deadly depending on their temperament. But the uncharmed especially. His grandfather said they were crazy and blood thirsty beasts. But which was this one? It wasn’t close enough for him to see any charms.

Argento would have to be cautious.

A tingly feeling tan along Sah’s spine as the stallion finally became aware of his presence. It was a feeling he had felt before but never actually could place what it was.

Thrill?

If he could pick a word to describe it it would probably be that one. He was only ever really in touch with a limited number of feelings. Joy and happiness were strangers to him. Hate and rage were his comforts. Although he didn’t hate anyone specifically. It was just the way they had all looked at him. With pity and disgust.

He would rip all their eyes out.

A wide grin came to his lips as he drew closer. Sharp teeth glinting in the sunlight as he pulled himself to his full height. Large and domineering. Sah towered over many. He was a creature to be feared.

Run…

The word growled in the back of his mind as he willed the stallion to flee. The moment he did the hunt would be on. But Dah wouldn’t just run him down like some common rabbit. No. You didn’t do that with this type of prey.

RUN…..

Icy blue eyes were wild yet focused. Teeth bared he let out a low, rumbling growl. The pelt on his back prickling with anticipation. Sometimes he wondered if it had a mind of its own. There were times where he questioned weither or not his wants and needs were his own or the pelts.

No!

These were his thoughts and his alone.

The look that the Walker was giving him told Argento everything he needed to know. This creature looked at him like he was a piece of meat to be ran down and devoured.

Turning to face the other, one ear flicked nervously but that was the only indication that he gave that he was unsure about standing his ground. He had no claws or sharp teeth to defend himself from the claws and teeth of the Walker. But he had some pretty powerful legs that could strike a decent blow if aimed correctly. His nephews and Imri had helped show him how to defend himself but outright fighting was never part of any lesson.

He would have to hope the defense he learned would be enough if the Walker was able to get too close.

Argento had a mind to turn and run. Not because he was scared, because inside he kind of was. But if he ran he knew he would run home and he couldn’t bring this blood thirsty beast home to his family. Or allow it to know where they were for it to come at a later date and hurt them.

“Come no closer, Walker!” Argento puffed out his chest and stomped a front hoof in defiance. The pitch in his voice betrayed him.
