Caelean let Thorne pull him over to the couch, and he settled in next to him, resting against him and taking long drinks from the chalice. It filled right back up when he finished, which was much to his benefit; he had been hungry. hungrier than he realized before they were rescued, and with fresh vitae in front of him, well.
Perhaps he was a little greedy, a little ill mannered. He was Thorne's precious dog, after all.
His ears flicked towards Grendel, listening as he explained the origins of their predicament. They dropped, quickly, unhappily; that was not exactly good news.
"So that was an actual God, then." He huffed. "Well, ********, it wasn't polite to swear in front of his father in law. Caelean did not care. It accurately expressed his feelings on the whole situation.
(Maybe he should have felt ashamed about sneaking off before the offer of protection could be given, at the party. He didn't. They'd had a much better time privately than they could have at a big family dinner.)

“Of, ********, course.” Thorne let the words stretch and linger about in the air. It are sense. If this Goddess had a thing out for Grendel it only made sense she would come after him. He did have his father’s red hair afterall and if that wasn’t a calling card he didn’t know what was. “So what did you do to piss her off? You can’t tell me you just existing is why.” He peered at his father over the rim of his cup as he took another slow sip. Thorne’s hand found it’s way to Caelean’s back and he dug his claws into the male’s fur. He was hungry, that was obvious, but he didn’t need to act like a little piggie. Thorne almost choked at Grendel’s last statement, dark eyes seemed to darken more as a rage simmered there. “So it’s my fault that you didn’t see it as important enough to come tell me right away. How was I supposed to know? This is the first time you’ve actually talked to me I’m not a ******** mind reader.” Thorne didn’t care about swearing in front of Grendel. He owed him not fatherly respect. Sure he was grateful for the rescue of him and his mate but any connection there was minimal. “You will excuse me if I decided to have my own fun away from that s**t show.”

Caelean felt Thorne's claws dig into his shoulder and shot his mate a flat look over the rim of his own glass. Still, there was something familiar in that--at least they weren't going to pretend to be mushy, romantic idiots from now on.
And he also did slow down somewhat.
"Maybe it'd be better if we did stay here," he said. "Especially considering, you know. What we discussed." Not that he was per se shy, Caelean just wasn't exactly eager to talk about them planning a family in front of Thorne's estranged father. Seemed like a very unfun time, if you asked him. "Who knows if this deity will want another shot."
....If she went after his kids, Caelean would rip her apart, deity or no.

Although he hated to admit it Caelean did have a point. The red headed vampire tapped a claw against his mate’s shoulder a few times as he pondered the idea. Just because he lived here didn’t mean he’d have to interact with anyone. Which he more than likely wouldn’t. But he had to weigh the pros and the cons. If they were going to start a family he certainly wanted them safe from harm. But would the temple be enough? He glanced around the room as if measuring it against some standard he had set in his mind. If they were going to stay to protect their family he wanted absolute certainty that what he was agreeing to was adequate. Thorne glanced back at Caelean. The memories of their time in the dungeon flooding back, his stomach tightening. Thorne didn’t care if Grendel knew or not that they were planning on children. A quiet smirk coming to his lips. “Fine. We’ll stay.” He wasn’t thinking of himself in this decision. Thorne was, for the most part, thinking of Caelean and their future children. Them he would keep safe however he could, even if it meant living here. “That’s your freebie for the month Caelean, no more asks.” Was he joking? Maybe, although in all seriousness he probably wasn’t.

There was a tightening around Grendel's eyes at Thorne's words, the barest hint of his irritation, considering the vast amount of effort it took not to send Thorne straight back to the dungeon that the God had just rescued him from. A little gratitude might have been nice. "Yes. Just for existing. I have done nothing to her. In fact, I have never even met her. Perhaps she and my father had some sort of disagreement, but I was not privy to that information. He told me very little. I guess we have that in common." He waited then. They were having their quiet discussion, words said between looks and with body language as much as what was vocal. Thorne and Caelean could decide they wanted to stay or leave, and Grendel would not pressure them either way. But it seemed they had perhaps come to a decision. "Choose an area of the temple then for yourselves. You can come and go as you please, but there are usually fresh bodies in the dungeon for food if you need them. The temple areas that are for my personal or private use are warded, and you won't be able to enter. If a door is locked, it's not for you." He regarded them both a little longer. Grendel had no real relationship with most of his children, and it was hard for him to decide whether or not he regretted it. His position in the world made him feel so distant from these things, a certain disconnect that the divine possessed that would always keep them separated from the mortal world, at least in some way. "I offered your brothers and sisters protection, like an invisible shield to keep you safe from fatal harm. Would you like that?" His voice was a quiet rumble. He had a feeling he already knew the answer unless Thorne surprised him. He was, by far, the most prickly of his current children.

It sounded good, if Caelean was honest. Home in a nice, cushy temple, where they would be safe, with abundant food and no reason to fear attack.
And it was a place of their own, of sorts. A home they could stay in that was theirs, where Caelean would feel as much like he belonged as Thorne did. Yeah, this was....going to be good.
"Yeah, yeah. Wouldn't dare push my luck." Still, he leaned a little closer to Thorne, taking up just that bit more of his mate's space.
Grendel's offer of protection made him give Thorne a look, but he didn't press out loud. It had to be Thorne's choice, no matter how much Caelan hoped he took the protection.

Thorne knew of his grandfather only by name. He knew about as much about him as he did Grendel. The irony of Grendel’s statement was not lost on him. Thorne was smarter than most gave him credit for, probably because they typically med his ire first and foremost. He just didn’t have time for stupid people. But if Caelean wanted to be here he would, begrudgingly, oblige. For now. There were a number of criteria that would cause him to just up and leave at a moments notice. The idea of being around his family was not a happy one, let alone if Cassius was here. His dark gaze moved from Caelean to Grendel as the offer of protection was laid out on the table. He glanced at Caelean out of the corner of his eye, catching that look that he gave him. He’s out for it later. For now he had a choice to make. On one hand he wasn’t some scared little vampire who wanted protecting so the gift was looked at in a more logical way. If he had it he could keep his family safe without the chance of being killed. If this Godess was anything to be worried about. It niggled in the back of his mind annoyingly. Why did he always get dragged into this s**t? He tucked a stray strand of red hair behind his ear. “Fine. I’ll take it.”
