It had been a few days since their return to the temple. Only he and Grendel had not returned alone. Somehow they had managed to acquire two eggs on their vacation which had cut it short.

Maybe a little shorter than Ravnos would have liked. But even I that short amount of time they had shared a lot. Physically, emotionally. Everything that had happened had straightened some things out. The stress of the dream mostly forgotten but it still lingered in the back of the Dosciples mind.

He had rarely left their separate living area, sprucing it up with the items he thought they might require plus some extra things. A soft rug for their bedroom so they did not have to deal with the cold floor. Various bits of furniture. Besides their own bedroom Ravnos had spent the other majority of his time in the nursery. Once he had finally gotten it like he liked it he could relax.

Mostly.

Grendel had come and gone to check up on him and the two eggs but for the most part he stood out of Ravnos’s way. Allowing him to make the decisions the needed to be made. Bringing him blood when he required it. The Disciple had worked tirelessly while he was awake though there was still quite a bit to do and the day he guesses were their hatch date was approaching quickly.

He could have sworn he heard a tiny sneeze the other day and would occasionally press his ear against each egg’s surface. Trying pinpoint which egg it had come from. But alas bright gave up that information.

The room he had choosen had windows that faced the setting sun. Easy enough to keep the sunlight out of the room but open them at night without risk of forgetting an a rising sun getting into the room. Like that would ever happen. Not with Ravnos of duty. And he was sure Grendel could magic up some kind of shield of protection. Maybe. Now that he thought of it he wasn’t entirely sure what kind of powers the God actually had. It always seemed like a new one popped up every few days and it was hard to keep track.

Milling about the nursery he straightened a stack of cloth a couple times and then straightened it a third time.

To say he was excited was an understatement . When he slept he brought the eggs into their bedroom with him. Nestling them among blankets while he slept, only to awaken to find they had been moved back to the nursery. By Grendel of course who would grumble something about not wanting Ravnos to get used to them being in their bed as the babies would have to sleep in their own cribs.

They would see about that when they crossed that bridge.

But not he was beginning to get restless. How long did is actually take for them to hatch? A week? Two weeks? Ravnos discovered he actually knew very little about eggs and even less about babies. Was this the right cloth diaper to use? Were these tiny hats warm enough? Was this soap really no tears? Well, he wasn’t about to put it in his eyes to find out.

Why had he not payed more attention when his mother had had Clementina? That would have been some invaluable knowledge he was sure. It was a bit too late to think about what ifs now. His mind was preoccupied by the here and now. Mostly Grendel and the eggs.

Speaking of Grendel he had had some time to think about them as well. Sitting in quiet contemplation as he twirled the black ring with the blood red stone side to side on his finger. The stone reminding him of the God’s eyes. How they sparkles and shined like the stone with happiness these past few days. He never wanted to see that disappear from his eyes. Ever. Ravnos would fight his hardest to keep them that way. There was a lighter airiness to the God whenever he was around. Surely his work brought him troubles abound but when he returned to their living quarters Ravnos tried his best to chase the gloom away.

Standing over the large, hand carved crib he ran his hand lovingly over each egg. Bending down to press an ear against each. Hoping that it wouldn’t be too long now.

Ravnos had been been many places over the centuries. In many various situations. He had been poor, rich, had traveled far and wide yet rarely found a place where he wanted to stay. But here? He wanted to stay here. The wander lust still pulled at the edges of his mind but for now he had focus. Which only mildly worried him for the future. He had never raised any of his other children and spent the majority of their lives wandering. He….didn’t want that this time. He wanted to play a part and honestly besides him or Grendel there was no one else. So responsibility called to him. Just another in the long line of things.

Then he began to wonder what their children would be like. Look like. Dark fur with red hair? Pale with black? Would their personalities be broody like Grendel’s or a bit more free spirited like his? There were so many possibilities he almost couldn’t think of them all.

But then his thoughts wandered to his own children. The ones he had fathered with others. He avoided the subject of Zapathasura entirely lest he summon that monster to life before him. Amria was in good hands with Jorge, he had been happy when the two had matched. At least that way he could show the Baroness that her daughter was taken care of. Even if by another clan member. But he has high hopes for Jorge. As silly as he could be sometimes. And on down through the line he thought of Jackal and Sparrow. The young boy with skinned knees he remembered so vividly when Amria had brought him to meet him the first time. And now he too was a father. How time flew.

Sereza and Ezo. He spent less time with her and her son than he had the others and he regretted that a bit. But Sereza had always had a good head on her shoulders and Ezo’s temperament was good as well.

His only problem child….Zapathasura.

Ravnos’s head snapped up and he looked around warily. As if expecting him to pop out of the shadows at any moment. Grendel would have killed him if he came here. If he was even still alive. And yet a tiny thought niggled in the back of the Disciple’s mind. That he was alive and still a threat.

What had his mother done to him to break his mind like this? So much so that he would threaten his siblings. Some of which were Grendel’s children too. But if he was a threat to the older children he eas a threat to these two and any others he and Grendel had. His brows furrowed as green eyes stared, piercing at the two eggs before him.

No.
