It was funny how age and maturity could change a person's view on the world. Viktor had had a recent change in his personal standing. He had cleaned himself up, finally stopped fighting against a system that his father rambled and raved about, only to find himself excelling in taking advantage of that world. He couldn't be certain what switch had finally been flipped, but Viktor had moved away from being under Vord's thumb and had wound up thriving for it.

There was a method to his madness. He showed up in a city, quickly made inroads with one of the local favorites with some flirting over drinks, and then wound up being invited to a party of some renown. From there, Viktor made further connections and found a few targets among the party goers. He typically stuck to the clanless sorts, but that wasn't always the case and the party he was going to tonight happened to have a few clanned sorts from... well, he forgot. It wasn't like they were important or anything like that. They were all supposed to be low ranking ones too, so it really didn't matter where they came from.

Viktor fixed the collar of his cream colored shirt and then made sure that his butt did indeed look good in the dark blue pants before setting off. The sunset had finished itself off about an hour past, meaning his walk was filled with fresh night air as he made his way downtown in... well, he had already forgotten this city's name but that was alright. He'd remember when he was looking at a map to pick out his next mark.

The party itself was a fancy, well to do affair at someone's manor. Viktor had brought along a mask to go along with the half cape he had shrugged on moments before leaving the rented room he had been holed up in. A masked ball... or something more modern. The theme was masks, but the vibe of the party was more modern as heavy bass greeted his ears. Deep reds and purples decorated the main room along with gilded... well, everything. The pretty woman who owned the place was some Elder's mistress, which meant she had plenty of money to throw around on such things.

Viktor took a breath and moved through the party, smiling a bit of a greeting to a few he knew under the cream mask. It was easy enough to pick people out. Masks hid very little unless someone had magic or a full disguise to hide themselves. He grabbed a drink on a passing tray and stopped while standing next to another woman he had never met before. Friend of a friend, perhaps? No one seemed to be around her... at least currently. Which meant that Viktor could easily see if she was someone worth knowing, at least for a little while. "Friend of the hostess?" He smiled towards her, tilting his head to the side so his green hair dramatically fell across his forehead. Everything was calculated, from the way his lean body angled itself to how his hair was styled.

One way or another he was leaving this party with his pockets heavier.

User ImageThe party was in full-swing by the time Minuet had arrived, which was just as well for the vampiress. She was not a guest, at least not in any sort of official sense of the word; she was, however, the night's entertainment, or at least, part of it. She was meant to sing a few songs later in the evening, but after checking in, had been encouraged to mingle until the appropriate hour. It was, of course, all part of the job -- to mingle among the crowd, to praise the night's host, and generally be a pretty ornament among the high and mighty.

She would have preferred if some of her sisters might have been invited to perform as well, if only for their company -- but as it was, she would sing solo tonight, with the only accompaniment a piano.

It had been a masquerade party, and Minuet had chosen a black dress, with lovely fringe. It stood out against her pale, milky coat. Her hair was stylized up upon her head, and she wore a black mask, decorated with rhinestones. It was reminiscent to that of a swan, with a few white markings for flair. She had picked up a long stemmed glass, and found an unoccupied corner of the room to watch, and wait. She could well be social when she wished, but she didn't mind simply enjoying the revelry of others.

"Friend of the hostess?"

Someone had stopped nearby, and while Minuet had noted their presence, she hadn't given them much thought. Just another guest, she assumed. Still, she let her lips curl into a small smile, and turned her eyes to admire him. It wasn't difficult to do, of course -- there were very few among the party that didn't look dazzling, and this stranger was no exception. She let her eyes drink him in, for just a moment, before giving a small shake of her head. "Actually, no," she corrected, though she didn't explain what she was. He'd find out soon enough. "Consider me just an additional ornament. And you?" She tilted her head to the side, watching him drolly. He certainly cut a striking figure, and seemed to ooze self-confidence. It wasn't a difficult thing to admire.

Music was always key at any party, as long as it wasn't blasting to the point where you couldn't hear yourself think. Or at least, that was Viktor thought. There were a number of places around that preferred to have the bassline beat in place of a non-functional heart and Viktor found that he avoided those places.

Consider me just an additional ornament. And you? One eyebrow lifted above the other before Viktor offered the woman a bit of a shrug. "Friend of a friend of a friend." That much was true, and Viktor found that telling the truth was a wonderful way to convince anyone else that you weren't prone to lying and conning. Even among vampire circles. Dancing along the edge of the truth was where the art of conning lay. "That... someone figured I could make my own friends here. Or something like that, I'm told." He took another sip of his drink and let his eyes glance around again, but that same gaze wandered back to the woman next to him. She really was a pretty one, so he couldn't help but admire the way she looked.

Looks were everything and nothing in the vampire world, all at once. Immortal undead beings seemed to like pretty things, but also understood they could be a dime a dozen... a rare beauty might have been different. Viktor was only thinking of his own popularity sky rocketing after he started dressing nicer and taking care of himself... unlike his father.

But he had misunderstood what Minuet had meant. "Whose arm candy are you here as? I really hope not the one who calls himself Count... something or other. Entirely too pompous for anyone with witty lines." Viktor turned a little more towards the purple haired woman, deciding for the moment she was the one he wanted to make conversation with. If he could figure out who she was here with... well, that might have been a good target all the same.

Minuet didn't mind giving the stranger her full attention for the time being. She wasn't due to take the stage for a few numbers yet, and then, it would be her voice that would shine. She was just the vessel for the magic, after all. For now though, she had little trouble having someone to talk to, and a handsome fellow at that. His dark coat was fetching, along with his thick, gorgeous, green locks of hair. It was a pity this was a masquerade, and he'd spend a good amount of time hiding behind a mask.

"You'll find yourself in good company then," she mused, "I know very few of the guests," she confessed with a smile. "Let me assure you though, I am certainly not Count Vozukavich's arm candy, nor have any connection with him--though he seems only too happy to talk twice as boisterously as the loudest in the room. He's far too keen to boast of his name, and talk for far too long about his three estates, power, and brilliance to anyone who passes. A regular show boat, if ever I've seen one," she chuckled drylye, even as she crinkled her nose in distaste.

"A little more humility and reserve would serve him quite well, I think" she mused, giving Viktor a small smile. "I'm afraid, sir, at present you find me all alone," she admitted. She didn't need to tell him she never had an arm to decorate -- he could imagine whatever he wished. She knew how to play the part of a pretty lady at a ball... This was all a game, anyway. Either he was here to make friends, flirt, or play politics.... but Minuet didn't mind. She was just the resident songbird, who would soon be free to leave or linger, on her own terms.

"How goes the making of friends, monsieur?" Minuet decided to ask, turning the conversation back to Viktor. He had mentioned being here alone... perhaps she could help.
