Wow.. I've lived in LA since I was four and I have never used Y'all or Ain't. I think some of you may find it snotty of me, but I refuse to take up the southern accent. The only word that comes out that way is "your." It automatically comes out as "yer." redface

While I agree with you that "ain't" is an abomination, it has been showing up in dictionaries recently. It's simply the evolution of our language. Many words we accept and use today were unheard of several hundred years ago. Just read an Edgar Allen Poe story. He spells out words that we commonly contract today.

The good old days... where everyone who could actually write was so proud of it that they did it as correctly as they could.

As people have been mentioning, 'ain't' is part of an accent, and should not be part of writing, unless deliberatey trying to imply an accent.
I completely agree with you. 3nodding

By the way, shouldn't the title of this topic be "Ain't is not a word yet" instead of "Ain't still is not a word"? The lattest just sounds weird. sweatdrop

Me too, I use ain't ,since it is part of my accent, everyday.
I never use it in my writing unless I'm implying my accent.
