At my school, you have a choice of either taking Italian, French, Japanese, or Spanish. Since I'm an avid anime fan, I really wanted to take Japanese, so I could one day go to Japan and speak to the people there in their native tongue. But, in comes my mother: "You should take Spanish because it'll be more useful to you in the future." I mean, I completely agree with what Kukushka said about how people who learn languages for economic reasons are missing out. And my mother should just butt out of my personal choices. I mean, it's not like I'm going to get a job somewhere in the city, where loads of Hispanic people live. I'm aiming for something more worthwhile than that, thank you very much.
You can paint your life a rainbow of colors.
I think knowing both Spanish and Japanese would be useful.
As for getting a "job somewhere in the city, where loads of Hispanic people live," they may not pay much for a future psychiatrist such as myself, but they need the help the most. For me, that is very worthwhile. Yes, I do live in a Hispanic community, and I am a Hispanic, but you know what? I want to learn Japanese as well as Spanish; knowing both will help. biggrin That's just my opinion.
