whats up with that?

I'm confused...(I thought I should post this in here since it is about dead birds)
I have had a pet bird for longer than I had the eldest son(he just turned to a teen) and the pet bird was hungry so I told one of my sims to go and feed it and they did but a few sim minutes later the bird dies...how did this happen if I fed it?

Unfortunatley I don't know but by the sounds of things, Sim birds obviously favour the afterlife to the here and now.

I'm gonna guess that if you've had the bird for a long time that even if you do feed them, they'll die of old age..
