These are in approximate order of date written. ^^ Please enjoy and comment on whichever/whatever.
------------------------------------------------

Her Majesty
---------------
Mighty and majestic is the grizzly bear,
Standing sentry for her family.
Up on her hind paws, sniffing the air,
Testing every scent on the spring breeze.

I stand watching her and feel helpless.
I raise a viewing device to my awestruck eyes,
And wait to get a clear shot of her Majesty.
I click my shutter just as a shot rings out,
And I realize I have just witnessed murder.

I see not the culprit, but only the victim,
Lying in a slowly growing pool of blood,
Her cubs hiding in their sheltered haven.
However, hiding cannot save them from starvation.
The orphaned royalty whimper in fear,
Their doom is now sealed.

----------------------------------------------------

Apocalypse of the Damned
-------------
Standing in a pool of your own blood,
You fall to your knees, tears flowing freely downward.
You curse the heavens for the pain you have suffered,
And you curse the heavens for the pain you have given.

You feel the heat rising about you,
and seeing your arm lying next to you, you feel hunger.
You lower your head, licking up the life
As your own leaves you.

You look around this barren wasteland,
And wonder what hellish fate has brought this to you.
The bodies of the damned lie around you,
Decaying skeletons crawling around, seeking flesh.
You gnaw on your own severed appendage,
Gulping down the meat as if it were only fruit
of your desperate attempts at life.

Flames rise around your sun-scorched flesh,
Flickering in the dark, while you scream.
Eating cooked skin with no remorse.
Darkness shrouds your eyes as you fall motionless
Into the cold silence of death.
----------------------------------------------------------

Lunar Rainbow
---------------------
Beneath the ebony hues of the midnight palette,
The multi-color beams of the lunar rainbow emerge.
Wrapped in the soft glow of the moon’s gentle rays,
The refracted light shimmers on the face of the stars.

A gentle loop from the sky to the earth and back again,
The rainbow hues emit a tender shine on the meadow’s grass.
The golden stream of light from stars above
slides down on the smooth stream of color.

Back on the terra, you gaze up at the wondrous sight,
and a tear flows down slowly, reflecting the lunar miracle.
A shine of gold glows around the crystalline rainbow,
and dances through your hair in the midsummer breeze.

Once you have blinked, the rainbow disappears,
and you wake up in the cool crisp sheets of your own bed.
You look up in your window and realize that the jewel hanging there
refracted the rainbow unto your sleeping eyes,
And sent you dreaming upon the star fields of heaven.

With a sigh, you drop back onto the pillow,
and dance among that rainbow once more.
-----------------------------------------------------

Without A Trace
----------------------
Without a trace, the tiger disappears off the face of the earth,
No paw prints left behind on tell-tale paths through the trees.
No signs of a single tooth or claw,
No flashy stripes or orange pelts.

There is no descendant of Mohan the white,
Of the majestic cats that were once the kings.
Many snows may fall onto the mountain peaks,
But they will not come back, they will not return.

Even the trophies that poachers so cherished
Have disappeared from the death-ridden walls.
The empty carcasses of both predator and prey
Dissolved into rich and fertile soils.

Where did the giant felines go to?
Why have they forsaken their birth world?
Man is the problem, but is there a solution?
Only time can tell, but it is time we don’t have
-------------------------------------------------------

War of the Trees
----------------------
If the trees had voices that we understood,
No woodcutter would ever set foot in the woods.
For the trees would be yelling for their pain to stop,
That their brothers were dying, and they’d had enough.

Their branches would shake with an anger unheard,
And you would hear the accusing calls of birds.
For the forest could wake, and answer to fight,
Our weapons are deadly, but the trees are ancient might.

They would unroot themselves and go on to our towns,
Make us feel what its like when your own is cut down.
Like the Ents, they would rise, throwing ashes and stone,
They would make clear that humans cannot rule, alone.
With their gnarled brown hands, and their age most elite,
They would strangle our race into prostrate defeat.

But the trees, they are peaceful, and suffer their pain,
but its all for the pleasure of our human race.
If we just need more paper, why dont we recycle?
Instead of disturbing Mother Nature’s cycle.

Even the humans who fight this, like me,
are only small bread crumbs afloat in a sea.
If we all join together, and set our voices alight,
Then maybe…just maybe..things will turn out alright..
------------------------------------------------------------------

In the End
------------------
Coughs shatter my fragile bones
As the light dims in my eyes
Lying weakened in the ruins
Of what was once my home

Before my fading sight
I see fire and ash
Engulfing the world
And the rotting residue
Of the nuclear waste

I don’t know who lives
But I know most have died
In this scorching hell
But the inferno has risen
And the human race has fallen

My last breaths escape
From a throat burnt with smog
And the blackness takes me
As I journey beyond time
And past the edge of space

Everything is blank
There is no life in the void
We realize once we’ve lost it
We miss what we destroyed
---------------------------------------

Dragons!
-------------
Dragons!
Twirling through the skies in iridescent colors
Swirling the clouds into downward spirals,
their spiked tails slicing into the heavens
as they barrel-roll into the darkened storms
Of the sky’s blazing dance of fire and water

Columns of smoke rising
from downward cyclones of spiraling jaws
ripping through the fabric into space
Snap!
Wings opening, leveling the flight
as they glide over the mountain-tops
and skim through the ocean’s waters.

Fire!
Blasting from their mighty jaws
running over forests
and setting the earth ablaze

Blood!
as they dive, ripping into their prey
the hunt driving them to madness
As talons rip into the living flesh
of an unfortunate meal

Peace…
as the dragons return to their cave
Their hatchlings warbling for food
A sentry set to guard the Lairs
but their Death…
lays at the hands of reality…
--------------------------------------

Dance of Death
--------------------
Murien was an elven maid,
her hair of gold, her skin unscathed.
She danced upon the hemlock white,
Into the darkness of the night.

She had upon her brow, a star,
which shone with neverending light.
A light, which blazed anear and far,
A guiding path within the night.

Her eyes, of green, they shimmered brightly,
casting stars about her face.
Her dress, so pale, it rustled lightly,
with her footsteps’ constant pace.

Her ringlets gold did wave intensely,
as her dance grew more in speed.
The urgency increased immensely,
with most sincere and dire need.

She falls, rubato, wet and weary,
motionless and out of breath.
Fair Murien, she hath completed,
the cold, immortal dance of death.
---------------------------------------------------

Cycle of Life In the Jungle
-----------------------------
A tiny ant nibbling
on a eucalyptus leaf,
who was eaten by the tapir,
who was ground up by the teeth
Of the jaguar who was spotted,
and murdered by the gun,
Of the man who died of heat-stroke,
in the hot equator sun.
----------------------------------------------------------

The Elements(haikus)
---------------------
Flowing waves of foam,
Drifting on the sandy shore
The unresting sea

Rustling plains of grass
Hear the wind call your name
Earth-child is come

Drifting white snowflakes
Floating on the winter bed
A frozen glory

Hot spiraling flames
Erupt in an inferno
ashes to ashes

Powerful Cyclone
Tearing and ripping the land
A maelstrom of death
-------------------------------------------

The Valley of Eternal Life
---------------------------
Slowly trickling, the evaporating pools of life
The last thin streams of life as the river dries.
The more you try to keep in your cupped hands,
The more life trickles from in between your fingers.

Drinking from the last dregs,
As old age creeps up like a wayward shadow
And shuts the light from your eyes.
Or for the more unfortunate ones,
Their pools suffer from sudden drought,
and the flow stops prematurely.

Even when the river runs dry,
They all cascade into an evergreen valley
Where the thundering falls never cease,
And the rivers run forever cool,
In the Valley of Eternal Life.
------------------------------------------------------

Ramune
---------------
There once was a man from Pompei
who drank nothing but ramune
The bottles stacked up a mile
and that man, meanwhile
was chugging another away.
------------------------------------------

Ashes
------------
My wings burn
the ashes I breathe
A brief freedom
is over
--------------------------------------

Earth's Bounty
-------------------
The rainbow of earth’s bounty
grows wild at my feet
Surrounding my every footstep
And blinding my eyes in color

Oh what a wondrous sight!
The stems of green
shaded by every known hue
standing tall and proud

Her many-colored Garden of Life.
--------------------------------------------

Pouring Rain
----------------
Pouring rain
in a melancholy night
Began to melt
into the brown dirt
As day broke
in a white flame sun
-------------------------------------------------

Bovine
------------
In fields of green grass
Bovine pleasures do come true
under the warm sun
--------------------------------------------------

Thylacine--Tasmanian King
-----------------------------
The great thylacine
Mighty Tasmanian king.
Is he truly gone?
--------------------------------------------

Snow
------------
A single flake from skyward falls,
a pallid speck alone.
When the snow in torrents falls,
the earth’s its icy throne.

It lingers short on brow and lash,
‘till water it becomes.
It causes skin be red and rash,
its frigidness may numb.

It blankets white the frozen earth,
It brushes pale the trees.
It covers not the homely hearth,
where fire warms its eaves.

It dusts our porches ivory,
and covers deep our yards.
Icicles shatter, glittering,
and burst in shining shards.
-----------------------------------------

The Lion and His Lioness(haikus)
-------------------------------------
Proclaiming his reign,
The mighty lion roars
Across the prideland.

His lioness hunts
the unwary gazelle herd
Slinking and sneaking.

Grazing on the plains
The gazelles are unaware
Of the coming doom.

Striking hard and fast
The lioness breaks cover
Running down her prey.

A small gazelle calf
Falls victim to the huntress
The lion’s next meal

The huntress returns
Carrying her prize proudly
Their dinner is served.

The King eats his fill
and leaves the rest of the meal
To his hungry pride.
----------------------------------------------------------------

A Change of Seasons
------------------------
Summertime slowly turning into fall
The hot days becoming cool
And the thick green leaves changing hue
As the paletted autumn days draw near.

The days are growing shorter
And the air is turning brisk
All the trees are changing color
Their leaves are slowly floating
Downward

Spiraling cyclones of red, orange, and brown
dancing among the branches
And skating across the ground
The end until spring comes again

The daffodils close their vibrant petals
And recede into the soil
Plotting their grand return next year
When the spring comes again

The birds sense the changes
And take a last look at home
Flying southward for miles
To vacation for the winter
-----------------------------------------------------------

Hurricane
--------------
Before the storm
Placid sheets of sparkling crystals
Are the ocean
Shimmering in the sunlight

The clouds roll in
The wind picks up, disturbing the still
watertop
And forming flowing ripples

Growing to a gale
Magnificent white surf crashing
all around
Sending a great roaring in the air

Frightening torrents
Of rain thundering down in gallons
Rising water
A wave of titanic proportions materializes.
------------------------------------------------------------

Remnants of a Nation
---------------------------
Flaming remnants of a nation
Torn apart by devastation
Smoldering pieces of Constitution
Founded by a Revolution

Embers spread like blazing lies
and searing, tear the naive eyes
Of people ruined by hate and worn
By so much that we cruelly scorned

Liberty divided by a line
Invisible it is so fine
Our stubborn pupils will not see
What seperates us from the free

Officials hold our puppet strings
and pinion back our flapping wings
that try their hardest to break loose
From the ever-tightening noose

Our foolish hearts we may detest
Which beat against our stubborn chests
That hold to themselves arrogant pride
Which forces passive faces to snide

We turn our eyes from crime and pain
And harden our hearts to what others sustain
Our chests grow heavy, filled with stone,
A reminder of what we let alone.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Rocky Mountain home
-------------------------------
The mountains blue in the distance
Fields and plains surrounding me
Tall, dry grasses and tiny prickly cacti
Indian paintbrushes and their nectar
in the hot summer days.

Nightfall, and the stars come out
The Milky Way visible in the skies
And the coyote howls pierce the silence
The crickets keeping a steady metronome
In the Colorado countryside.

A visit to the Rockies
Bighorn sheep sparring in Estes Park
The clash of their horns echoing
Over the snowy hills and frozen lakes
Ten thousand feet in the air.

The tranquil forests down lower
Deer and puma roaming free
Rattlesnakes hissing beside the trails
And a bald eagle calling in the sky
Above the rocky path.
In the Rocky Mountains.
---------------------------------------------------

Dragon Fable
-------------------
The Dragon Lord across the moor
Shall not be airborne anymore.
For years ago, his wings were torn,
By a dragon slayer’s thorn.

Five scores ago, he served the throne,
The king, he trusted him alone.
But treachery with rumor spread,
And forced thus, the dragon fled.

A fortune of gold was offered for,
The dragon’s skull, to settle score.
But clever was the dragon lord,
And carefully, he chose his fort.

But a slayer found the dragons lair,
And enter it, the slayer dared.
Thus, there was a mighty fight,
that lasted into deepest night.

When morning broke, the sun revealed,
That with the fight, the slayer was killed.
But as the dragon left his cave,
his predicament became quite grave.

He may have won, to end the war,
For slayers trouble nevermore,
Yet the dragon’s wings in fight were torn,
and the loss of flight the dragon mourned.

Begrounded in his darkened cave,
the dragon’s home shall be his grave.
For without his wings, he cannot eat,
And suffers he a slow defeat.

His bones, they will be someday found,
in layers underneath the ground.
And finally we will be able,
To prove the truth of dragon fable.

Until that time he does survive,
In dragon tales, he is alive.
And the faith of dragonkind does rest,
On every dragon legend text.

My, you can really put a lot down! I can only write like one poem a month before my fountain of ideas begins to trickle again.

WOW
Did you save all of those for now or something?
Great ideas, but you need more ways of making them string together.
