I find a lot of people, even on this guild, getting their 'it's' and 'its' mixed up.

The apostrophe is not used in ownership within the word 'its'.
Only as an abbreviation of It Is.

Give the dog its ball back.

It's over there.

Just to clear things up a little for those that didn't know.

Put simply, the ONLY time the word "it's" with an apostrophe is used is when it is a contraction of "it" and "is."

Yes, I know. This is to get it to the top and let other people know sweatdrop Honestly, I don't really pick on the little words if it's a simple mistake, but the word "its" needs its apostrophe if it's a contraction of "it is." Otherwise, it's wrong.

This one is almost as bad as people screwing up there, their, and they're. Also, it's very irritating when people mix up your and you're. >_<

I upgraded my English 30 mark last year to increase my chances of getting into college, and the teacher STILL had go over this stuff for some people after we had written a few essays. One mistake that was surprising (because I have known for YEARS how to write it correctly) was that people ACTUALLY write could've as could of. YIKES!

Some people even mix up to, two and too. Or by, bye and buy... sometimes people are in a rush and don't recognize these things... honestly, there have been so many times I have handed in a history paper with so many horrible mistakes, a second grader could point out... I think we all do it at what point... lol

The first two posts basically said the same thing the original post said.
Way to be redundant.

I don't get "its" and "it's" confused... it's always "your" and "you're" that I mix up.
