i felt really stupid, because i have this book of random facts that i've read through twice, but i've missed that one section on how bands got their names. (no lie. i had read everything but that one. really, i'm pretty clueless, i think)

and it said that at one of their early shows, they asked the band what they should name themselves. some guy yelled out "fallout boy!" and they liked it, so they used it. they later found out that it was a character on the simpsons, thought the name had already existed, and were afraid they were going to get sued for it, but matt groening thought that fall out boy had already existed when he came up with the character, and was afraid fob was going to sue.

so neither of them ever sued.
