Valentine's, Shmalentine's.

i hate valentines because i'm obligated to get certain people gifts. and this year, the horticulture dept. is selling roses which will be delivered to the people tomorrow if my school isn't snowed out. since i was the only person from my class in my lunch shift, i had to spend all lunch taking money orders. i was supposed to do it again today, but school closed early due to snow. i hate selling roses. what's even worse is that i'm one of the people who has to de-thorn the roses and deliver them. i like my class, no doubt, but i hate this time of year.

I think modern Valentine's day is pretty much a mockery of St. Valentine.
In anicent rome, there was a festival in mid-Febuary which invovled young people pairing off by lottery. Pretty much a dating service.
The only reason we know about Saint Valentine today is because he thought this was a stupid idea.
But then again, we celebrate Guy Fawkes day by burning him in effigy. I gues it's the same concept.

I'm not even Christian, I just like religons.

I hate Valentine's day. This is yet another day of commercialism. And if you have not yet recovered from Christmas; tough luck. Those who know you are going to be hurt if you don't get them something "appropriate" to how they think you feel about them. There have been too many times when I have been out of funds and lost a "friend" because I didn't get them something for Valentine's day.

The only way I have been able to combat this, is to buy valentine's gifts at Christmas time. This allows you to take advantage of all those wonderful sales; but there is the risk that they will buy what you got them.

I find that I spend Valentines Day alone...

I really don't think it needs to be like it is, it is just a huge comercial holiday, a way to drain people's money.... None-the-less, if I did share it with some-one, I would get them something, but something small and very meaningful
