How do you make your own townies, NPCs, etc?

I know there must be a way.

Plus, I have a mac, so if any of you know how, I'd be so happy if you could tell me.

There isn't an in-game way to do this. In fact, there's no EA/Maxis supported way to do it at all. You can download a pack to replace the default faces over at modthesims2.com if you want. Otherwise, you'll need SimPE (a usermade editor). The way it works with SimPE is that you basically build a sim like you want it to look and package it to a file (in Bodyshop). Then you go into SimPE, pick a pre-existing Townie/NPC and use the Sim Surgery plugin to replace the Maxis Townie's looks with the looks of the sim you saved. I believe you can change their names and such in there too, but it's not something I miss with really. You would have to check the SimPE forums for more information.
