Self-teaching Japanese. So far I can only form simple sentences.
Watakushi no namae wa Mush o desu. [Anata wa] hentai desu. [Anata wa] Nihonjin desu ka.
I was trying to master grammar before moving onto vocabulary but got bored.

I was trying to master grammar before moving onto vocabulary but got bored. Oh, I'm the same way. But I'm taking French at my school and I enjoy it. heart I'd like to learn five languages, so... I know ASL (american sign language), English and I'm a fourth year in French, and I'm learning Japanese. Now I just have to learn another language. 3nodding

I speak Pig Latin, I learned that in second grade, Bub-A-Cuk, a made up language that my second/third grade teacher made up, which, amazingly enough, I can still speak fluently. I can spell out everything in ASL, and I remember a few words/phrases. I know a little bit of French, Spanish, Japanese, and I've dabbled a bit in German. I'm currently learning Mandarin Chinese. Which means I can read Cantonese, and Japanese newspapers. I can say one sentence in Swedish: [and I have no clue how to spell it] Weit de buksana? Which translated into English means 'Did you poop your pants?" Which isn't very helpful...I want to learn Italian, more Swedish, and more of most other languages.

I go to a bilingual school; I speak Mandarin, but English is my native language.
But unfortunately, my classmates and I aren't living up to the school's multi-cultural, high-tolerance reputation: one of our favorite pastimes is to mock our Chinese teachers' accents.

Dameon_Patron_of_Healing I know Spanish thanks to school and living in a heavily populated Hispanic area. I also am trying to learn a bit of Japanese through subbed anime and intense practice. Learning Japanese through subbed anime is almost impossible. You might pick up a couple of words but that is about it. The only way it would help is if you replay certain parts of an episode over and over. Also, you need to know that the subs can be quite different than what is actually said to make it understandable in other languages. I know French from high school, but it isn't all that great since it has been a couple years since I've been in it. I'm also slowly learning Japanese using Rosetta Stone.

It's slow but it's going.

Well. I'm catalan, so I speak Catalan and Spanish (we're all bilingues here). I studied French at school (and living very near to France, I travelled many times there; so my French is ok). I studied Esperanto too, but I forgot all about it. I learned Italian, because I was studying music and wanted to understand what I singed. And lately, I learned English by reading some books and reading in Internet. I know that I don't speak English very well, but I think I can be understood. And all corrections will be welcome wink

I can speak German well, though I am out of practice at the moment. I took three years in high school and spent three years in Germany when I was in the army. I ended up fairly fluent in the language, even to the point of actually dreaming in German.
I am currently living in Spain, and am picking up Spanish, though I did know some Spanish words and phrases from growing up in California.

At my school, you're forced to take Spanish until the eighth grade. And then you go to a new school! Haha. So guess you could say I know some Spanish. I would love to learn Italian, German or Japanese. Maybe I'll pick up a bit of German when I go to Germany this summer.
