On this day, back in 1915, the British sent the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp to Galipoli. Their aim was to storm the beaches and eventually go through Turkey, to start another front in World War 1. The only problem was the high rises in land gave the Turks the best defensive point. Though the mission was a failure, the actions of the ANZACs pretty much gave birth to a national spirit and ethic that still exist today. From the never-say-die attitude, to mateship, to the story of Sampson and his donkey helping get the wounded to treatment, it was one of those times that define a nation. So each year, Australia and New Zealand remember those who fought and gave their lives in that battle, and any other wars Australia and New Zealand, whether as the ANZACs or individual forces, By attending dawn services around both nations, as well as at ANZAC cove in Turkey, which has become somewhat of a pilgramage for young Australians and New Zealanders, and also lining the roads for the ANZAC Day Parade, honoring those which had returned, though their numbers are dwindling as age catches up with them and rejoins them with their mates, fallen so many years ago.
They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them

Lest we forget
