What a great article! I agree 100% with it. I rely heavily upon text messaging as a way to communicate, but I always spell out my words. I do however, take some shortcuts such as leaving out unnecessary words.

The Irish are deadly serious about the issue of the text-talk scourge, and here we are, for the stupid masses, they make text-talking a speed contest and uphold it like some godly value! Ugh!

They say its a threat only to traditional conventions of writing, but not to communication and understanding. C'mon, the English writing system needs a tune up. Abandon the clunky ways of old, and embrace a faster, more phonetic, more logical in every way of writing.
