Don't you just hate it...

When you start a picture but suddenly loose interest in it halfway through? I know I can't be the only artist sitting on mounds of half done pieces. Nothing drives me nuts more than when I have a piece I am really begining to like, but I suddenly loose interest in halfway through. My current problem child would be-



I realized despite being called The Mantis Queen, I lack any drawings of myself as a mantis with a crown. Add to the fact I really wanted a new icon for FA and this piece was born. I loved the lineart art and all, but halfway through coloring and I've lost all desire to finish it. I blame it on my lazy nature.

So the question of the day, what do you guys do when you need to inspire yourself to finish something? Also feel free to post a few of your unfinished pieces that just don't seem to want to be completed. XD

So the only problem is apathy toards finishing its shading? It looks rather nice as-is anyway.

It's adorable! And so well-suited to you! I think Chupi's right, all you really have to do is finish the shading.

But yea...I have a bunch of half-colored pieces just sitting around my compy....I don't ever bother uploading them, though, so I can't really show you either. sweatdrop

Red XIII anthro-fied!!! ^_^ Pity it's not finished. My problem is I get a really neat idea and my fingers are itching to draw it but I never get around to it.

Drawing only happens when I feel like it. It's a frustrating process. You have the picture in your head, but then it doesn't come out right, so you try it again and by that time the picture has changed and it's just.....rrrgh.

I only draw for myself, and sometimes for others, if I feel like it. I have to have time to do it, and I have to be bored. o.o

I found some of my old drawings and was like "Dude, this is s**t! I can do way better than this now!", and I realized I've gotten way better at it. It made me happy. I might draw tomorrow.

......in short, I'm just babbling.

Heh, yep! I always saw Red XIII as a lean, agile fighter, not all beefed out like you usually see him. I'll probably finish him eventually...>_>

Anyway, though, I know full well what you mean with that. Hell, that's how it usually works with me, both my art and my writing X_X

Thanks, and yah all I had left was the shading and lighting effects, but those can take me a long while to do, so it felt like a lot. I finally did finish it though.

Perhaps it wasn't the best of examples because I have tons of other pieces far lest finished than that one was that will probably sit on to never get finished. Just a thread to kind of post some of those pictures you never posted because you never finished and talk about trying to get re-motivated.


Kaky- I hear you. I didn't even pick up a pencil for a little sketching for about three weeks after I finished school. Even now I am finding it hard to get back into the swing of things. I miss the old days when I used to doodle and create like crazy. School just burnt me out. XP

I've been burnt out for a long time. Lacking ideas, too many pieces I owe to others of which several are really picky and impatient, bummed lately, etc etc.

There's so many ideas I have in my head..I just can't seem to get them down. What really bothers me is when I actually do sit down to do something it feels like if I work for myself those people I owe stuff too will get mad because I'm not working on their piece. So now I have self guilt trip. I've already had one guy get on my case for how long it's taking..*sighs*

Then there's the pieces I get frusrated with and then end up not finishing them because I hate them.

Well, your coloring rocks.... I leave all my stuff at pencil.

Mostly, I leave my stuff half done cuz I think its ugly.... so I start on something new. But when I need some inspiration, I just bring up my i-Tunes and listen to my music.

That usually keeps me on track
