Ok So Since I heart you guys (and gals) so much I shall give you my latest and greatest pattern! Ok so it's my first ever pattern and I need someone to test it out. xd Keep in mind the example picture is of the unfinished cactus. I need something to weigh down the pot. xd If I knew where to host it I'd put up the pdf document and not just the text (if anyone can suggest a spot to do that I'd really appricate it). Well without further adue(sp?) here is the pattern! whee Enjoy! All I request is pictures of your completed projects. blaugh

Edit: Please let me know if you find any typos or flaws in the written pattern.

Yarn needle
Stuffing of your choice
Stitch marker (optional)
Cardboard circle (aprox. 2 &3/4 inch in diameter) (optional)
Rocks or marbles (recommended)

Abbreviations:
ch = chain sc = single crochet
sl = slip st = stitch
Rnd = round sc2tog = single crochet two together
dc = double crochet

Change to dirt colored yarn.
Rnd 20: 2 sc in every st in round. (36 )
Rnd 21: *2 sc in 1st st, sc next 2 st* repeat from * to* 6 times. (42 )
Fasten off, leaving a very long tail to sew up through center of cactus. Moderately stuff cactus, keep in mind that you want it to be able to stay semi-flat. Sew tail of yarn back and forth through center of cactus to help it stay in the semi-flat state of a Prickly Pear.

2nd Cactus
Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 6 into 2nd chain from hook. (6 )
Rnd 2: 2 sc into each st in round. (12 )
Rnd 3: *2 sc into 1st st, sc in next st* repeat from * to* 6 times. (18 )
Rnd 4: *2 sc into 1st st, sc in next 2 st* repeat from * to* 6 times. (24 )
Rnd 5: sc each st in round. (24 )
Rnd 6: *2 sc into 1st st, sc in next 3 st* repeat from * to* 6 times. (30 )
Rnd 7-9: sc every st in round. (30 )
Rnd 10: *sc2tog, sc next 3 st* repeat from * to* 6 times. (24 )
Rnd 11: *sc2tog, sc next 2 st* repeat from * to* 6 times. (18 )
Rnd 12: *sc2tog, sc next st* repeat from * to * 6 times. (12 )
Rnd 13-14: sc every st in round. (12 )
Fasten off leaving a tail long enough to sew up the center (just like the other one) and attach to main cactus.

Flower
Ch 5, join ends with a sl st to make a ring.
ch 3, work 1 sc through ring, repeat process 4 times to total 5 petals.
dc through one petal 4 times, sc between petals. Repeat process in each petal.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing to bud.

Bud
Ch 4, join ends with a sl st to make a ring.
Rnd 1: sc 4 times through ring. (4 )
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st. (8 )
Rnd 2: *2 sc in 1st st, sc in next st* repeat from * to * 4 times. (12 )
Rnd 4-7 sc every st in round. (12 )
Fasten off, leaving long tail. Weave tail to base of bud to use in attaching to cactus later. Sew flower to open end of bud. Sew bud and flower to cactus.

Pot
Rnd 1: Ch 2 and work 6 sc into 2nd ch from hook. (6 )
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around. (12 )
Rnd 3: *2 sc in 1st st, sc in next st*, repeat from * to * 6 times. (18 )
Rnd 4: * 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 2 st*, repeat from * to * 6 times. (24 )
Rnd 5: *2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 3 st*, repeat from * to * 6 times. (30 )
Rnd 6: *2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 4 st*, repeat from * to * 6 times. (36 )
Rnd 7: *2 sc in 1st st, sc next 5 st* repeat from * to * 6 times. (42 )
Rnd 8: *sc2tog 1st st, sc next 5 st*, repeat from * to * 6 times. (36 )
Rnd 9: Work 1 sc in each st around. (36 )
Rnd 10: *2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 4 st*, repeat from * to * 6 times. (42 )
Rnd 11-21: Work 1 sc in each st around. (42 )
Bind off; leave about 12 to 13 inches of string for sewing the dirt & cactus to the pot. About 4 rows down fold over the edge of the pot al the way around, to create the rim. Sew cactus to pot in the 6th row from rim, once you get down to about 1 to 2 inches left to sew, stuff your pot with your choice of filling and rocks/marbles (if you chose to add them) remember to stuff the pot firmly for stability. Once finished sewing push the rim up so that it's not just a flat bit of fabric against the side of the pot.

Creators notes:
If you have any problems with this pattern please feel free to contact me at Porcelain.Dragon@yahoo.com with your question(s). I found that my cactus fell over without any weight in the bottom of the pot, so adding marbles or rocks or whatever else you may have on hand is highly recommended.

That is cute, I can just imagine it in color. A few years ago my daughter and I went to visit my mom in Arizona and the day before we left we got to see flowers in the desert.
I'd love to test your pattern for you, but my yarn is still in boxes because we haven't moved YET.
Would Deviant Art let you upload pdf files? I know they let people upload lzh files because I've downloaded some great KiSS dolls there.

I'll have to look into deviant art and see if they host pdf files. Thanks for the tip. biggrin

May I ask, was the patteren at least understandable just reading through it?

It looks understandable to me. I can't wait to get moved so I can get out my yarn and test this. There's another cactus in the textiles and crafts forum too. it's not as detailed as yours though.

ForestGreen, thank you for the heads up on the other cactus in the T&C forum. biggrin I made a cactus like that too, but it's not my pattern. xd

Anywho, w00t new pictue. biggrin I finally finished my prickly pear. I used some dried pinto beans for weight. It worked out nicely. >_> also found ot the hard way Bic pemanent(sp?) markers suck for use of fabric.
