I didn't realise we were uniting against chavs, preps and other "normals".

Yeah, serioulsy, it's not like we're aliens against each other, we're all human here people, I mean, can't people just forget the meaning of some of these labels, just for a minute and life life as being themeselves? It just brings more drama to people to argue about this kind of stuff, you know?

Eh.. the problem with that is, over in England, there is a particularly violent, and unpleasant subculture (chavs) mentioned by Rellik earlier.

They have no real self confidence in themselves because of Britian's particular social order, they're usually working class and in Britain's history, the working class has usually been thought of as stupid, idle and useless. Due to this stereotyping, some react in the way of not applying at achool, thus ensuring thier inability to achive a good job and get out of their typical situation (social housing, living off benefits), and then react to any any all members of society they feel threatened by (older people, the middle classes, and the usually misunderstood black clad masses eg. goths and metallers etc).

And usually, they react violently. But only when they think they can win: superior numbers, I stab you with my knive cuz I'm so cool. manyatime I've been harrassed for no reason, simply because I wear black. I am polite, I am courteous, I held a door open for a group of chavs because I am so, and I got spat in my face for it. These people have no concept of manners or decency. Who else would moon a 70 year old woman out of a bus window? Who else would stub a ciggarette out on a 12 year old? *which happened to a friend of mine in school*

Its all well and good saying that "oh, we should all just get along with each other" but in reality, some people just don't want to get along with others because they think that being impolite and rude is a way to up your street cred, get a reputation as being a 'gansta' and thus get some self esteem finally.

So the other day I'm in town, its a nice windswept rainy day, heralding the return of summer to england. When this guy dressed as the typical 'goff' shoulder barges me without so much as a word of apology, now normally I'd expect that off a chav, but not from someone whose part of a fellow sub-culture. So that night, I'm out with my missus and a few old friends, were drinking having laughs, winding up bar wenches, watching tiger porn (don't ask) and laughing and jeering at all the emo's. When that goff guy reappears, talking to his friends about how he gave it to a big bad metal-head.

So naturally I walk over to him, he turns around, see's me and practically wets himself, until his mates get up and start baring down on me, I eye them one by one (theres about 6 of them) and then they start this big thing about how metal fans are scum and lower then emo... at which point their tirade didn't get far as I head butted the one in front of me.

The point of this is, when did alt. cultures get so aggressive against each other? Last time I checked they were meant to be united against chav (or 'prep') and emo... so did I miss a memo or something, or is this just another example of the increasing elitism in people new to the culture?

Y'know, headbutting isn't cool. It kills braincells, and lord knows you need to keep all that you can get, I mean c'mon, the must be dying of loneliness Rellik! xd

As for the goffs, goddamn things're takin over my city stare Take it with a pinch of salt hun, soon as the teen years are over they'll be dead from overdoses or stacking shelves in Woolworths. Oh, wait, that's exactly what they're doing now... where was my point again?

Its the newbies hun, they think they're all that cuz they're pissing off their parents by being oh-so original and getting a few piercings and wearing black clothes. Take a few laughs at them while they're funny; you'll kill thier spirit eventually.

Well, personally, I would have given them a verbal berating, rather than resorting to physical violence.... Normally my verbal attacks are enough to either make them punch me, so I can file a law suit, make their ears bleed, or make them go away, brain about to explode... (I use too many fancy words for some people.)

I really don't enjoy people who are stereotypical about goth, and I hate it more when goths are stereotypical about goth. I also find these people to be morons who need a good verbal berating, or, if that doesn't work, a good steel-tipped kick in the nads.

Anyway, it probably goes back to elitism and/or irrational fear of others. As humans continue to divide themselves into groups, it will usually bring diversity or paranoia, which hopefully fades into acceptance.
Personally, I think there just shouldn't be any irrational hatred of other groups anyway (yes, even including wiggers... U.S. for chavs. Why pick on emos, for that matter?).

For the most part your right, but there will always be irrational hatred thats human nature, kill, eat, make babies.

As for picking on emo's, well they bring it on themselves, not all of them, just most of them.

I never said all of them do, the ones I'm talking about are the ones who take the associated lifestyle and stereotypes involved to the extreme, I'd say the same thing about people that take any life style, be it, emo, goth and yes even metal to the extreme.

Some of my very good friends are emo and they agree whole heartedly with me.

Emo's aren't part of any sub-culture as they are mainstream.

Also not against gangsta's, as rap and heavy metal are entwined with each other, one can not exist without the other.
