(This is maybe an necro on this thread, if it is, I apologize)
Just about every book by Terry Pratchet is amazing. All are extremely funny at point or another in the book (maybe just the whole darn book). The only problem I have with his books is that they can be confusing at times if not read carefully.
I did enjoy the Harry Potter series along with Eragon and its kin. I found The Lord of the Rings abysmal after Gandalf died (I haven't wanted to read the rest since, and yes, I know what happens after).
