.....well...here is the first post...

Quote:
....I believe this new tax to stop the inflation will increase it rather than decrease it.....this is why:

....Many more people will just increase their prices to compensate for the price increase, which, although will decrease some from raising the prices, will make other sellers do the same thing in order to make any sort of profit....anyone who is actually not increasing their prices will instead sell mainly in the forums through trade, in which they will be making the same amount as they are now (with the current inflation) because there will be no tax on trade....and these people will be able to make these overpriced deals since it will be significantly cheaper than those of the marketplace with the new tax....

rather than tax the seller, I believe you should tax the buyers instead, this way its like a real tax.......this will make people want to lower prices in the market place so the buying tax isn't so bad so they will be able buy cheaper and sell cheaper, but still make a profit.....(especially on super-expensive items like coco).....

...and since the tax wouldn't affect the seller directly, they won't want to put higher prices, since their stuff won't sell as easily, especially with the tax on buyers forcing them to buy cheaper stuff......and the sellers wouldn't be able to make price increases based off of how much they are taxed, since they would be taxed on what they buy, rather than what they sell......

...this will also affect the trade forums, since everything in the marketplace would be forced to be cheaper, those using trade will have to make cheaper deals in order to charm those who go to the marketplace often.....

.....could you tell me what you think of this idea?......as well as ask other members of the Gaia Online crew.....?

...thank you...

I agree with you whole-heartedly. The tax is a load of orc-s**t.

Yes, I just invented the phrase "orc-s**t" and used it in a sentence. Got a problem?

Aye, it is all a bit suspect really.

I do not follow some of this reasoning.

Why would switching the tax to the buyer "make people want to lower prices in the market place"? What makes you think people as a whole are going to want to decrease prices "so they will be able buy cheaper and sell cheaper"? Decreasing prices will decrease profits, so nobody is going to want to do it. The only reason anyone would lower prices is if they had to because of competition.

All this idea seems like is wishful thinking, without any solid basis. By the way,

In actuality, people selling goods in real life are taxed as well as the buyer. If you were trying to model real taxes, you would have to place fees on both sides.

I think it's assinine all ways around really. People are almost afraid to buy in the exchange because they may be banned if they happen to aquire botted gold in a trade, and now the marketplace is being driven to further inflation due to a tax...the world of gaia is slowly but steadily spirialling downward. It's... disheartening to say the least.

The ironic thing is, you currently have the most expensive item in gaia history.

I don't see the problem with it.
It happens in real life.

A simplified economy theory happens to describe this (market) situation well enough:

Quote:
When a new tax is imposed on a free system, the immediate effect is stagnation. The market slows, and products take more time to move. Initially prices increase due to the tax. Incidentally, this price increase almost always follows the initial stagnation as the mental effect of the new tax takes hold sooner than the economic impact.

After a period of time, the prices of products naturally drop as competition and stagnation force sellers to decrease prices to avoid loss. This causes hardship on sellers, forcing a portion to leave the market. Those that stay long enough find the decreased market causes less competition, allowing them to once again retain profits.

As time passes the psychological impacts of the tax are lessened by the desire for new goods, causing people to buy more. This, coinciding with a decreased market allows for the market to leave the stagnation and gradually become healthy once again.

That was a summary of a paper i wrote some time ago, and it did not mention quite a bit. One of the most important things to note is if the theory holds true, the new market will have fewer suppliers, which can possibly cause an unbalanced market (this effect is dependent on too many variables to predict in a simple manner).

I may need to get a hobby. Or a life.

this whole tax thing is going to screw everybody over, because this whole thing is so asinine and complicated, no one will want to use it, and the market will go to a standstill, rendering the tax useless.
as how i see it.

You may hate the new tax, but you're still going to pay it. Why? Because you're still going to have the same wants and desires you had before the tax was in place. The desire to re-do you avatar comes at a cost, and the gold to pay that cost is usually acquired through the marketplace.
So while you might be pissed off about having to pay the tax, you're still going to bend over and pay it because you have to in order to fulfill your desire.

Basically, you're complaining about the system, while still using it. This is commonly known as "Talking out of your a**."
Nothing's going to get done unless the mods are petitioned for a change. Even then, nothing will probably change, because Gaia mods seem to not really give a hoot about what its userbase wants. Welcome to politics.

I agree with bits and pieces of that.
Taxes are definitely not in gaia users best interest.
