I am not good at explaining, but I love semicolons. They're sort of like dividers in your sentence, but you have to have complete phrases which are related on each side.
Example:
Correct: Jim has my lunchbox; I have his. Incorrect: Jim has my lunchbox; I like peas. Incorrect: Jim has my lunchbox; because he didn't look carefully.
Someone correct me if this isn't right.

Someone correct me if this isn't right. I believe you are correct. Yes, both sides must be complete sentences, and they must pertain to each other, as in example one that you gave. What I forget is if the sentence that starts after the semi-colon is capitalized or not. Does anyone know?

I don't believe the sentence after the semi-colon is capitalized. I could be wrong, but I truly don't believe that it is.

Ah, thank you both! I've always been confused by that. I'm glad I finally have that answered! heart I suppose I could have looked it up myself, but I'm quite lazy when it comes to that sort of thing.
