Chozi laughed as he watched a seagull dive down in the water, trying to come close to a larger bird with a huge bill! (A pelican, of course). He was on a large rock that was just sitting at the water's edge, letting the waves crash into it and spray lightly speckled his body. "Silly!"
He called out, thinking of maybe going swimming. If a bird could do it (who shouldn't be in the water at all) so could he! Of course... momma had said to stay out of the water until he was older!

A green blur from afar, Njalo'Umdlalo bolted out from the forest's edge, where his den lay hidden.
"Water!" the large, fluffy cub shouted with glee as he ran toward the ocean. As Njalo reached the sand, however, it was clear that he hadn't been out this far from his den yet. Completely befuddled by the unusual texture of the ground, the green and charcoal furball momentarily lost his eagerness to get to the sea, and slid to to stop in the sand. He briefly pawed at the ground before he picked up his original train of thought, and as always when he thought something, he couldn't help but to voice it. "To the water," he called triamphantly across the beach that he thought was deserted. As Njalo raised his moss green eye's to look again at the tide, he noticed a lion sitting several paces away from the where the water was. The charcoal-bellied cub started to run again, this time making it to the shore. Njalo, after much frustration with the mushiness of the terrain plopped down where the water would just skim over his paws whenever a wave came. Njalo saw the two birds floating in the water, a pout overcoming his normally joyful face. Though he knew the other lion was now beside him, he had hardly looked at him, too distracted by the birds.
"Birds can seim now, can they? You know, I bet I could if I tried, but my Mommy won'y even let me go in the watering hole." The cub "hmphed" and bent down to lap up some sea-water, but spit it out almost immediately. He looked up at the other lion in embarrasment, and noticed that his company had a mostly white pelt with various red and black markings.
"'Ey, what's your name? Mine's Njalo, 'live just inside the forest over there," said the cub, nodding his head in the direction from which he came. He was still working on his speech, having been born not long ago. The pout once on the cub's the face had vanished, and his naturally curious and bright-eyed expression had returned.
(( Sorry for the late reply, I've been swamped with work. xP))

His eyes widened as he heard another youngster like himself and he twisted to watch. He started to giggle when he hit the sand and had to stop, that had been similar to Chozi's first experience with the substance as well!
Ah, they were very similar. "Yeah the birds swim sometimes. I don't understand it either and my momma won't let me go swimming either." His eyes widened as the other drank (or tried to drink) the sea water and he started giggling. "Wait! Don't, that water tastes so icky!" But it was too late, wasn't it?
Njalo! Nice and short with a good tune to go with it. "I'm Chozi, nice to meet you!"

Chozi. Nice name. "Pleasure," said Njalo, still trying to get the salty taste out of his mouth. He made a start towards the birds, who were only a few feet away, and managed to scare them off.
"If we aren't to swim, neither are they," the green-eyed cub said as the birds flew away. His eyes followed the birds for a few moments, but he quickly turned back to Chozi.
"So, Chozi, where you and family livin'?" Njalo knew his sentence was incorrect, but seeing as he had not a clue as to how he could fix it, he dismissed the thought with barely a second's hesitation. He lay down in the water to keep himself cool; the water may have stung to drink, but it was relaxing to the touch.

Chozi laughed and nodded. That was actually a good reason. Why should the birds have fun swimming if they could not? Njalo sure had a way of thinking! Chozi decided it was usually very easy to get along with many of the lions close to these parts.
"My family and I live here actually..." Ah that wasn't so correct. "What I mean is... our den is off that way.." He gestured with a paw. "But we're a part of this pride now!" He grinned. "An' what about you and yer family?"

"No, we en't part of the pride, an' some my family are thinkin' 'bout leavin'... but I like it here, so..." Njalo trailed off. The cub's green eyes had drifted to the ocean as he spoke, and he now redirected them back at Chozi.
"This's a very nice place, a good pride I'm sure." He smiled a big, toothy grin. The fluffy cub stood and padded the ground for a while before sitting back down, content with the solidity of the ground supporting him. He stared at Chozi for a moment, and then asked, somewhat gruffly, "So-er-how's ya family? They aroun' here, too" And even though Njalo knew the beach was empty, he turned his head to both sides slowly, as if scanning the surroundings for more life.

He shrugged sheepishly. "Dunno where they are.." He said honestly. "I don't really hang out with them that much and they all have their own spots, I guess." He gave the other a sheepish grin because he didn't know if this was normal or not for a family to do.
He looked around a little bit as the other did and then prodded him with a paw. "Wanna play a game with me?" He grinned.

Njalo turned back to Chozi and nodded-- from his experience, that was normal. Three of his siblings were particularly close, but all they did was talk of running away and starting a new pride, and Njalo liked the sea, so tended to avoid them if he could.
When Njalo heard the word "game," his face lit up. He loved games, and would like to do nothing more than play one at the moment. He grinned as wide as he could until he had to close his eyes and replied, "O' course!"
