Or better yet, what price would stop you from purchasing a military rifle you might like to have, yet know in your heart and head that it's not worth the asking price?

Today i walked into a gun shop and saw a very beat up M1 Carbine. No oil can/cleaning kit or strap. The stock looked as if it had been attacked with an ice pick. The metal was worn to a shine.

And this pecker wanted $975 for it!

Nearly a grand for an underpowered beat up Korean War era carbine in mediocre conditioning with a very limited ammo supply and even less useful life span as a functioning weapon.

So, what are you willing to pay for a pile of mismatched parts put together as a war surplus weapon?

Pile of mismatched parts?
Well, you'd have to account for demand.
If it's beat up...
That M1A1 as described I wouldn't have paid more than $150 for it. Depends how much a new stock would be, solid wood or the folding stock.

It's have to be a very rare carbine for that.

And never, ever call the M1 Carbine an underpowered weapon.

rofl WTF? That's insane!
Right before I left AZ, I found a Cobray m-11-9 for $1,100. It's a shame I didn't scoop that deal up...

The opinion of the effective value of the .30 carbine round is from someone I know whose opinion still guides my purchases today.

My late father, who carried one of those carbines for a week in Korea in '52 was alarmed at the lack of stopping power. He switched to an M1 Garand for the rest of his tour as soon as he could get one.

While he could carry more magazines and the carbine was lighter, the stopping power and distance achievable with the .30-06 made those advantages moot.

My dad was a control freak when it came to how he spent his rounds. And he'd rather have 8 rounds of '06 than 30 of the .30 carbine.

Your milage may vary, but keep in mind that not all combat situations warrant volume or power.

Back on topic, an incomplete gun that has been beaten half to death could be of some value to a poser collector who wants a conversation piece. But that collector is not me.

IMO,
M1A1 is a Carbine, not a rifle.

No smiley about it. Just don't be surprised if they thought about using .45 ACP.

If you are talking about a springfield M1A1 you are wrong that is a rifle. A M1 carbine and a M1A1 are completely different.

Note the folding wire stock. The M2 selectable fire model shipped in the last year of WWII and came in full wood or folding stock models.

The M2 didn't really see any action in the war.

And the M1a1 is a number of weapons.

The bottom gun is the M14, or it's civilian version, the M1A, not M1A1.

Look at this list, it shows the different M1A1s.
