High-Powered Pistols

What do you guys think of them?

Like, the Magnum Research BFR, the Magnum Research DE, the Smith and Wesson 460, and the Smith and Wesson 500?

Basically anything over .44 magnum applies.

The consensus here is that the big bore pistols are overkill for zombie mop up.

If you really need something bigger than .44 Magnum, you're in a different class of danger and would be far better served with a machine gun, shotgun, or other weapon capable of downing a large animal like a bear.

The issues of scarcity in important things like rare and hard to obtain ammunition would make large and odd caliber guns little better than clubs after an extended fight.

That, along with what most of those pistols do to your wrists and forearms, makes a large caliber pistol an unwise choice for survival in an uncertain world.

What about if you plan bugging out to the forest/wilderness, and want to still be able to take deer, fend from bears, and want a little extra food without the weight/bulk of a rifle?

The only survival rifle I've ever seen was a .22. Though If I was to hunt with something small, it'd probably be a sawed-off shotgun with slugs. If a 12 ga. can't take it, you'd better run.

And: "High-Powered Pistol Ammo" is much less bulky when compared to 12 gauge slugs.

Another thing to think about:

Take the S&W 460XVR.
It acceps .460, .454, and .45 LC, those extra two chambers, do what, double your chance of finding ammo?

It is also not nearly as versitile.

IMO I agree with Floyd

In a survival situation you would want a side arm of a decent caliber (9mm, 357, 45acp, 40s&w..etc) acompanied by a rifle of a decnt caliber to take down anything that may be problematic. (worst case senario, Bears)

Because of the need for lots of supplies in this senario, packing with buddies is highly recomended...

Well then, you should check out Magnum Research's website. They have a video of DEs blowing up pumpkins and random tropical fruit. They hit a coconut and the shrapnel blows up the melon next to it. xd
