Uumi was taking a (almost) well deserved rest. He had stayed with the cubs for a while but they were old enough to wander around the lands by themselves (even if they had when they weren't old enough) and he was feeling very tired. Looking after little ones was hard work, and he hated it. It was a bit easier when it was just one on one with his children.

His tail flicked as he lay on the dusty side of the river, watching it flow by. This had been his current 'spot', the place he went for peace. His ears flicked back and he sighed softly, rolling onto his back and staring at the wonderfully blue sky, his heart started to thud a little harder while he looked at it.

No clouds in sight; perfect.

The day was beautiful, the air was not too stuffy or hot, the sky overhead was clear, and a gentle breeze was loping across the lands. For the first time in a long time, Syeira felt like it was really home. She was still disgruntled with the loss of some of her family members, but she had come to realize that she had a lot more here than she had ever imagined. After spending time with her youngest granddaughter, Syeira realized that leaving would have made her lost to her eldest son's family. She didn't know if it could ever be like it was before, but at least this was the start of something.

As she sauntered along at the river's edge, her icy eyes swept over the landscape. Almost immediately, she picked out the deep red form lazing by the river, knowing her mate by sight. Of course, it helped that there were really no other completely red males in the pride. At least, none that were quite so thin and lanky.

"Hey," she said quietly as she made her way to flop down beside him, curling her body up close to his and nuzzling her face against his side. Sure, they might not spend as much time together as she would have liked given how busy she was, at least she tried to make the time they did have together count.

Uumi shifted a little but he did not flinch or move away like he'd used to do so long ago when the divine creature beside him used to settle down next to him. Instead his tail flicked, lightly and almost shyly brushing against her own.

He glanced over with a slow smile, masking how tired he was feeling. "Rare to see you around." He teased softly, pressing his body closer.

Syeira knew that the uncomfortable feeling that Uumi got around her was still there, though she was glad he had learned to hide it. He was not a lion used to a lot of affection, giving or receiving, and it was only recently that he seemed willing to show it to her without being prompted. Her tails curled slowly around his, her body leaning against him lightly.

"I know, I know," she said with a grin, flashing icy eyes up towards his face. She saw him in the den at night, and in the morning before they parted ways. "It's not my fault that we're both so busy all the time." She had a lot to do, talking to Taabu about Usare'Wasii business, checking up on her other siblings. Uumi had to do his Yaya business - but she wouldn't bring that up. He was so touchy on that subject.

Uumi grunted and let his gaze float back toward the sky. "It's too bad." He meant that they both had so much to do, he was so used to doing... next to nothing. They were both still young and he was finally accepting himself and his life (it had taken him long enough) he just thought maybe he could spend more time with Syeira, the love of his life. Though it was weird to think it all turned out like this...

He smiled faintly, thinking back toward the past. What little assholes they'd both been back then. "We should make more time for each other.." He said, trying not to make that sound like a command. "I... miss being around you, you know."

She nodded slowly at his words, thinking them over in her head. It really was too bad that the two of them never got to spend time with one another now, especially after they had finally seemed to sort out their very complicated lives. They were finally together and happy, finally a functional family, and now duty and responsibility was keeping the two of them apart. Not that she didn't want to make sure everything was running smoothly in the pride, but she certainly didn't want her relationship with her mate to suffer because of that.

"We should," she agreed quietly, adjusting herself to rub up against him more comfortably. It was nice being close to him and she enjoyed it, she just didn't get a chance to do it very often. "I know you do," she said, her words little more than a whisper, "I miss being around you too, Uumi." She didn't really know what else she could say. She missed him, it was the simple truth, and he wasn't the type to sit their and gush out his feelings any more than she was. "We just have to make time," she said with a nod, icy eyes turning up to stare into the opposite of her own.

He purred slightly, in that broken and careful manner, so he wouldn't have trouble breathing. He gazed back into her icey eyes with a slighty thirst for her and nuzzled his forehead against her own. With the cubs growing as fast as they were he'd have more free time soon enough, that way he could have some sort of relationship with Sye other than, I like you, you too, gotta run.

His tail flicked and brushed against her own before he shifted a little. "Would you like to go on a walk?" He asked her slowly, grinning.

Unlike Uumi, Syeira wasn't precisely pleased that her children were growing so fast. She always had children at home, children to make her smile, little cubs to take care of. Sure, Uumi spent a lot of time with them, perhaps more than she did, but it was a busy life. The thought of this last litter growing up and leaving her with her mate, as wonderful as he was these days, put a small frown upon her maw. Her maternal instincts were not done with her yet.

"I'd like that very much," she said with a smile, cuddling her form back against his affectionately before she pushed herself up to her paws - looking down at him as she waited for him to join her. Her tail flickered, brushing against his cheek with a playful smile. This was nice.

Uumi was seriously beginning to think this would be their last litter, so he was happy they'd soon have lives and probably families of their own. He should have realized by now that once begun with Syeira you were never really finished.

He slowly got to his paws, stretching his weary bones as he looked around. Where to walk to, that was the problem. Perhaps the forest, he rarely headed that way but very much enjoyed the cool air created by the trees towering over head.

So he started to walk in that direction, slowly and surely.

She knew that she wished for more cubs, at least one last litter. It had only recently entered her mind, and with the cubs still having a little while longer before they could begin growing independent of their mother, she didn't think she needed to talk about it too soon with Uumi. Of course, she would probably put off that talk as long as she could. Maybe she'd just get pregnant and birth them without saying a thing at all. What a surprise that would be. Of course, the thought put an amused little smirk on her maw.

"Are we going to the forest?" she asked softly, walking along at his side, pressing slightly against him - just enough that their fur brushed. Her bright eyes settled upon the forest ahead of them, examining the trees. She had heard rumors about all the things that went on in there, but rumors were all they were. They were good for keeping the cubs from going in there alone, but that was about it.

He glanced down to Syeira and nodded. "Yes, I thought it'd be a nice place to go. Haven't been there in a long time." He said in an off-paw kind of way. Actually, he didn't think he'd been in the forest since coming back into the Kusini lands.

His tail flicked lightly as they walked along, still he was unsure what to converse about. His life, he'd felt, had his a dead end. Perhaps it had hit the wall a long time ago and he was only realizing it now, but it had been a very boring life to lead so far.

She smiled serenely at him, her icy eyes drifting up to watch their opposites before she allowed them to settle once more on the forest before them. "Yes, it would be a nice place. I hear there's some sort of fire-fly haven inside," it was idle talk. She had heard someone say something about it once, but she wasn't sure where it was.

She needed something to fill the empty space in their conversation, because the long it went on, the loner it reminded her of the empty space in their relationship. Had her duties killed her love life? Had her responsibility pushed away her mate? She tried to juggle everything at once, gods know she did, but for some reason it all turned out botched in the end. Could the forever cool princess be getting in over her head? It was highly possible, she just didn't want to admit it. Not yet.

"A firefly haven?" He repeated, raising one eyebrow and wondering if Syeira was actually interested in that sort of thing. Uumi was not sure he cared about a bunch of bugs; he enjoyed the sky, it reminded him of his mate's stunning and often icy gaze, and he also enjoyed views from very high up. He was never afraid of heights, mostly due to living in the pridelands as a cub and always looking over the lands instead of playing and exploring them. He didn't get many chances to see such wonderful views, but he tried not to think about it that much. The kusini lands held their own sort of beauty, different from that of his cubhood but still beautiful and nice to look at. He much preferred scenery than he did watching any sort of animal, but he didn't comment further.

As his body slipped past the first few trees he instantly felt the air growing a bit cooler, as if the constant shade of the tall Kusini trees barred the warmth from entering. Well, it did not let the sunlight into the foliage almost every inch of the woods minus those rare spots so he supposed it made sense. His tail flicked slightly and as he walked beside Sye he felt himself shifting just a little closer to her, almost flirtatiously brushing against her as he pulled ahead to lead her in the direction he wanted to go. He didn't know many of the landmarks and he hadn't heard many pride lions speaking of it... since he wasn't very social.. so he might as well try and find a nice place himself. "So where is this firefly haven hiding?" He said, slight amusement hidden in his voice. He obviously did not believe of such a place in the woods, though Uumi was a sceptic.

Her thoughts melted away, letting all the troublesome worries that had been bothering her fade. The brush against her side, she knew, was about the closest thing Uumi got to flirting - he wasn't exactly a very touchy-feely lion, and she appreciated that small gesture. As he sped up to walk ahead of her, she let a small smirk spread across her maw, her paws letting her leap up at his side, though she let him lead where he wished.

"You know? I'm really not sure." She shrugged at the thought of the firefly haven, her eyes shifting around them. She didn't doubt her son's word, but she knew that Uumi was a skeptical soul. Why should they spend all day looking for something, especially if it might just simply make him sour in the end? No, she'd let him lead them wherever he really wanted to go - maybe they could find their own little secret haven. "Maybe you can find something we'd enjoy instead, hm?"

He wasn't even confident anything interesting was in the forest, just the large trees. He still wasn't even aware that wild dogs used to roam these very woods long ago, and they were the reason some of the Kusini members had began ghost stories and other nonsense, not that Uumi knew any of those either.

He glanced over his shoulder at his mate and for some reason was amused by her question, giving her a slight smile. "Oh, you don't enjoy wild goose chases?" He asked, one slim brow raising. But that was enough on the matter, he could feel a slight breeze and he grumbled slightly, looking forward again, unsure if he really liked how cold the forest felt after being in the blazing sun almost constantly.

Uumi was fine enough to enjoy the walk, it wasn't often that he got a lot of exorcize. He often used his poor breathing as an excuse, but mainly because he didn't see the point in traveling around all by himself. "Hear about any rabbit colonies in the woods, or perhaps a flock of birds specific to one area?" He said, his voice holding innocent tones. He wasn't teasing her about it, just the general idea. So what if fireflies lived in the woods, the lived in the grass too! Right? "Anyways... do you know much about the forest Syeira?" He wondered if she was holding out on him, she must know something about it. She grew up here, after all.
