Isithunzi ducked her head and squinted as she stepped into the sunlight outdoors. Today was Mawi's big day, she would get her drum and be out on her own for a little bit. Even if it was only a day or two that she'd be out, Isithunzi was still concerned. There were millions of things that could go wrong in the roguelands, but she didn't express any of these concerns. She hid them well, she didn't want Mawi to pick up on them and get nervous. She'd be fine.
She smiled and shook her head lightly at her daughter's calling. "I'm coming, I'm coming!" She said, smiling. Her daughters were already growing up! When she finally reached the juvenile, she asked, "So, you're ready? We have to go east, but still in our Pride's lands. We're looking for a gourde, you know what they look like," Isithunzi stated. She had a drum she took almost everywhere with her, though she didn't have it today. Isithunzi had decided to leave it in the cave, she had no need for it today. "If you know the way, lead the way," Isithunzi said with a tilt of the head.

Isithunzi smiled as she padded along behind Mawi, just a little bit. "So, we're going to find gourds," she repeated. "Do you know how to pick out a good gourd?" She asked her daughter as she double-checked the heading. Yes, they were going the right way. There was a good place to find them there, and then she'd have to use one of the hides Isi had back at home. That, or she could hunt something down for herself, but the hides Isithunzi had were properly aged. She had those and the claws and teeth back in her den. Yeah, might as well used one of her more recent hides, that way Mawi'd get to prepare it herself, but not have to go through the hassle of catching something.
The pair crested a hill and ahead was the bunch of gourds. "Go pick one out, then we'll have to take it all the way back to the den," Isithunzi informed her, giving the girll a little nudge.

Isithunzi watched as her daughter trotted out and returned with a gourd. Isi tapped at it lightly with a claw, her nearest ear perked to catch whatever sound came. It was a good, deep sound. She nodded "It's got a nice hardness to it, nice color, good sound when you tap it," She wasn't entirely sure if the sound it made when tapped actually had something to do with the sound it would make when all set up, but she always did it anyway. She'd found that if she liked the sound of the gourd, she'd like the drum better.
"Can you carry it? I've got some undeveloped hides back in our den, and same for some teeth and claws for it," She informed, wondering if she needed to take the gourd, or whether her daughter would be too proud to have it carried for her.
She smiled down at Mawi. Just think, Isi had been afraid of them when they were born! She loved them so... And they were growing up so fast!

"Sure Mawi," Isithunzi said brightly. Her daughter's joy was catchy, especially to Isithunzi. She could have ended up with cubs who wanted nothing more to do with her! Still, a fear crept into the lioness' mind. Her girls would both have their drums soon, but they'd also be heading out into the roguelands on their own. What else could a mother do than worry? There could be cub-nappers out there... She wouldn't follow them, and she would let them go on their quests, but she still would worry.
She gave her head a light shake to get those thoughts out. No need to worry about that, today was Mawi's day! They'd already picked out a pretty good gourde, half of the work was done! "We'll get to decorate it today too, you have any ideas on that part?" She simply expected a head-shake or nod, anything else might be difficult for the girl.

"You do that too, huh?" Isithunzi asked with regards to her daughter's double-tapping as she walked. Many would give Isi weird stares in her life for walking like that, but she never cared. She liked to make a song with her paws, apparently her daughter had picked up her knack for it.
"Alright, you wait here, I'll go get a good skin, alright? Or would you rather have me wait with your gourd and you can go pick a skin you like out of our den? It'd be best for you not to carry the gourd all the way up there," she added, knowing that her daughter would probably agree. Beyond that, she had no idea what Mawi would do.
Note to self: Move skins down to the drum circle, it makes life easier, she thought to herself with a light chuckle as she awaited her daughter's answer.

Isithunzi smiled warmly down at her cub before lowering herself more to aid in putting the drum together. "First thing you've gotta do from here is pierce some holes in the gourd, like so..." Isithunzi said, putting her claw to it and rubbing it around, starting to make a small dent. Before long, it was a hole. "See? You do the rest of them, about 7 more should do the trick. The holes are for these teeth and claws to go in to secure the drum head. Be sure to not make the holes too big, or the claws'll fit too loosely. Not to tight either, because you won't be able to fit them in, then." Isithunzi instructed. This was, by far, the hardest part of making a drum
