Boma'burudi's tan and brown form walked slowly weaving through downed moss covered logs, trees, and trudged through swamps. Her metallic wings pulled up in a cage around her second son, her survivor. She had not named him and refused to do so, his next mother would do that for him, she had no right claiming him with a name. Scolding herself inwardly for keeping him this long the goddess walked on in her eerily slow walk trying not to jostle the little form. She knew why she had kept him, the details on his back resembled wings and how she pined for an immortal baby, he was not one, but he resembled one enough that she fought the urge to discard him and the urge to keep him.
"Little man, little man, what will become of you," she sang in a soft raspy voice. He was just weened, and old enough to walk along side her on his own, but she liked the feeling of him nestled within her fur. She had explained to him that for his safety she needed to find someone to care for him, someone without wings.

The little white form, soon to be dubbed, Hewa, sat proudly atop his mother, not quite understanding what was happening. His mother was giving him to someone else, but why? Why was she in trouble, why did he need, what was the word? Safety? He knew he wanted her and only her, his maternal bond with her was strong, and she had coddled him and nursed him. He did not know he was special, that she did not even allow his older brother to nurse, he knew that his world was being torn apart.
"Mama?" He perked up and stepped forward his tiny claws digging into her fur as he moved. He perched on her neck and eyed the shiny beads that wrapped around it.
(XD Why pink? I'm not sure. <33)

"Don't ask why," she answered instinctually, "Mommy's been pretty silly keeping you, keeping you in danger little love, you'll be just fine, alright?" She stopped moving suddenly, and felt him jostle back onto her shoulder blades. There was a great expanse of swamp that she knew she would not be able to cross safely with her survivor on her back.
"Well, this is the end of the line, babe," she slowly descended onto her knees like she had done for weeks before and lowered her silver wing in a fashion that he would be able to slide down safely. She had kept her wings still for many weeks, because usually she was loud with her wings making haunting noises, the fear of scaring him caused her to be still.
"Get down, we'll stay here for now until I can think of what to do, I thought for sure there was a pride around here, the stories said so," Boma murmured to him.

The white cub slid down his mother's wing a wide smile stretched across his maw, "WEEE!" he squealed happily pulling at Boma's heartstrings as he did so. He tumbled to the soft earth and rebounded by doing a somersault and landing on his rump.
He landed in the muck that surrounded what should be the 'bank' of the swamp his dark fur tainted at the bottoms just like his mother's. He was curious about the murky water but refrained from stepping any closer, he was already sinking. Flicking his tail into the water he was over joyed by the rippling in the algae.
"Where are we? What is a pride? Why isn't this water clear like the watering hole?" He inquired his brown eyes following her face as he spoke. He wasn't panicked, but with a little more coaxing he could be full blown scared he looked to her for help and guidance.

Boma'burudi stood perfectly still reviewing what she was doing, leaving another child, but the last..he was taken care of, he was loved and had a family, this one, well only time could tell. Boma spent too much of her time underground to serve a mortal child well. But, the idea of abandoning him, it hurt too much.
She couldn't reply, could not explain the many things this child asked and would need to live near the great swamps. She turned her two-toned eyes away from him and stared off into the distance. She could make it across flying, obviously, but she did not know how to fly without flapping her wings, that was the way she was taught. Tears welled in her eyes, she would have to spend even more time with her little survivor, and it was already becoming so hard.

"Mama?" He asked quietly, his tail batting the water in irritation, he thought that perhaps she had not herd him, he was talk softly, "MAMA!" he shouted at her and was distraught that Boma would not look at him. Had he said something wrong? She only did what he said, never anything else.
"Mama?" he inquired softer now hoping that maybe she was just lost in thought and if he called enough she would snap out of it. His tail continued to tap the water algea and mud clinging to his white fur.
"Mama, are you alright?"

Mama Bwawa was lingering at the edge of the swamps and having a delightful soak when a faint, childlike cry met her ears. She might not have paid it any mind, had it not sounded distressed. There were countless ways to meet your death in these lands, and she didn't want one of the pride's precious cubs dying after all the trouble she'd been going through to repopulate the swamp.
Pulling herself from the mire, she made her way in the direction the sound had come from.

Boma'burudi felt like a cold hearted wretch for hurting her son like this, she was correct in assuming that she had already kept him too long. She had to leave him, she could not bare to see him grow old her visit to her oldest son in the future would be painful enough, he was already an adult, at least living this long, but he did not have her immortality.
"Look!" She shouted, "It's time you understand that Mama will not be around forever, and that someone new is supposed to take care of you, that's how it works!" her voice echoed in the eerie silence around them.
"So you will sit quietly, until I figure out what to do," she ordered. Drowning him was not an option, but it would have sated the rage that was beginning to well up inside of her.

He opened his mouth to call her once more and instantly snapped it shut with an audible pop. She had never taken a bad tone with him and it spooked him. What was wrong? Life had seemed good, at least he thought, maybe he was confused on what was really supposed to happen? Maybe this was how life was supposed to be, like she said.
His tail stilled as he looked at her, she still had not turned his way and it frightened him. He froze in place waiting for something to happen, what did she need to 'figer' out? He again assumed they were fine, they could follow the weird water line couldn't they? Did she want him to walk in the water like she did? he didn't think that would work well.
"But..Mama?" he tested quietly.

She was close enough by then to hear the shouting, and it made her pause a moment, head tipped curiously to the side as she puzzled over it. It sounded like someone was leaving a cub. But why here? The swamps were a dangerous place to leave a child, after all, and simply hope that someone would find it. Well, whatever the reason, Mama Bwawa was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, as it were.
Emerging from the vegetation, looking for a split second like she was part of it, Mama was surprised to find that the angry mother was in fact a goddess. Hiding the surprise well, she asked, "May I help you? I am Mama Bwawa, and this is my domain."

Boma'burudi jumped at the foreign voice and looked around not spotting Mama Bwawa, domain, Boma quickly assumed it was a goddess speaking to her and she gulped, what would she think of her for having a mortal son? Not many immortals agreed with her love of mortals. Turning she spotted a pair of eyes and then finally made out the entire goddess.
"I am Boma'burudi, goddess of the earth's womb," this was the first time Hewa would hear his mother's name, and one of the only times, "I heard of a great pride residing in these swamps, and want my young to be far away from .." she paused and took a breath, "From his mortal father, this is somewhere no one would look."
She shot Hewa a cruel look, her two-toned eyes filled with anguish and hatred. She loved him and hated the idea of him all at once and it tore her apart as it did the first time.

Mama Bwawa made no commentary on the other's plight, nor on the look in her eyes. She didn't even ask why she wanted the cub not to be near his father; it was all of no consequence, as far as she was concerned, and there was no reason to waste her breath on it.
"Then my pride will take him, if that is your wish," she said simply, nodding. "There has been a dearth of boys in this latest generation." And besides that, the more unrelated blood they pulled in, the better.

Hewa could not believe his ears, Mama was really going to give him to..Mama? He shook his head and backed away from this new goddess. On top of that the new information that his mother was called Boma'burudi, not Mama after all.
"I don't want to Mama, why?" He looked at her again wondering just what was going to happen.

Boma'burdi ignored her little one's plea for him to stay with her and continued to focus on the new goddess, "Take him then, kicking, screaming, whatever it takes, as long as he is looked after I wont care either way." She said coldly hoping that this could be resolved quickly. Her soul felt as if it was being torn in two she wanted so badly to stay with this little one, and at the same time to run herself screaming and kicking.

Mama Bwawa sketched a bow, horned head lowered and algae-covered wings spread. She did not speak again; instead she grabbed up the little one by the scruff of his neck, and in accordance with Boma'burudi's wishes ignored any kicking or screaming and disappeared with him into the depths of the swamp.
