How would you set-up a defensive barricade?

From where I stand I would Barricade the Windows with anything in the front like bed frames and attempt to reinforce them with heavy objects. Set-up a defensive perimeter so that it would take time for anything to climb over cars or shelves. So anything I don't need downstairs will become a barricade or stay useless. Survival comes first so if I had a tank I'd use that or put some machine guns on the second floor. If I could I'd use those locks that Wil used in I Am Legend and use that perimiter he made just in case.

Hopefully you can stop or at least slow them down before they reach your place. Some sort of advance warning system would be nice (we have dogs). You can get these things that are made for the driveway to alert you when someone pulls in but they work in other locations also.

go roam through this place http://www.hi-vel.com/Catalog__20/catalog__20.html They have some really nice things.

You need a ladder to reach the windows of this place other than one window. It's double pane glass and all we have to do is shut the door to the basement and it's sealed off.

A tank would be nice. I'd like a little panzer II to go into town shoping in. But for now I drive a 4 wheel drive older jeep with a brush gaurd and since it already has a nice dent (thankyou Jim) I don't worry about it getting injured. We have an old Ford truck (4 wheel drive) that will go just about anywhere also.

2x4s and screws, ah, a classic.

Well, a tall smooth wall would be ideal, because they could climb a chain link fence or bust up a picket fence.

Boarding doors or windows?
I would use thicker boards like 4x6s since it seems that in the movies 2x4s snap like twigs.

Doors,
I would board up the door and then have a two boards with a 45 degree angle cut on each side so as to be propped to the door and to the floor and then screwed. That I would use a 4x4 or 6x6.

My neighbor has an M37, which with his welding tools, could be turned into a Zombie Marauder.

We put metal strapping over the window in the lower garage and it has been abused twice but no one has manged to get through it. A strap every 3 inches. Still get air and sunlight in but even a big guy hitting it couldn't break through (so far).

Depends on where I am, what's available and how much time I have.

If I have, say, a small crew of people(three counting me), a suburban home, and any choice of tools or materials, and a day's time, I'd dig a trench, build a wooden(because wood goes up fast, a day isn't enough to set up concrete) fence with the earth I dug out of the trench(which is just ahead of the wall, making the wall higher) to back up the wall(as a berm). Then I'd run chain link across the top of that. I'd set that up on all four sides.

I'd also affix steel plate(1/4" or 1/8") to the outside of all the windows.

A "watchtower" would be built on the roof into the attic(it pokes out on both sides and rises out of the roof).

The area all around the wall on the outside(except for sod placed on the trench) would be burned away, and all nearby trees would be cut down.

A simple bridge would be built from one house to another one that is not secured to act as another "fatal funnel" and a way into and out of the compound.

Go to a secure location with few windows and approxamitly 2 doors. Take a truck to home depot and bring back all the cement possible, make a big wall and outside the wall dig pitfalls.

Wanna know the good thing about working on an unfinished basement?

We've plenty of wood, screws, nails, and even our on compressor to work with.

Yup, I'm still going for 2x4s.

Wow, I just thought about it. Sam's Club would make a real good hold out place. Its big, open, has lots of nonperishable foods, more than enough shelves to secure doors and windows, there is a gas pump across the parking lot, it has power generators, the only thing it doesn't have is ammo.

Yeah, and it's got 1000 people in there who thought exactly what you did.

I would find a building that has a few lower floors that is steady and won't collapse under extreme weight and secure it. I would disable the elevator and knock out the stairs. I would construct a bridge to the next adjacent building and some of the other nearby ones and secure the exits to it, but not take out the stairs and elevator. I would put something near the bridge to destroy it if need be, I would also use the cables to slide down the elevator shaft and climb back up.

I would get as many long range weapons as I could and put them in as many windows as I could, short range weapons would be used for their purposes. I would try to get some rope and tie it to something strong inside the building so if need be we could repel out the windows and or climb back in.

Yes it seems way to advanced for a 15 year old but if I had the extra people with me it could work.

Be an example to your men,
in your duty and in private life. Never spare yourself,
and let the troops see that you don't in your endurance
of fatigue and privation.

We moved into an apartment. D=

As a change of strategy I'd pack up stuff during the "oh s**t" stage and get back to my old house just a few blocks away. I'd bolt the bunks of my bunk bed across windows so we can see and shoot through the bars, but the zeds couldn't get in. I only have 2 bunks though so I'd have to use something else for the other windows. I'd also seal off all doors then cut a hole in the attic roof with a ladder leading into the attic and another ladder on the roof to get to and from the ground. While doing my home improvement have my sister gather friends and supplies and have my grandpa grab weapons. Hopefully we could get 8 people with enough supplies to last and divide the people into 4 teams. Each team gets a 6 hour watch shift on the roof and the rest of the time would be divided between searching the area, resting, or maintenance.

During searches two teams would be sent out and would stay together.

Always be tactful and well-mannered and teach your
subordinates to do the same. Avoid excessive
sharpness or harshness of voice, which usually
indicates the man who has shortcomings of his own to hide.
