It's bad enough I see "txt tlk" when I'm on MSN. It's bad enough I see "txt tlk" in my emails. It's bad enough I see "txt tlk" on Gaia.
But now they're teaching it to us in school?
Shoot me.
While in French class, my teacher told me to open my textbook to page... well I can't remember the page, but whatever. So I opened the book, and right there. To my horror. Was "txt tlk". In French.
So, eyes wide, mouth gaping, I stare at the page. While the teacher is happily teaching us French words written in txt tlk, I am suffering a heart attack. What's even worse is that she told us to write sentences in French with 'txt tlk'.
It makes me weep. crying

If it's any consolation, when I worked as a teacher, any time I saw text talk in my pupils' exercise books, I would make them write out the whole exercise again. It never worked but at least it made me feel better.

The current generation of education is reinforcing this ill-advised fad, and it seems that it's not going away anytime soon. sad

If they did that here in my college, I just might panic.
Slightly off topic: At my job yesterday, a student came in with an essay that had the world "like" every sentence or so. Drove me nuts...and to top it off, she spelled 'through' as 'thru', and thought it was perfectly acceptable. stressed

Please proofread, then hand the essay back." It would be perfect! And then, if she hands it back exactly how it is, take off points for every "like" and "thru" she uses. That's what I would do.

That fails so hard. I just hope that "txt tlk" doesn't get into my Spanish class, or worse. English. *Cue loud girly scream in horror* Just imagine if my next essay were to be written in "txt tlk." I would puke.

If I ever had to use "txt tlk" in Spanish or English class I think I might die. But why would they do that? Some kids would get so into it, that the teacher wouldn't be able to understand it. And I'm truly sorry for you.

I talked to her, and she said, "I had no idea that 'like' wasn't supposed to be, like, used a whole lot." I smiled and handed the paper back and told her to please proofread it before coming before me again. -sighs- If I find text talk in an essay, I just might bring the red marker to work with me, even though it's not encouraged.

I can relate to you, in a way, crazy-erika.
There's always been so much text talk in my school that it's driving me nuts. There's this one person in my own chemistry class with the most annoying voice similar to Spongebob's (Hate the annoying voice, no offense, but it's a preppy-sarcastic-y voice to me), has a right-hand person of a whore]( a young stupid blonde girl, yet again no offense, but she's extremely wimpy), crappy Brady Bunch hair (If you saw it, you might think it was, for those of you who have seen the show) that you can turn into a topiary, and has an "macho"-"what up dog"-"immature"-idiotic-lewdster-attitude.
I have had it with this person, using text talk, such as "J-K, J-K" or "lol, rofl" in front of my teacher whenever he tries to be funny during class or fools around. It's extremely hard for me to believe that he is smarter than me in chemistry, yet disrupts the class every 5 seconds. And this is an HONORS class too, which just screws it up even more! I get worser grades than him, yes, but I at least have the drive not to turn our classroom into a hellhole of text talkers.
Guess what? This is worse. Almost every teacher in the school uses it too. That's scarier, knowing the english language is already declining somewhere educational<_< Well, luckily tomorrow's my birthday, so hopefully I will have my revenge by cutting off that Brady Bunch hair into a topiary that says "I Suck". (Yes, the person has bushy enough hair for it to happen, however it won't since I'm not that mean, or am I?)

My generation is ruined. So are all the other ones that are coming.
My eleven-year-old cousin who is in fourth grade has an English text book with txttlk in it. The two of us are disgusted and disappointed.

Heh...the day I do all of my college-level English assignments in full text-talk is the day I'd put a 12-gauge to my head and pull the trigger!
Ah, the wonders of de-evolution...slowly but surely, we're getting hosed. The last of our freaking kind here, that's what we're talking about!

Seriously, let's just go on a mass killing spree and get this over with. That was terrible. The day I finish my high-school in txt-tlk, surely, I will order my friends to snipe me.
