Note: The Poetry Charity Now only exchanges poetry.
1. Poetry Charity Rules
1. Do not beg or post your long wish list of expensive items in this thread. Do not advertise junk lists here.
2. Please be polite and kind to everyone in this thread. Respect all of the poets here. Say nice things about their work. Poetry is personal, please respect the artists.
3. No foul language please. This is a literate thread for educated people (or those who would like to think they are). Obey all Gaia rules please.
4. Not everyone will get a donation every week. If I do not give you a donation at first, please do try again another time. It does not mean I do not like your poetry, it may mean I am low on funds.
5. All requests for gold or items must be accompanied by an original poem. You must also post your poem in this thread, and you must stay and chat/bump here at least 20 times. This thread has become a warm friendly place between the poets and those who like to chat with them. I would like to keep it this way.
If you try to pass off someone else’s poetry as your own—my father Okonkwo* will come after you (or worse).
Application
Application Form: 1. PM this application to Obiageli 2. Post it in this thread after you PM it. 3. Post your poem in this thread after you PM it to me as well. 4. Bump/Chat 20 or more times here before I will process your charity request.
*Donate: It really shows me you still care for others, even though you're questing* *Chat in my thread: To show that you're not just here to get gold then leave. Plus, bumping gets boring. Chat with people and have a great time! Leave positive comments about other people's poetry. I am more likely to honor the requests of those who contribute positively to others.* *Have a quest page: So I can see if you're dedicated to your quest.*
I am a humble poet who would love a donation!
1. Username: 2. Date Joined Gaia: 3. For what are you questing?:
4. How much have you saved towards your quest?: 5. Quest thread? ((optional)): 6. Why should my charity donate to you?
7. I have bumped your charity thread ____ times.
8. Original Poem:
"No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world." "Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys [and girls], make your lives extraordinary." from Dead Poets Society
*Okonkwo is my fictional father from Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart. You seriously do not want to mess with him! eek
I have a pet slime. I named him after my "father" Okonkwo. Please help me feed him daily! Okonkwo was one of the slimiest people I have ever met! wink
Now, let me tell you a little bit about my dad Okonkwo. There are some things about him that were cool. He was a really great wrestler for example! Okonkwo was a wealthy and respected warrior of the Umuofia clan, a lower Nigerian tribe that is part of a consortium of nine connected villages, including Okonkwo’s village, Iguedo. In his youth, he brought honor to his village by beating Amalinze the Cat in a wrestling contest. Until his match with Okonkwo, the Cat had been undefeated for seven years.
Now, you may ask, why would I name my slime after him? Well, there were some things that were not cool about my dad—the slimy things. My dad had three wives—that alone was not a big deal in our culture. But, I feel he did not honor my mom when he married a younger one when she saw him wrestle Amalinze the Cat. My mom was not the favorite. In fact he never even called her by her name! Okonkwo is terrified of looking weak like his father, my grandfather Unoka. As a result, he behaves rashly, bringing a great deal of trouble and sorrow upon himself and his family. He shot a gun at my stepmother for example—luckily he missed! Everyone in our village was angry with him during the Week of Peace when he beat my other stepmother—and all she did was go get her hair done for heaven’s sake! But the biggest thing he did was when he was responsible for killing my friend. I won’t go into the details as it really really bugs me. He even thought of this young man as a son! Now that is slimy!
Now, then you may ask, why should you feed this little slimy Okonkwo if he is so slimy? He did do a few nice things. The thing that tops my list is the way he treated my stepsister Ezinma when she was sick. Ezinma was always his favorite. I do not mind this so much. I am not the jealous type. My dad, Okonkwo, wishes that Ezinma were a boy because she would have been the perfect son. Well, anyway Ezinma was always getting really sick. Once, Chielo, the priestess of the goddess Agbala, came to take her away. We did not know whether she was taking her away for healing or to die or what. My dad followed her in secret (he was not supposed to do this) to make sure she was safe. He loved her so much. For a man’s man, there were times when he could be really tender and caring, especially when it came to her.
So, even though my dad Okonkwo could be slimy sometimes, my little slime is not he! Please feed my slime, Okonkwo! Thank you! heart

5. Charity/Quest History
This thread began in March of 2007 as a quest for Momos. I now have plenty of Momos. mrgreen
I am a high school English teacher. My Gaia adventure started in October of 2006 when my son wanted some extra gold. He asked to use me as a "mule" account to gain gold. At the time my students were reading Achebe's Things Fall Apart so I selected the name Obiageli from the book for my avatar. I ignored my Gaia account until a year ago during winter break. During that time I started playing around with Obi, and discovered for myself how much fun this interactive website can be. I now treasure the friendships I have made through this site.
My avi, Obiageli, is a character from the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. I love literature and poetry. This is why I choose Obiageli for my avatar; I wanted to bring a minor character from literature to life through this creative website. To find out more about my avi, please go visit my profile and read my journals. If this does not satisfy your quest for knowledge, you might enjoy reading Mr. Achebe’s fascinating book.
As my avi is from Nigeria, I want her to look like she is from there, yet with a somewhat contemporary look as well. My first idea of a Nigerian avi is complete. However, I do sometimes enjoy dressing up with the monthly items for fun (who can resist becoming a mermaid for example!).
I had been on a MoMo quest because as MoMo is a monkey he might be found in Nigeria. I have placed 3 MoMos in my home and I and have kept one for my avi.
I reached my first goal on June 27, 2007, however, I still enjoy collecting MoMos. Thank you to all of you who donated MoMos! heart

6. Charity Requests & Contributions January 2008:
Harpsdesire Questing for: An AFK Poetry Quest Contribution: 2000 gold
Original Poem:
I'm Real
Trapped myself in this perfection So pure and shining to the sun I never killed or stole, I hardly ever lied So why did I hide the things I've done?
Why was I So afraid of what you thought I lived a lie But now I know what time has taught I'm a regular girl like any other I'll try to escape from the ties that smother I cry and I crawl and I lie and I fall and I feel- I'm real.
Self imposed, it was my prison Perfect virgin vision in their sight I never spoke my mind, but yes I thought those words... The mask that I wore Left me Chafed and sore...
Why would I Always hide what makes me me? Now I don't fear to let you see I'm a regular girl like the rest I'm tired of trying to always be the best I sigh and I sin and lose and I win and I feel- I'm real.
I tried to pretend that I never imagined The deeds that hung and haunted in the night It was a way to keep my terrors safe, I painted myself white. What's the use of storing dust in gold? Now I must be young before I'm old....
I hid my fear in good behavior Straight A's and service to the poor That doesn't mean that I don't get those dirty jokes. I can't deny It any more.
Why did I Live a lie to fit and flatter? How could I Pretend it didn't matter? That virtue-bright stare Hid the sorrow in there... I'm a regular girl just like you Learning now "to thine own self be true". But I strive and I scream and I thrive and I dream and I feel-- I'm real.
I was a dream in flesh and glitter So gentle, cloying-sweet and dull Wore this disguise so long I forgot how life could feel But one day I remembered I am real!
Sick of deception, Of dodging perception Even oysters need some dirt to make a pearl. I'm an regular girl like the rest of the world My soul may be tarnished but at least it's unfurled. I laugh and I wish and I hurt and I kiss and I feel...
I'm real.

Original Poem:
The forest of people
In the forest of people, I'm small as you see, just one in a million, they don't care about me.
I'm small but I'm gifted, and as you can see, I'm just one in a million, and they don't listen to me
I hear them talking It's me they can't see I may be just one in a million, but listen to me!
I'm tired of scilence, I scream to the sky, I yell out my talent, they don't ask why
It doesn't matter if your small as long as you're gifted and work your best your spirits'll be lifted trust me, I know
You're one in a million, but you are unique, everyone is gifted, if you work at your peak.
You may have some failure, fall once or twice, if you do your best you'll make it; take my advice
A forest of people, is a forest to me to you or another, it may be a sea a forest of people is everyone around, you need their opinion, or fall to the ground
Discover your talent, like all the rest. Train it and work it, you'll be the best
The forest of people, is a big place shout out your talent or win your first race
In the forest of people, you're not alone, shout out your talent, do your best, you're not just one in a million, you are unique, you can also be gifted, if you work at your peak.
