Has anyone ever made a kimono or yukata before?
I have made one, but I was wondering whether I was the only one.
Any tips?

This is the pattern I used.
I will post pics when I finish the second one, which is bound to come out better!

My sister made a very pretty kimono, I have always thought about making a kimono but the patterns look very confusing and it takes a loooot of fabric, once I get better sewing abilities I'll probably try one ^^

but yeah ^^ please post pics ^^

i haven't made one, but i own a very old kimono from when my great aunt went to japan decades ago

i also own a yukata (very very basic and cheep one. have you ever stolen a mini shampoo bottle from a hotel? i stole the bath robe... ninja ) unfortunatly i think i lost the belt to it.

i may use those as a base to make a pattern out of one day in the far future. i need to figure out how to turn a sewing machine on first... sweatdrop

I too own a yukata. But I didn't know that's what it was when I got it. A friend of mine went to Japan and he asked me if I wanted him to bring me back anything. I said,"Steal me something!" He brought me back this navy blue robe with sumo all over it. He stole it from an onsen, a public bath house! (**just like Minathia**) It wasn't until two years later that I started researching and found what it was exactly.

You want to make sure the fabric is a tradtional navy and white. Should be pretty easy to sew. I think you'll have no problem making it.

I was searching to see if I could find any patterns or anything and I found some website that might help you a little.

http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Troy/5187/kimono.html
Basic make your own pattern site.

http://www.kenmei.ac.jp/~tatara/english/kimono/kimono3.html
Shows a bunch of students making them, gives you some idea of the steps.

This site just looks cool so far, I haven't really poked around it much yet.

I made a modified one for cosplay before.
Making the obi was slightly annoying because I simply didn't have such a length of fabric.
However, got over it by joining 3 lengths of cloth together (3 because if you only use 2 long pieces, when you tie the obi, the joint will show)
