Howdy, folks,
We're still a bit away from our long-awaited website update, so I wanted to drop in and let you know how things are going.
Short answer...really well! The game is shaping up really nicely and we'll have a solid core soon that we can start letting QA rip into. So the end of the long, dark production tunnel approacheth! Bonzer!
Nope...we're still not announcing a launch date, but here's a sample of the stuff that we *are* working on. Those of you that might be familiar with game production will be able to tell how we're doing by what we're working on. wink
* AI is progressing in leaps and bounds. The design team has been able to set up staggered patrols of groups composing of multiple types of monsters (very cool), and their scripting powers have become formidable, setting up camps with pickets, guards, and more.
* About half of the game's launch areas are now ready to test with quest trees, dialog, and encounter scripts.
* The music compositions are starting to trickle in. We're going to have great music. More on that soon.
* Sound effects are just brilliant. The guys doing our sound are just spot on with the way the rings, monsters and environmental sounds are hilarious, yet perfect for the world.
* The "Name the Game" contest is over...and we're *so* close to announcing a winner! (Just waiting for a legal check of the name to be complete before we announce.)
* The Quest system has been upgraded to handle Battle quests on the main site. We're just starting the work to allow that info to be seen within the game itself also.
* We're running our test server on "real" hardware now. In other words, it's an example of the architecture we intend for the many, many replications of those servers we'll need for Launch Day.
* Work has just begun on a chat system to bridge communications all over the site so that Battle users can talk to everyone else, even while playing.
There's tons more, but I've got to get back to work now. I thought you'd appreciate a quick note to let you know how we're doing anyway.
It's going to be a wild ride. You'll see. wink
