I've heard from a couple of my friends that it is not possible to register/purchase a gun if someone has had a history of psychiatric problems/hospital stays. Is that true? Any feedback would be great.

This will vary by state and city, as well as by the specific diagnosis of the mental disorder in question.

If it is a life long problem that drugs and/or therapy will not resolve, don't plan on owning a gun of any kind.

Especially after that last college shooting that made the news. More states will impose draconian policies against people with mental disorders.

Even the NRA has backed down somewhat from defending the rights of individuals with psychiatric problems.

You'll have to check your state for specific laws.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback, I really do appreciate it!! This forum is one of the only places that has given somewhat of a positive feedback too. I'll post more often here.

Try www.packing.org for some more info. They used to have links to all the states firearms pages. I haven't been there in a while but its worth checking. Also google your state for info. Good luck.
