I haven't been able to find hardly any books that are Steampunk. The difference engine was a good one.

I'm a big fan of Steampunk. I read The Difference Engine, didn't really enjoy it, but oh well. I saw this on BoingBoing the other day: http://www.vimeo.com/860821/. Hilarious video.

Try reading the Bas-lag trilogy by China Mevelie. The first book is called Perdido Street Station, the second is The Scar, and the final book is called Iron Council. They are almost all hard to get through for the first two or three chapters, but well worth it. I defiantly recommend them. Also, if you haven't read the His Dark Materials books by Phillip Pullman, you should. You'll no doubt recognize The Golden Compass, if nothing else because of the movie. I'll post more if I can think of any.

Indeed, the His Dark Materials series is wonderful. I really didn't think about it much at first but it does have quite a lot of steam-punk goodness in it. I promise the books are far better than the movies, They're wonderful. Individually the books are The Golden Compass, the Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass.

Well, I myself am fairly new to Steampunk, but I most certainly am in love with it. In fact, the mention of Steampunk is why I was invited to join here. xD

Alas, any of the material I would've had to offer has kinda...wait scratch that thought. I just thought of what I can offer. Alas, it is anime/manga material, so for those that would not like that sort of thing...pay me no heed.

There are several of the Final Fantasies that have very strong Steampunk elements to them. The ones I can think of right off are Final Fantasies Six, Nine, and Twelve. Perhaps Thirteen. I've yet to truly look into it.

The second material I have to recommend is both a book and a movie. And both are quite good. If anyone is familiar with Hayo Miyazaki (sp?) and his work, there is one called Howl's Moving Castle. (The book is named the same, and the book and movie are very close to each other in plot and characterization.) It has an interesting dose of fantasy and Steampunk alike.
