Was any one as shocked as I was to find out that Itachi was a spy?

I was but I think there is still something thats bothering me and thats weither or not he was brainwashed into being a spy.

funny how no one in the beginning ever thought that there was another motive Itachi had in killing all the Uchiha clan. Then we find out that he was only doing the dirty work of Konoha and then was banished for following orders. I guess my only speculation left is Sasuke didn't get killed cuz he didn't know anything or the fact that Itachi couldn't kill his own brother. And the reason why Itachi probably killed his best friend was so that he can gain more power to act on his mission if the Uchiha clan decided to have a civil war kinda thing, to kill them all. Well, that's only speculation.
