Hey, I am seeing recently that I may know the guns, and the general saying of 7.62 and 5.56, but what is the common measurements?

Also, I wanna know, whats the - for in something like .30-06? Also grains, anything bout em.(I know what they are, just how do you firgure out amount, quality etc?)

And anything else you think i may not know.

7.62/5.56 are metric equivalents for our SAE system's .308 caliber and .223 caliber. So 7.62mm = .308"

The .30-06 was adopted in 1906, so it's just saying that it's a .30 caliber of 1906.

1 grain = 1/7000 of a pound, pretty straightforward.

The reasoning behind this still eludes me.

Maybe they use it because it has something to do with how it burns?

Nah, it's used for propellant and bullet weight alike. It's just a unit of measurement used for object that wouldn't be practical to use larger units on.

I don't think so. There was my search for the chambering of the French MAS rifle a few months back...

this is the first thing i found when searching. Everything else constited of Wildcat rounds (make your own)

Now for all those who don't know this already.

Magnum= pistol bullet with longer casing, meaning more propellant.

.357 Magnum= .38 Special with longer casing
.44 Magnum= .44 Special with longer casing
.454 Casull= .45 Colt with longer casing
.500 Magnum= original round (I thought it was an upscaled .50 AE originally)
