Ilahle had wandered off by herself for a while in the twilight before dawn having woken to find the others nearby still asleep. The sun had not yet broken over the horizon but it was coming soon, surely, from the way the sky looked. Brilliant red with gold bleeding up from below, the clouds dark inkblots on this colourful canvas. The desert sands were still cool though, and the black female enjoyed the chill as she padded across Firekin sands. It felt dreamlike so far this morning, the desert so still, and she felt strong and well.

From beside Ilahle, a contrasting bulk of red began to shift once the warmth of the black female had gone. Desert nights were known to be fiercely cold, another contrast to be found in this "barren" land. He tiredly opened a pair of red eyes to look for his mate, only to find her indeed absent.
Kadogo rose from his space then after a short debate (to keep dozing and see if she returned(?), or to go find her now?), and he set out to find his dark beauty.
It wasn't difficult to follow her scent. The air was a bit still this early morning, and made it easy to track. Soon she came into view, and Kadogo joined her on silent paws and heavy steps.
"Still early to rise..." He rumbled, eyes narrowed tiredly, but ever aware. They knew that their other halves had not taken defeat well, and who knew if one or two might be lurking still for a chance to exact revenge? He'd protect her, his home, at any cost.

Kadogo didn't get too close before she became aware of him and she stopped in her tracks to wait for him to draw nearer. When he spoke Ilahle half turned, looking over her shoulder at her mate with a coy smile. The deep growl that was a lioness's purr rumbled in her chest and she completed her turn to stride the last few paces to meet him properly. Anyone else she would have been somewhat annoyed to meet on this strangely calm morning, but she was glad to see him.
"I woke from a strange dream and simply fancied a walk. You missed me then, Kadogo?" She teased lightly as she explained her absence from their shared den.

"It's colder without you." Came his teasingly vague reply, growling back with his own rumbling purr, bumping her head with his. "Strange dreams, is it? I've had my share of those. Do you remember what you were dreaming about?"
Idle conversation, something that he pursued with Ilahle and only Ilahle, because she genuinely interested him. Dreams especially were a topic that he found himself thinking on often. They were perplexing things, dreams, and a little insight from someone else often helped sort them out.

Who else would Ilahle even tell she was having strange dreams, let alone explain them? She loved her brothers dearly but had not been so close to any of them since they started to grow up and apart. And she respected her parents too much to waste their time with such trivial things like this. But every moment with Kadogo was something to treasure and she'd happily discuss anything, even her dreams.
"I was out in the desert on a morning much like this, actually. Some strange lions were waiting there for me and we circled each other, and fought viciously. But the blow were soft and our paws velveted and none of us came to harm." More a dance, really, but it already sounded silly enough to Ilahle now she was saying it outloud.
"You came and chased them away."

That was a strange dream indeed, and Kadogo had been hoping to offer some insight, but he was unsure as to what to make of it himself. Maybe it was meaningless, just a dream for the sake of dreaming?
"Hmm... they were wise to run if that's the case." He knew, and she knew, that she could take perfectly good care of herself, but Kadogo was nothing if not protective over those precious to him, and he would have rendered anyone limb from limb that he thought might come after his mate.
Draping one possessive paw around her shoulders he drew her in and nuzzled his head against hers with a rumbling purr again, this time grooming her face lovingly as well. Alone like this in the early morning hours he could display as much affection as he wanted without worry of others thinking him too soft, or much worse, his mother shooting him smug looks. How he'd cherish the day he got to wipe that look off the lioness' face for good, if such a day ever came, but that was unlikely. His brother Hiashi might go as far as to interfere, and the deadly difference between he and Hiashi was that his brother was emotionless and quite probably beyond the hindrance of pain. It was as if someone had taken all that was terrifying and lethal about his mother and given it a mane and a ridiculous pain tolerance.
Hopefully it wouldn't come to that, but he wasn't comfortable having Azula anywhere near his family, and would -never- allow her to be a part of their lives. NEVER.
"And now...? Would you rather go for a walk together before going back to the dens?"

"Well it seems like you're the best offer I'm going to get - no lions out here."
She chuckled, clearly jesting with him as she returned his affections. Ilahle stood out as dark as a cloud against the red morning sky as she nuzzled against her mate. She was just as possessive as he was over her and entwined a paw around the one that wasn't around his shoulders - let anyone ever tell her she was going soft and she'd snarl at them. Their love blazed to her and was a great source of strength. She'd fought like a devil at his side, during the battle, all the more fierce for his being there.
"A walk...I'm too awake to go back to a dozy pride. Or maybe you'd like to spar with me, since my dream-lions aren't here to keep me amused" She purred, inviting.

Kadogo smirked, but then growled, stalking towards her, butting his forehead against hers following her nuzzle.
"A spar, huh? Sounds good to me."
They were Firekin, after all, and while that might not mean they were blood thirsty, they did value staying on top of their game. Kadogo and Ilahle certainly did. Even their former "slaves" had been trained, Ilahle's more than Kadogo's. The twins had been in need of more mental, or emotional training before they could focus on physical. Huang seemed to have a natural talent for focus, Yin-li was usually thinking too much as a child, and Chen-li too timid. Kadogo preferred to train often, himself, though, so practice with Ilahle would keep him on his paws for sure.

Ilahle padded a few feet away and circled a little, slinking. She was not a soldier by nature but she could fight well as any of her fellows. By nature you could say Ilahle was a huntress. She enjoyed the thrill of the chase, the kill, and all the skills that went with hunting. Teamwork and strategy. Melding yourself into your surroundings and moving as silently as a shadow. Only a few of these skills transferred into a head on fight though - she could hardly take Kadogo by surprise! The agility and quick thinking however gave her some edge.
"Come then." She growled and checked herself mentally to keep her claws in.

His muscles flexed, tensing and relaxing and then tensing again as he limbered himself up for the match. With Ilahle he didn't worry much about holding back, and it was a good feeling. Firekin females were known to be fiercer still than the males, as they did most of the hunting, moved with a bit more speed and grace, natural hunters, natural killers. Knowing that he could come at her for real and she'd keep pace made the sparring all the more enjoyable, and then there was the cool down afterward.
His charge came swiftly, his own claws in check, safely tucked in their sheaths. Lunging, he aimed to bring them both to the sands if possible, where he'd have the advantage of size.

Ilahle, however, had the advantage of agility. Ever seen a large prey animal fall down almost on top of a lioness during the hunt? Heavy things falling at speed on you were not the best things in the world. You had to be quick on your paws sometimes and learn to take a blow while getting out of the worst of it's impact.
She too enjoyed that she could put all her strength into a spar with her mate without worrying. She flung all she had into the move. If he was taking them down she refused to be trapped underneath his greater bulk.

As she shifted her weight he felt it. She pulled back and he crashed to the sands under her weight instead with a loud grunt. "Heavy!" He protested teasingly, wrapping his paws around her swiftly in an attempt to pin her to his chest before she could pull away again, smirking up at her. This was a sparring match, but he took the chance to flirt when it had been so boldly presented. "You know, if you wanted to end up in my arms like this you only had to ask."
He leaned up with that, placing a big, sopping kiss to her cheek, fully prepared for any retaliation should she decide to wallop him for that move.

"Idiot" She snarled, but her affection was obvious as she roughly nipped on his ear before trying to free herself. Big lug. He was lucky she loved him and so help her actually found such acts cute somehow.
Ilahle would in a real fight sought to use her back claws to gouge at her opponents belly if they pulled a fool move like grabbing her. But she liked Kadogo's guts on the inside of Kadogo, naturally. So instead she just pitted her strength against his. She wanted more sparring before he took her home as his.

He laughed at the affectionate insult, but didn't let her go. He wanted to see if she could break his hold on her own. When she began to wrestle against the tightness of his forearms he rolled his weight away from her and pulled her with, aiming to pin her onto her back, but somehow he lost his hold in the process. He couldn't keep a hold on her AND roll them at the same time. The match would continue.
"Slippery little thing." He growled, the sound rumbling deep in his chest as he began to circle her, eying her intently. He was in no real hurry, but the sooner they finished this match...

"You know you love it."
She couldn't help it, as she managed to get free and leapt clear, getting ready to circle again... she winked at him. His flirting had awoken her own flirtatious side and she had to smile as she looked for another opening. It was like waking again from that disquieting dream, into something so much more.
