He had been wandering for a couple of weeks. His paws were sore, and his stomach rumbled, hunting alone had prooven more difficult than he expected. despite his fathers training the youngster was finding it hard to hunt alone.
Despite his rumbling stomach and foot sore body, the youngster was happy. he was free. free of the pride he had decided just wans't for him. He wanetd to be an equal. Looking to the sky he stretched out his youthful limbs shaking his flock of hair that would one day become a mane.
Tilting his nose to the air he breathed in the heady scent of other lions. Unaware that prides perhaps didn't like intruders he simply shrugged off the new smells and continued on his way in to new lands. he was enjoying life as a rogue, even if it was hard work, still he missed the company of others and perhaps, just maybe these other lions would welcome him for a while.

Unyezi was out for a walk in the afternoon sun, taking his time to look around the area. As usual, he took it upon himself to double up as a guard, where there were so few of them around right now. With such a peaceful area, though, he didn't generally have to look too long. He was considering taking a trip out towards the mountains, they were quite close to the border but it was one of his favorite places. It was after Aure had introduced him to it that he'd decided this, the first night they'd really stopped being so awkward with each other.
Shortly after changing his course, he spotted a small and dark lion heading his way- sort of. He wasn't the best at remember all of the pridemembers, but he knew that Ally was the darkest of the youngsters in the pride (though he hadn't yet met Njiru's cubs). And with the borders so close and considering the size of the lion, it wasn't very likely to be anyone from the pride that he had not yet met.
The king stopped and watched for a moment.

Pyke stopped in his tracks as the pale lion swam in to his line of sight, his pale eyed gaze watched for a long silent moment before he picked up his paws once again and made a beeline for the older lion.
"Hello." He smiled, unafraid of the big male. He had after all been braught up around males, told he would have to live with them, so he feared the male populaion far less than the female. Wagging his blond tipped tail he sat slowly.
"Uhm, do you know where I am? I'v been wandering for a little while and I have no idea." He beamed brightly his lilac eyed gaze flickering from the big lion to the scenery which surrounded them. He was after all learning the lay of the land. His father had taught him that.

Unyezi was surprised when the young lion approached him so easily, so trustingly. It seemed he was either naive, in a family nearby who knew about the pride or was already adopted into the pride somehow. All of the options except naive were crossed out in the king's mind as soon as the little one said he didn't know where he was. He had a very nice smile, though. He was very friendly and cheerful looking despite being a rogue. Keeping safe and well-fed at his age was difficult when on your own.
"You're in the pride lands of the Mwezi'Johari pride," he answered brightly, "It's pretty peaceful around here but you still shouldn't be out on your own. Where are you from?"

"Oh" It was a very simple reply and one that perhaps didn't really express his gratitude of being in pride lands once again. The flash of a memory crossed his mind as he remembered his fathers words, his fathers preaching words of the world outside, of how it wasn't good, how males ruled and females govelled, how the world was topsey turvey out here.
"Uhm well.." he broke off for a moment, this big male, he seemed friendly enough, his smile seemed genuine and the big male had answred his questions without attacking. He took that as a good sign. "I uh, I'm from a pride, but uh, well, I ran away from home because I don't wanna be like my dad." It was odd saying it like that, he wasn't ashamed of his father, far from it, but he didn't want to be his father either. He wanted to be free to be a male not labled just because he was of the male gender.
His ears flattened a litle and he looked at the ground. "I'v been out on my own for a couple of weeks..i'm sorry if I'v done wrong, I didn't know there was a pride here honest."

Unyezi watched the young male seem to lose his nerve, keeping an encouraging smile on his face. He didn't want to scare the youngster, though he didn't really believe it was the best idea for him to be out on his own. Cubs did it, but not all the time and it didn't make for the happiest and healthiest of lives. He tilted his head when the young one said he didn't want to be like his father. Unyezi loved his own father, tried to be the best father he could be and everything- but he was not ignorant to the idea of it not being that way for everybody.
"You haven't done anything wrong," he assured the youth, "We haven't had these lands claimed for too long, I wouldn't expect it to be common knowledge around the area here."
He looked the little lion up and down, making special note of the moon shape on his shoulder and smiling a bit before looking back to his eyes politely.
"You look like you've done quite well on your own so far," he commented.

"Oh," he paused and cleared his throat "Thankyou." he lifted his ears a little "I didn't mean to tress pass, my father told me you arn't supposed to just go traipsing over others lands. I just, don't really know how to tell whos lands are whos."
Pyke smiled a little, doing quite well felt like a compliment to the youngster and he couldn't help but lift his head a little. "My fathers an amazing hunter, he taught me very well sir. i can capture a rabbit or a young antelope without any trouble really." he paused for a moment "I kinda miss my family though. It's strange being alone yanno?"

"You learn as you get older, as you get more practice," Unyezi said with a smile. Picking up on small details that indicated claimed territory was one thing he'd been taught to do well enough because it was an important matter for those who ruled those territories. "As your hunting improves, as you become more experienced in general, you figure it out easier."
He was very impressed to hear that Pyke was capable of catching rabbits and small antelope without any trouble, but had to assume some part of it was exaggeration. He was still impressed.
"Wow, rabbits are quick little things," he commented, and he nodded, "It's strange being alone when you're used to having family or a pride around. I wouldn't like it much, I've always been in a pride."

"Yes, my father is a great hunter, his mother taught him how to hunt, though thats not usually their place." he paused closing his mouth very tightly as if he had said something very wrong. he had been told the srtories of his grand mother of how she was and how she taught her only child, Liza, to be a hunter for the soul reason of the damned elephant. He shook away the story and smiled bashfully.
"Yes, I have never been alone for this long before. I kinda miss my brothers, I don't miss my sisters much" He smiled toothily. "Is this pride I have come in to your pride then? Can you tell me about it?" he blinked owlishly a youth eagre to learn, truthfully, he was hoping the big male would invite him to stay, if only for a night.

"It's true that the hunt is often left to the lionesses, but that is not how it is everywhere," he commented when Pyke paused after commenting on whose place it was to hunt, "You've been on your own for a time, you've had to hunt for yourself. And in our pride here, the head hunter is male, and we only have one hunter and he is also male. Though in times like this, with so few of us available to dedicate full time to it, we all help out. Even me."
He smiled when Pyke mentioned missing his brothers but not his sisters. He could understand that sentiment in his own way. Every family was unique, there was no reason to question him on those little comments.
"Yes, this is my pride," he answered proudly, "I'm Unyezi, king of the Mwezi'Johari. I don't believe I learned your name or where exactly you're from."

Pykes jaw dropped. This big lion was a king? in his pride they had no kings, only queens. "I'v travelled from the Kununda'nahkhun. My mother goes by the name of Koi and my father is Liza." He paused, and stammered "I'v never met a king before, our pride doesn't have kings, only queens." He licked his dark lips then his ears flattening a little, he didn't acctually know exactly what a king was, his father had spoken breifly of the outside prides how males ruled instead of females. he deduced that this big lions king=-hood, meant he was the ruler. He found it odd but dashed away this thought. this was the way the world was outside of his old pride.
"My name is Pyke sir, and I really don't wanna go back home. I want to be something more than what my father is."

"Only queens?" Unyezi repeated, sounding slightly skeptical of the idea. Perhaps someone so young had simply not been around when their was a king, even a matrilineal pride in his mind would have a king. Unyezi was not certain he'd heard of this other pride to assume otherwise and so for now he simply said nothing else on the subject. He smiled, "Well, our pride has a queen as well. We are, the both of us, the rulers of this pride."
He smiled when Pyke introduce himself, and his ears flattened slightly at mentioning how he did not want to go back home.
"It's nice to meet you Pyke," he said politely, then continued thoughtfully, "We don't want any unnecessary trouble, but you could consider staying here and joining us. You won't be able to officially join a class until you are older, but it might spare you some difficulty of living on your own."
Unyezi did not want any trouble from angry parents if this led to any confusion, but he also did not think it was best for someone so young to be out on his own. It was his duty to recruit, to welcome others into the pride, and this was a good opportunity.

The youngsters ears perked happily, his tail swishing behind him. This was a kings world, a males world, well it was an equal world. A male and a female ruled, males wern't used as they were in his pride.
A vigerous nod shook Pykes head and he purred happily. "Yes, I would like that very much sir!" He smiled, a little embarressed by his outburst, but he felt good about this place, good about finding a home again, a home where he could be himself.

Enthusiasm was a good sign. Unyezi was uncertain on Pyke's situation with his old pride and his parents but did not imagine too much trouble could come from it. Pride lions generally preferred to be in prides anyway, right? Unyezi knew he was not one for a rogue life, and he'd always had a great deal of responsibility.
"Good!" he said approvingly, and nodded off in the direction of the pride, "Let's go, I'll introduce you to the priests and we'll find somewhere to get you settled." Pyke was young, so Unyezi presumed that he would want help in claiming himself a place to live- especially while he had no class. It was very possible he would end up staying near the central area until he was placed somewhere.
"We are ruled by the moon here," he explained, "Don't be alarmed when you run into a slave, they are not terribly mistreated, only unfortunate enough to have no favor with the Great Lion. He watches over us at night, his eye is known by most as the moon. When you are a bit older, when you are healthy enough, you will be initiated properly. On the night of the full moon, you'll be put to sleep- and whichever phase of the moon you wake under will determine your class. It will determine how watchful the Great Lion is of you."

Pyke nodded and followed quietly after Unyezi, his mind was full of questions and his young, tired ears only took in half of what the elder was telling him. he yawned and shook his head to clear away the worst of the sleep from his clouded mind.
After meeting the preists, and after some sleep he determined he would sit down and ask all the questions that needed to be answered.
The moon eh? A little smile flitted around his lips, the marking on his shoulder always reminded himof the moon. He was suddenly glad he had it. Yawning again he leaned a little in to the older male allowing himself to be directed.
he was ready to be a part of this new pride, this pride of the moon, no matter what his destiny would be.
