Event

Welcome to the shop’s first megaplot! Actually, it’s a small version of something larger I’d like to do someday, but I thought I’d start out small and see if it’s feasible.

These characters are only for people interested in RPing; if you’re not, or you don’t have the time, you will not be chosen for this role. This plot will take place throughout the month of August, and the people participating will have to start and complete up to three RPs a week during that time (less for the light-Rped characters; see the rules for more information).

Please note: If you have a problem RPing with certain people in SoA, you should not apply for any of these characters, because you might have to RP with them down the line. Also, several of these SoAs will die as part of the plot, and you probably won’t be reimbursed for the character (IE, you won’t be getting another character in it’s place at the end of the plot). If you cannot handle that, or you’re the type to whine if your character is killed, you should also not try for any of these characters. In addition, several of the characters will be pride leaders (these will be noted below!) so they will have RP requirements after the plot like any other pride leader would.

However, if you do complete the entire plot and stick with us, you get to keep your character at the end! And then do what you want with him/her, although I'd advise you to keep their personality (and, obviously, their history will remain the same).

Rules

1. No whining about the event. This is supposed to be fun, and it’s also free!
2. You may only enter for one character, so you only have the chance to win one character; choose who you will be entering for carefully.
3. Grammar and spelling do count. Please enter this event like you would be normally RPing. I won’t be super nit-picky, but consistent spelling or grammatical errors will count against you.
4. If you own an SoA, I will be looking at how much you RP the SoAs you currently have; I may choose someone I know will definitely RP the character but might not have the topmost RP skills over someone who has the topmost RP skills but may not actually RP the character.
5. There are little letters next to each character that corresponds how often they will need to be in certain RPs. L = Little RP (0-2 RPs required per week); M = Moderate RP (1-2 RPs required per week); H = Heavy RP (1-3 RPs required per week). The numbers are only approximated, and will vary with each week (for example, one character might not have any required RPs one week, then have two the next). Please choose a character that will fit best with your schedule for August! Note that three RPs are rare, and will probably only occur in the last week for most heavy-RP characters. This last week may be extended if more time is needed for it.

If you win …

1. You may be given certain secrets about your character or background information that only you should know. Please do NOT tell anybody about this information, not even OOCly, not even if they aren't playing another character. It's much, much more fun if this information comes out via RP. smile
2. You will be given the list of RPs you will need to do the next week BEFORE noon CST every Saturday of each week. You have until the next week on Saturday at noon CST to complete the RP (or RPs) sent to you. It is up to you to either do guild, thread, or AIM RP (in the case of the latter, please post your completed RPs in the guild). The RPs are only general guidelines of what the general result of the RP should be; how it happens is up to you! The RPs do not need to be extensive; one to three pages in the guild should certainly cover it.
3. Because I didn't specify any personality for the paired birds, you are able to choose the personality as you wish.
4. You will not be able to RP this character with any other characters except those already in this plot for the month of August. ICly, they have been cut off from the rest of SoA-land due to the earthquake.
5. If you do not RP when you are supposed to, you will automatically lose your character and the person beneath you will be given the chance to get that character if they still wish (and so on and so forth).
6. If you wish, you can certainly RP with other characters in the plot within reason (at certain points in the plot, some characters will be cut off from the rest, but that will be noted via PM) in non-required RP, provided you don’t go crazy and start running off with your own huge plots without approval beforehand.
7. You may not breed your character at any time during this event unless it is required as part of the plot. Some of the characters cannot be bred; these have been noted.
8. There will be several seers in this event. Please be sure to read up on what seers are and what they can and can't do before you apply. Also, there will be several very special seers given away with unique abilities that no other seer has; these abilities may not be used by anyone but these characters. ^___^
9. If you end up playing a character, any questions you have about this event at any time should be addressed via PM to Mila Farrell. ^___^ Likewise, if you’re having a problem getting RP with someone, also let me know. But you should try to work it out via AIM or PM without my assistance.

Applications:

- Some of these applications are single applications, and others will be applied for in groups (IE, you need to get a group together to apply with).
- If you apply as a group, you should apply like you'd be doing an RP, with each of you RPing as your particular character.
- To apply, just respond to the prompt noted for your character(s)! Please keep your replies under 2000 words (under 1000-1500 words would be nice, but if you feel that you have to write more, you can go up to 2000 words); you don't have to write a novel.
- Do not RP anybody except your character and his/her avian companion (who you will also own if you win). Some of these prompts will be more like an RP response than writing out an actual story; that's fine, it doesn't have to have an ending!

History:

Ancient past and pridal customs ....

Located in a series of valleys that are part of Africa's Great Rift Valley, the Aka'mleli ('Non-Feathered') pride has been in existance for three generations. The current king's grandfather was the founder, after he rescued a magnificiant martial eagle from the cruel claws of one of the pridal kings of the area at the time. Hestia, goddess of birds, was furious at the brutality to her then-mate, and helped the rescuer overthrow the existing pride and establish his own. She went even further, granting the pride a boon: each pride member would be paired to a member of the avian species, who would render them mutual assistance and companionship throughout their lifetimes. This pairing would usually only be between the lions and birds of prey, particularly raptors. If raptor or lion dies before the other does, they will be paired to another, normally a relative of the deceased bird or lion.

The Aka'mleli is the only lion pride, in living memory, that Hestia has assisted. The pride does not worship the bird goddess, but they greatly respect her; the birds they are bonded to, however, revere her.

The pride is always ruled by a king or queen and their consort; beneath them are a group of seers – always three in number – who advise the royal or royal pair. Extremely important members of the pride, seer children are always carefully trained and watched as soon as they're identified. Any cub who does not have a sense of honor or is callous or cruel must be dealt with carefully; if they continue that path into adolescence, they will be banished from the pride. Just slightly beneath these are a group of council members, appointed for life by the king or queen and his/her consort and each of the three seers, so there are typically four or five council members drawn from the pridal ranks. The general holds the next-highest rank, with three captains beneath him (or her). Scouts, guards, hunters, healers, storytellers, and nannies make up the remanining ranks.

Rogues may join the pride; it is rare, but not unheard of. To do so, they must have the approval of all three Seers and a majority of the council members, and be chosen by an avian companion. Such choosing happens typically at adolescence for those born into the pride. Cubs, therefore, do not need to met the last requirement.

Recent past ....

In the year preceding the earthquake, the Aka’mleli has prospered greatly through an era of peace. The old king, Ubawa (‘Wing’) took the pride years ago after dethroning his treacherous older brother. He now has two sons, Umoja (‘Alliance’) and Utunzo (‘Honor’); both are mated with offspring. The pride’s three seers are currently Ukweli (‘Truth’), Busara (‘Skill’), and Aminisha (‘Confidence’).

Although rogues are not often invited to join the pride, an exception has recently been made. A rogue lioness and her three cubs (Dumu, Peke, and Kuruka) have been accepted.

Disaster ....

During the earthquake that hit central Africa, the pride became fragmented due to rockslides and the ensuing panic that swept through the pride; there are now four major groups separated from one another. Quite a few members are either dead or wounded. To make matters worse, a group of vultures has taken control of the skies with all the dead carcasses of preybeasts and predators alike, and no Aka'mleli member wants to risk his or her bird companion to their claws, so their sky-communication is also destroyed for the moment.

One of the groups is Nyonda's, who is the mate to the heir, Umoja. She was wounded in a rockslide along with the huntress Elea, while they dragged her cubs Ubele and Ufunuo to safety. Umoja and Mapatano, the king's advisor, were trapped on the other side of the rockslide. Nyonda now lies in a cavern, recovering but severely injured; and, unfortunately, no healer has been stranded with the group. Ukweli, one of the Seers, is currently acting as the leader.

If that isn’t enough, the earthquake has also shaken loose several interloper rogues. With many of the adult members either too old or wounded to hunt, the pride desperately needs more healthy adults to feed all the mouths. For the moment, they’re stuck with the five extra rogues: Msiba, Machafuko, Kitisho, Mchawi, and Unyevu, who hunt for the pride for the right to stay with it. They have also arrived with bird-companions already ....

Meanwhile, Umoja and Mapatano have just woken up to find that the rockslide has effectively cut them off from the valley; to get back in, they'll have to find another route.

The Remaining Aka’mleli:

[M] Nyonda (‘Beloved’) [Female Adult Lioness] - The heir's mate, Nyonda hasn’t been seen by the pride in awhile; she is kept in a cavern by Ngao and Ukweli, who tend to her. Apparently, she was wounded in the earthquake, and Ukweli refuses to allow anyone near her at the present time in fear her condition will worsen. Nyonda is typically a quiet, sweet lioness, but she can be stubborn and inflexible when she needs to be, which often surprises anyone who tries to manipulate her. She has bonded to a female red-necked falcon, Hakiki (‘Determine’).

[L] Hisia (‘Emotion’) [Female Adult Lioness] - Nyonda’s and Ficha’s sister, Hisia, like her name suggests, is quick to emotion, and she can rarely ever hide her feelings. She is quick to make judgments … a trait which has alternately saved her and gotten her into trouble in the past. The lioness is passionate about her pride, and will do anything needed to defend it. It’s she that overcomes the reservations Ngao and Ukweli have about the rogue group, and welcomes Msiba and his entourage into the pride’s midst, eager to have more hunters. She is paired to an male African cuckoo-hawk, Samahani (‘Sorry’).

[M] Ufunuo (‘Revelation’) [Male Lion Cub] – The son of Nyonda and Umoja, Ufunuo has found a good friend in Dumu, who he often hangs around, although oddly enough it’s Dumu who takes the lead. Despite being so young, Ufu is thoughtful and willing to watch and listen rather than always act, rarely losing his temper … except around Peke’s taunts. He is not yet paired to a bird.

[H] Ubele (‘Feather’) [Female Lioness Cub] – The daughter of Nyonda and Umoja, and sister to Ufunuo, Ubele was a spoiled brat prior to the earthquake, as Hisia and Ficha lavished affection on the perky and attention-grabbing little cub. Ubele picks up the tense mood in the pride more than any of the other cubs, and the child is insecure enough to correspondingly want more attention from those adults she trusts: Hisia, Ukweli, and Hifadhi, none of whom have much time to spare for the child. She often picks verbal fights with Ngao, who doesn’t let her get away with acting too spoiled; therefore, Ubele attempts to get the captain in trouble whenever she can. The girl is a constant nuisance to her brother and the rogue cubs as well, as she sometimes treats them as inferior. She is not yet paired to a bird.

[L] Dumu (‘Endure’) [Male Lion Cub] - The eldest of his siblings, Dumu can be somewhat bossy and self-important while he tries to fill the gap of both father and now mother to Peke and Kuruka, which often ends poorly with Peke’s temper. Despite this, he is more easily swayed to mischief than the other cubs; a bad trait in a cub that’s supposed to be a role model. He is not yet paired to a bird.

[H] Peke (‘Isolation’) [Male Lion Cub] – Peke is a loner by nature. The young cub has a short temper, and will readily pick fights … as well as darkly sulk by himself if things don’t go well. He finds it difficult to integrate himself in the cubs’ games, and is often found trying to bait Ufunuo in particular. Younger than Dumu, he’s also smaller, and scrawny. He is not yet paired to a bird.

[L] Kuruka (‘Fly’) [Female Lioness Cub] - Timid and shy, Kuruka is the youngest of her siblings, Dumu and Peke. Never very confident to begin with, the little self-esteem that she had won when her mother and siblings were accepted into the pride was shattered with the earthquake and the subsequent disappearance of her mother. Oddly enough, it's Peke, not Dumu, who is overly-protective of her, so she sticks next to him. She is not yet paired to a bird.

[M] Ukweli (‘Truth’) [Male Adult Lion] - Ancient, Ukweli is one of the pride’s Three Seers, and the only one to end up with this particular group after the earthquake. He has a kind of world-weary patience with the numerous cubs running underfoot; to the other felines of the group, he is courteous and thoughtful. Even the interlopers are treated calmly and politely … even when they may not warrant it. With Nyonda seemingly too ill to lead, this old lion is in charge of the pride by right of his position as Seer. He is paired to the female lanner falcon, Viza (‘Curse’).

[M] Hifadhi (‘Guard’) [Male Adult Lion] – Hifadhi used to be the captain of the guard, until he became far too old to do so, and passed the position to his apprentice, Ngao. Now he is incredibly ancient, and is finding it difficult to retire. Stubborn as always, he wants to be able to fight as well as he used to … but his failing body means he can’t endure anywhere near as much as he used to. The male is loyal to the royal family personally, as he was the king’s best friend growing up. He, like Ukweli, is beyond breeding age and will not be able to have any cubs. Hifadhi is paired to the male western marsh harrier, Pepo (‘The Wind Howls’).

[H] Ngao (‘Shield’) [Female Adult Lioness]- Ngao is the captain of the guard, and perhaps the youngest in living memory; her skills as a fighter are exceptional. With all the problems the earthquake has posed for this fragmented group, she constantly worries … about her mentor, Hifadhi, who refuses to take life easy; about her prince’s mate, whose condition appears to be worsening; about the heirs, who may have lost their father, and who may be losing their mother; about her ability to fulfill her position … and about the five new felines in the Aka’mleli. Msiba, in particular, seems familiar, but she can’t quite place where she knows him from. Frustrated, she tries to keep an eye on the five, but she’s only one lioness … she can’t be everywhere, and they are helping with badly-needed hunting. She is paired to the noble male martial eagle, Hofu (‘Fear’).

[L] Elea (‘Be Logical’) [Female Adolescent Lioness] - One of the huntresses of the pride, Elea was wounded in one of the landslides of the earthquake; she has been crippled, and can no longer hunt properly, much as she tries. Prior to the event, she had taken pride in being one of the top huntresses, despite being so young. The disaster has made her feel rather worthless and alone: like most of the rest of the pride, she was cut off from her close kin, namely her sister, brother, and father. She is paired to the female white-backed vulture, Nadra (‘Rare’).

[L] Haja ('Request') [Female Adult Lioness] - Gossipy Haja is definitely not one to tell a secret to: she’ll tell everyone, probably twice. It’s perhaps her only major fault, though, as she’s a good-hearted individual otherwise; she just rarely thinks about the consequences her gossip may have. She has one trait that makes her very useful to the group, particularly now: she loves fish, and is an expert on catching them. She also loves to swim, unusual in a lion, and it’s perhaps for this reason that she is paired to the male African fish eagle, Maboya (‘Float’).

The Interlopers:

[H] Msiba (‘Disaster’) [Male Adult Lion] – Msiba is charismatic and handsome; and the unlikely leader of his little entourage. Despite Kitisho’s obvious strength, Msiba is the only one with enough intelligence and natural charm to keep the group together, and has managed to take over the pride with, so far, no bloodshed. Of the lionesses, only Ngao and Nyonda seem to be immune to his charm. He is paired to the male cape vulture, Werevu (‘Cunning’).

[L] Machafuko (‘Devastation’) [Male Adult Lion] – Msiba’s rather stupid and scrawny younger brother, Machafuko is barely tolerated by the rest of the pride. He’s lazy and loves food a bit too much, and is therefore a constant drain on the resources of the remaining lionesses. He whines a great deal, but is often cowed by Kitisho, who he then complains about (but quietly). He is paired to the female lammergeier, Mtalia (‘You despair’).

[L] Kitisho (‘Panic’) [Male Adult Lion] – An enormous lion, Kitisho is also disturbingly quiet, rarely speaking and taking his orders from Msiba … whatever orders he’s given. He gives the impression of rage barely restrained, but he – usually – manages to control it well. He’s perhaps one of the – if not the - greatest fighters on the savannah, and has the scars to prove it. Kitisho is paired to the male martial eagle, Ulinzi (‘Control’).

[H] Mchawi (‘Witch’) [Female Adult Lioness] – Mchawi prowls on the outskirts of the valley, upsetting the true members, all of who are a little afraid of her … something which Mchawi, disdainful, clearly cultivates. When she does come into the pride, she’s often found talking to her brother, Msiba, in private. When she’s not doing that, she appears to be lurking on the edges, waiting, and perhaps watching for something …Many of the lionesses do indeed think she’s a ‘witch,’ able to work magic – and perhaps curses – upon them. She is paired to the male white-necked raven, Nondo (‘Snake’).

[M] Unyevu (‘Fog’) [Male Adult Lion] - Bitter and silent, Unyevu stays around the interlopers, but it’s clear he’s ill at ease with them as well; something seems to haunt him, but whatever it is, he’s not saying. He is paired to the male black-chested snake eagle, Chozi (‘Teardrop’), the only living being he appears to care for.

Lost ...

[H] Umoja ('Alliance') [Male Adult Lion] - The heir to the throne, Umoja takes his duties seriously; since he was young, he was allowed in on the council’s talks and his father’s confidences. It has instilled a sense of honor, duty, and justice in him, even though his pride and ego are perhaps slightly larger than normal as a consequence. The male is very much a fighter and a lion of action: to be so cut off from the rest of the pride makes him restless – and reckless. Being stuck with Mapatano probably isn’t making things better. He is paired to the male martial eagle, Mfalme (‘King’). * He will be a pride leader, and will have pride leader requirements at the end.

[M] Mapatano (‘Compromise’) [Male Adult Lion] - Mapatano is Umoja’s cousin, son of Ubawa’s brother, who made a mess of the throne before Ubawa seized it, and almost led to Umoja’s mother’s death. Mapatano, however, is nothing like his father: he can be sardonic and cynical, but he’s always ready to keep his pride’s best interests in mind. Perhaps because of his father, Tano’s careful with what he says and does, to the point where it’s difficult for him to relax and have a good time. He’s loyal to Ubawa and his cousin, Umoja, and is paired to a female red kite, Hisa (‘Share’).

[L] Ajili ('Hurry') [Female Adult Lioness] - Very maternal and kindly, the rogue Ajili seems to treat everyone her age or younger with a motherly protectiveness. Her mate disappeared two moons ago, and so she and her little cub, Ingi, have been wandering trying to find him. Although in her heart Ajili fears the worst, she puts up a brave front on the outside.

[L] Ingi ('Many') [Male Lion Cub] - A pudgy rogue cub, Ingi is the sole offspring of Ajili and her missing mate. He is well looked after by his mother, and his plumpness is a testament to that fact. He’s often quite clumsy and not always that bright, but he has a heart of gold and is currently very trusting of everyone he meets.

so i had a quick question, i see how each of the animals are matched up with the prompts. Do we only RP with those in our groups? Or do we go with the remaining pride members vs. the ones that are lost?

No, in the actual event, you'll be RPing with a wide variety of the characters.

The reason I have people grouped together is that those particular characters may be RPing more together, and it's just easier to do that if you know those people. smile It'll make setting up RP times/threads smoother.

For the prompts themselves, though, you should only be applying with those characters (so for example, only Ufunuo and Ubele should be RPed together in the application form).

I read the rules a couple times and didn't see this so sorry if I somehow missed it still xDD

Can we try for more than one character? I know we can only get to play one in the end I was just wondering if we could apply for more than one. Thanks <3
