I'm curious. How do you guys feel about Barack Obama?
A lot of people say he's a Muslim (though he's actually a Christian, he just has a Muslim background) and they're scared by that. They shouldn't be, but everyone's still on edge after 9/11. I'm sorry that my country is like that. I'm not, so don't be offended, please.
So I just want to know what you guys think of him, if you have an opinion at all. Personally, I like him a lot. I don't care what religion he is, because your religious views don't really determine whether you'll be a good leader or not.
(P.S., Barack Obama is the democratic nominee for the presidential election this November in the United States.)

psht. i think he's too naive when it comes to foreign policy. as my life is going to be directly affected by his choices (i'm in the army) i'm not too pleased about him.
I don't see why anyone is scared by his Muslim background except the ultra-Christian nutbags.

IF we leave too quickly, we raise serious concerns about civil war + religious cleansing+ genocide. people are waaaaaaaaaay too picky about ethnic backgrounds over there, pisses the hell outta me.
I'd rather clean up a mess than let it ferment and get worse. We didn't take care of Afghanistan after completely assisting the Afghanis in fighting the Soviets, and look at the situation there now. I'm not saying we could have prevented 9/11, like a bajillion conspiracy threads seem to talk about, but I think we really just need to actually sit tight at and take care of what damage what was done. I'm tired of loose ends becoming knots and pains in the a**. North Korea is another fine example.

i don't like getting into politics much , but i like that guy dispite his Muslim background ... i guess he's going to be a good president to the USA and hopefully a good person to us Muslims!! coz if he wasn't a good person or even a good president ! then we'll face huge BIG problems ,, and about the iraq war ! i hope he is still on what he said u know to stop the war ... '' atleast we'll live a peace 4 years gonk with no war between americans and other countries xd ''

Because one vote won't change much, And I think Obama would make a good leader yet I don't wanna vote incase that person is not the same as I thought. I'll be thinking to myself "I voted for this guy?" I mean really, Republicans favor Rich folks while Democratics favor the poor and the majority of the people. Which is one of the reasons I would favor Democratic, But it's just I don't like either parties and such.

I'd rather they raise the driving age than lower the voting age, though. But if you're 18 and still don't vote, thennnn... no complaining later if you don't like the results. ;P That's all I'm saying.

A year? No, that's too short. when I'm talking about naive, that is what I am referring to. McCain has real military experience...sure he was a squid, but at least he knows the hell of battle and the cost of war better than anyone else in this gig.
Obama doesn't. Would it be nice to leave in 16 months? hell yes. practical? no. We can't even put in stability in the region and we've been there...how long? Leaving the mess the way it is...will only increase the casulties. Military History has taught me alot, and if there's one thing the US really needs to learn that the Brits found out at a high price is this: always clean up your messes. We should have done it the same way we dealt the nazis. Only take out a select group of people in power, not take out the whole damn police force and army and attempt to rebuild it from the ground up. The war was messed up from the start when politicians refused to listen to the military, pleading for them to NOT GO into Iraq. This is what happens when you get politicians that don't know the cost of war. They don't know what it's like to serve and have strategy. Instead they burst in, expecting to be praised like heroes. We're not going to be cheered if we leave in 16 months. More like jeered for not fixing everything. Obama sees the world in rosey-colored glasses, and that's what bothers me the most---lack of experience. Just because the guy wants to get me out faster doesn't mean he's any good at getting me out quickly and in a whole piece. I don't want to rush out, just to lose my leg. It's like going through a minefield...one must travel carefully. And slowly.

I understand... but between 16 months and 100 years, I'd much rather be out in 16 months. I'm not in the military, so my opinion might not be the same just for that reason. My cousin's husband died in Iraq, though, and it seems... meaningless to me, by now. I mean, I understand that it would be best if we could fix everything and be seen as heroes. But is that going to happen? I think the Iraqi people would just be happier if we left all together.
Are any of you guys in Iraq? Maybe you can offer me some more insight into this.
