When Kenshin goes to see his master, Yahiko mentions that Kenshin is already 28. In the anime at least

he's 28 bcos wiki says that he was 17 or 18 in the bakumatsu war and in the beginning of the series it says that it is the 11th year of meiji so that would mean he is 28.

And if that's not enough, in the anime at least, Hiko says that the swordsmanship of the idiot apprentice who left his training 15 years ago is still that of a 13-year-old.

I believe what Hiko said was: "Although he was superb with the blade, still he was only 14 years old and emotionally immature." Kenshin's swordmanship is that of an adult, but emotionally, he really hadn't grown beyond a 14-year-old.
On to the math: Kenshin was 14 when he left his training to fight in the Bakumatsu. He was 15 when he met and lived with Tomoe. He was 19 when he left to wander in 1868. He was 29 when he came into Tokyo in 1878 (the manga's math is actually incorrect).
He is 33 when he passes the Sakabatou on to Yahiko.

Oh, yeah, my bad. He did say "fourteen". sweatdrop So, the question now is: Is he 28 as EXPLICITLY STATED in the series, or 29 as THE MATH SHOWS? Or maybe Hiko was estimating the 15 years, rounding up?

I read up on wiki one time for his age and found something intriguing...
"Watsuki notes that he was surprised at how much it caught on, and how much he ended up having Kenshin use the sound during the series. Watsuki also planned to make Kenshin older than 30 years old; his editor commented that it was strange that the main character of a manga for teenagers was so old, so he made Kenshin 28 years old."-Wikipedia
Though *shrugs*

I keep wondering how old Tomoe was when Kenshin was 15... was she older if she was getting married or younger than he was?
I'm also wondering, if the series takes place at around 1878, when exactly does he and Kaoru have Kenji? Does anybody know if Kenji had children? Cuz in my fanfic, Kenji only has a daughter and she only has one son, me! mrgreen
