INTRODUCTION:

The phoenix has always been my favorite mythological creature, and as such I decided to make my avatar look like one. It is pretty straight-forward enough, and this thread serves not as a request for donations (though always appreciated), but rather as a spot to track my progress, discuss phoenixes (phonixii?) in general (see Contest post).

CONTEST:

Judging-
This is tricky, because I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to judge this one. If I could get two other volunteer judges, I'd appreciate it.

Concept-
Write a short (500 words or less) story about either a phoenix (even multiples of them, provided someone can tell me how its spelled) or your favorite mythical creature. Any situation accepted provided it remains PG-13.

Rules-
One entry per person. No "Charlie the Unicorn" or "Candy Mountain" stories. In fact, no fan fiction, or plagerism. Trust me, I'll know. Even if I somehow DON'T notice, someone will, and I'll get to know.
