Why is it illegal?

To ask for an activation code? I mean, I know its rude, but how come its illegal? I never knew this until I read the rules and guidlines...

It's just like stealing.
Because someone can just give you the code and you don't have to pay for it.
It's almost like pirating music.

Maxis has to pay all the developers and testers; and all the people that make the game possible.
If people are just using activation codes they got from someone they aren't making any money.

Asking for an activation code means that you haven't obtained the game by legal means. If you had then your game would have an activation code anyway.
