The Entrance Hall

Two oak doors open to let the students into Hogwarts. As soon as they enter, they'll notice three staircases. One goes up while two go down. The staircase on the left goes down to the dungeons and the Slytherin Common Room. The middle staircase leads up to the first floor. The last staircase on the right leads down to the kitchens and the Hufflepuff Common Room.

Here there are also four hourglasses: one for each house. These hourglasses keep the points scored. Each gem in the lower half of the hourglass signifies one point.

Since the Triwizard Tournament is being held here this year, the Goblet of Fire will be kept here, accepting the names of those who wish to enter. There's a line around it, and those who are too young may not pass, or they will suffer the consequences.

Abel Balas
Durmstrang

Abel briskly walked into the Entrance Hall, trying to get out of the crisp autumn weather as quickly as possible. It wasn't really that cold, but being on Durmstrang's ship on the Lake made his body temperature fall a few degrees more than the average Hogwarts student. He strolled about the hallway, stopping to examine the hourglasses filled with gems that occasionally fell to the bottom or rose to the top of the hourglass. As he finally began to warm up, he shed the gloves he had been wearing in order to reach into his pocket for the real reason he had come here: the slip of paper in his pocket. He toyed with the bit of parchment, wrapping and unwrapping it from around his finger repeatedly before finally removing it. It read:
Abel Alin Balas
Durmstrang
Fifth Year

"Best to just get it over with, I suppose," he reassured himself as he approached the Goblet. He stepped over the age line placed there by the school's administration and paused for a second, just to be sure that nothing had happened. After all, this was the first time that the Goblet was to be accepting fifth year students. He held his hand out over the blue flame and let the paper slip from his grasp, watching it drift into the fire. Though he was reluctant to pull his hand back from the warm glow of the Goblet, he placed his hands back into his pockets and strolled, as casually as possible, toward the first doorway he saw. However, he was once again distracted by the movement of the gems in the hourglasses, and let himself remain in the Hall for a few moments to observe this curious disciplinary system used by Hogwarts before joining some fellow Durmstrang comrades on their way to the Great Hall for some breakfast.

Deena walked down the main stairway, checking cautiously for any other students. Specks had climbed his way up onto her head and she paused for a moment to move him onto her shoulder - his little sucker feet hurt her hair if he slipped, and she hated the way it left all these little knots as he suctioned onto her.

She stepped up to the Goblet, and paused for a moment to examine it. It really did look magnificent. Carefully, she pulled a piece of paper out of her robes. It said:

Deena Martide
Hogwarts
Sixth Year

She paused a moment, then crossed the age line and quickly threw the piece of paper into the flames, still nervous and then turned away before it was even absorbed completely by the fire. She quickened her steps and began walking into the Great Hall.

((okay... this post is late, considering my earlier one... sorry...))
