And it may have been a small insert written (or commissioned) purely for the show by the music director.

Your ears deceived you. If the song was notable in any way, it would've been in the credits. Otherwise, it's by the sound director.

Shigeru is correct. I searched for information of that episode, and there is nothing noting any outside source for music. This song was created just for the episode.

it sounds a little bit like... "summer time." i think the artist is "mungo jerry" or something to that extent... not entirely sure though. hope i helped.
