Well... Lets get these forums started off LOL! Okay, first off, Ergo Proxy, AMAZING! The artist style was similar to the Ghost in the Shell caricatures that were portrayed within the anime. The show is incredibly Gothic with a real futuristic twist. Personally, it is definitely within my top 30 (yes... I own 500 anime... I have a LONG list) That being said there are a few things I would like to inquire about.

Does Pino actually understand the emotions the Cogito Virus are causing her to be aware of or is she just sort of imitating it?

Also, Do you think it was cliche to have Vincent Law being the Proxy of death... I mean COME ON!!! Can we BE a little more original? However the masks were amazing and really well detailed.

First of all, Ergo Proxy=#3 on my top list. biggrin
the plot, though confusing at times, was unlike any other anime I had ever seen. I was impressed by the animation, the English voice-overs, the characters and their histories, the whole feel of the series. it's incredible.

I don't think Pino was that "mentally advanced" to fully understand the transformation from normal auto-reiv to one that has the cogito virus. by that I mean she was innocent from the beginning; almost like she had an IQ of 200 with a mentality of a seven year old child. if you remember when Timothy died, she found out what "sad" was. before then, she was only feeling this strange emotion she never had when she was a normal auto-reiv. after that episode, I think she would take the emotions as they came. I saw that she exhibited anger and worry when Vincent didn't return to the Rabbit and she was "counting down til she was going to leave." I do think that she imitated some emotions, laughing when someone laughed, etc, but that she was only trying to learn what she was feeling.

I think I'm writing too much into this. lol.

mmm. regarding Vincent being the "proxy of death".. well, I didn't think it was cliche. I mean.. what do you think is worse/more cliche: being the proxy of death, or fighting the proxy of death and having some type of happy ending? I think it was a nice addition. he was too powerful to be any other type of proxy. I find it more interesting than cliche.

what I loved most about the anime was Vincent's transformation. when we first see him, he's shy.. introverted.. unsure and uneasy. his physical features included tiny little eyes that looked unopened, neatly combed hair, etc. before he finally leaves Romdo.. the first thing we see are his bright green eyes. it was almost startling to me. soon after then, his hair becomes messy.. he becomes bolder and stronger.. it was a full 180 from the Vincent we first laid eyes on.

Hmm.... I see your point. A genius, trapped in the mind of a child. I can see that. However, if you REALLY like this style then you should watch "Ghost in the Shell", "Texnolyze", and... "Howling's Moving Castle"... yeah... I think >_<. Now... The proxy of death in my opinion I guess after watching more of the series I better understand that this is the best choice. After seeing how two of the Proxies "fell in love" with each other, it would have been MORE cliche for it to be the Proxy of Love LOL!. However great points I really seem to better understand your position and if you have seen those anime already I have a vast collection I can prolly find SOMETHING for you LOL!

I used to watch Ghost in the Shell on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network) when it was on, but that was a long long time ago. lol. I've also seen the prices for just a fraction of the series (it's been around forever!) so I don't think I would get it. Texnolyze.. I think I saw a few episodes.. I think there was a reason why I didn't watch the rest of it. I think it didn't hold my interest that well. Howl's Moving Castle.. I don't think I've ever seen it, but I've definitely heard about it. I'll have to look into it. ;D I don't have a vast collection, but with a crazy obsessed anime fan for a husband, so I think I've got a wide knowledge of titles and plots. :]

true about the whole "proxy of love" thing. I think they played it off pretty well, didn't make the whole ending too sappy and didn't incorporate too much of a "love story" into it.

Totally agree with the ending of Ergo... However, sorry... about the title of "Howl's Moving Castle" I have so many movies and shows and manga I seriously forget half the titles LOL!

Texnolyze is bizarre at best. However if that is not your forte try Le Petite de Cosette... That is a beautiful, but gothic, 3 ep series that is just.... amazing...

oh my GOSH. we should make separate threads for all the anime we're discussing. hahah. I LOVED the animation of Petite Cosette. I, unfortunately, couldn't talk my husband into buying it for me. we got Burst Angel instead. xD
