Sorry, we have been talking about mainstream for FAR too long my friends. Lets bring a blast from the past that most of us know AND LOVE SO VERY VERY MUCH XD!

Cowboy Bebop... Amazing... that is all that can describe it. Spike, Jet, FAYEFAYE (she is gonna kill me for that one LOL), and... my favorite duo... Ed and Ein. This show seems to have spawned the TV Show, Firefly... short lived as well. *ahem*... this is anime not real TV... Okay, back to this show. Spike first off was a member of a gang cartel where he eventually "dies" and escapes the syndicate. Quite frankly without that crucial allusion.. the show would have just sucked. But the placement, I believe it was episode.... 5, where he was FIRST introduced as a member. I think it was when he was looking at Num-chucks... if I am not mistaken. However, this show was... I cannot think of any word LESS than amazing. The Bebop was old but reliable. Also the fact that they always seem to lose their bounty but still make it JUST by to survive LOL!

Here are my questions

Spike and Vicious... first battle... I thought it was amazing how the song "Green Bird" was playing in the background as he free-falls after he dropped the grenades. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Final battle... Surprising or not? Why? (Personally... it was incredibly sad... but seriously a great end to a show within my top 5 without a doubt)

Lastly... Faye and Spike... I really wanted to see them be together but... do you think Spike was really still in love with Julia? If so, what makes you say that? She DID betray him and didn't escape with him and stayed behind...

okay, okay. I love Cowboy Bebop. and I hate to correct you, but it's Ein (my husband and I have always wanted a little dog like Ein. awww.) and Julia (Spike's love interest, who I'd like to say was a cocky, stuck up broad. lol). sweatdrop sorry...
and I think the episode you're talking about might have been "Ballad of Fallen Angels" [ep. 5] where we get a glimpse of Spike's past. Episode 11 is actually "Toys in the Attic".. the one about the "oooo scary space monster!" lol. I can't remember where we really figure Spike's past.. I'll have to look over it again. sorry.

anyways. to answer a couple questions before I have to get to bed (I've got weekend classes gonk )..

yeah, I do believe Spike was still in love with Julia. that idiot (I'll have to side with Faye, here, lol) fell for another one of her tricks as she led him right to danger a second time so many years after she betrayed him. this must come down to you can't help who you love, and Spike would have done anything for Julia. I would have loved for Faye to keep Spike from going, but that's the way it ended. I can't complain. it was pretty sad the way Faye broke down after he left. that, and Ed's departure made me want to cry.

EVERY time I hear Rain, or even Ballad of Fallen Angels.. and of course Memory.. makes me wanna cry. lol. I think Bebop was the first series I actually watched. my sister in law had the whole set at the time, and we later bought the movie.. and I was immediately hooked. couldn't have asked for a better plot.

the creepiest episode? Pierrot La Fou. omfg. that gave me chills and nightmares for a strange reason. just creepy. but overall, Mushroom Samba was the most hilarious. biggrin

*sigh* I love this series. :3

First off, thanks for the corrections... this was #5 of 6 threads I wrote in an hour... My information was getting REAL jumbled. *ahem* anyways. You know, I really think though Faye... understood the way he felt after he left. That is why she broke down. She understood he had unfinished business with the syndicate and he had to go... However, Ed... *sigh*... I cried too...

I do have to agree that Spike was still in love with Julia. She may or may not have been in love with him, but I think she had some loyalty towards him (or at least regret over the last time) in what she did at the end. But ********, who cares?! She died anyways. In one of the saddest scenes in the whole series (second only to the last 30 seconds of the last episode).
I think Faye was very clearly in love with Spike, and I think he knew this. I think he actually wanted to be with Faye. I also think the last two episodes where he raids the syndicate hideout and whatnot was more about closure and tying up loose ends, rather than pure unfiltered revenge. I think he was finally trying to close that chapter of his life (or die trying) so he could move on with the one he had; with the family he had.

Closure... hmmm.. Interesting position. Why do you think it is that over the revenge for being "killed" once by the syndicate?

Well partially because I forgot that part, but also because it really does seem like he's setting up a nice little family in a way. He's got Jet, who's like a father or an uncle; Faye, who could be his "wife" or just as easily, his sister (that's kinda creepy, but oh well); Ed, the daughter/son type object; and Ein, the family pet. I think he wants to protect the peace he has with them (even though intergalactic bounty hunting doesn't seem very peaceful at all)

Here's what I have to say about that.

Spike
"There are three things I particularly hate. Kids, animals, and women with attitudes. So tell me Jet, why do we have all three neatly gathered on our ship?!"

lol. couldn't have said it better myself.
I think we all forgot the entire episode of "stray dog strut", Spike yelling about how much he hates dogs. xD

this makes me want to pull the series out and watch it again. :3

I lol'd in the middle of class reading this!!! HAHAHAHA That is so freaking amazing! But true... why DID they have all the things Spike hated on that ship? Granted Ed took over the ship, Ein was adorable, and Fayefaye was well... Fayefaye... But... did it justify having those things on the ship?

"You remember why I drag an empty coffin around wherever I go? I'll tell ya! Cause I'm putting your corpse inside it!" *crash, bang, splintering wood, open mouth stare at destroyed coffin*
"Pieces pieces all gone!"
"What's what with the who?"

"Hey mister, this here's the stairway to heaven. You know that, doncha?"
"Obnoxious little frog."

Faye Valentine swims with the fishes... in the bathroom.

"So that's how it is. The secret of the universe is so simple." *Jet pets his bonsai.*

And you know, I love the show, but... I haven't watched it in years. Like 4. Since this thread popped up I thought, as some of your all have too, hehe, sure, I'll check it out a again, and popped in Mushroom Samba, what I remember as one of the funniest episodes (along with the one they go back to earth looking for the VCR, "Nothing good comes from Earth." That was awesome too.) But...

Then I noticed the joke timing felt kind slow. I particularly remember the dude with the coffin as 10X funnier, and much more in the vein of Excel Saga kind of fast-paced Shinichiro Watanabe humor... I burst out laughing once, the first time I saw it... I guess anime gags have progressed a bit in their timing haha. Now we have people explode into super deformed expressions all the time, and Bebop is a bit before that trend, really.

On the whole though, the episode is still hilarious wink

I also remember the girl on Big Shots being much more scandalous and busty o,0 which is not really the case either haha!

Funny how you romanticize things in your head later sometimes wink

Maybe he's just claiming he hates them, but they've gotten under his skin and he grew to love them.

Man... Sephirob... deep stuff man... I dunno what to even say because that coffin WAS 10x funnier the first time you watch it! It was more of an intellectual humor behind it... much like Monster... or Hikaru no Go... But still amazingness man and that is the whole reason why I made this thread. I just started watching the show again that really made me want to talk about this one. It is a classic, mostly everyone knows it... and... every person that watches it walks away with a sort of message. What message did people get from this one?

Don't obsess over the past.
Bounty hunters are always broke.
Bell peppers and beef does not have to have beef. Especially when you're broke.

Yeah, and if he'd quit crashing cruisers he might get some beef with his bell peppers.
Oh wow, look at all the alliteration in that, I love it!
