For other RP-ers who just happened to stop by this forum and are interested for the background info (this is actually based on the RPG Rifts, but of course not exactly like it since I daresay that wouldn't be right), the setting is 300 years into the future, where everything has changed. Over two thirds of the world's human population has been annihilated. This, however, is due to the sudden opening of 'doors,' and these doors are actually doors to other dimensions. So millions of strange creatures were brought to Earth through these doors, and also, many humans were sucked in to wander from world to world. The earth learned through these doors (also called Rifts) of magic and psychic powers. The whole world has been changed for good.

The O' So Awesome Characters:

Username: cheeta-katt
Character name: Dustin Silver—also “Dusty”, but anyone who calls him that mysteriously end up brutally murdered the next day…oO Go figure?
Gender: male
Age: 18
Bio: Dustin prefers not to disclose his history. What we do know, however, is not pretty.
Dustin was born in a secluded part of Maine. His mother and father had built a cottage there after they were married—little is known about them before this, including their names. Apparently things went well for five years. During this time, Dustin’s father began designing an interesting weapon which he called the “Powerbreak”.
Then one day the house blew up and the parents were killed, leaving Dustin with a large scar covering his left knee. Apparently, his father used to work for a group of people who closed up rifts for a living, in their eyes cleansing the world of evil through purging the planet of foreign visitors. Unfortunately, at some point or another, they must’ve ticked off a nasty group of creatures.
The Powerbreak’s blueprints were almost destroyed in the explosion. Almost.
Traumatized, Dustin ran for his life. He learned quickly—in more ways than one—as his intelligence was far greater than most his age, allowing him to understand nigh instantly how machinery of any type worked, among other things. Simply through skimming texts and the web when he had questions, Dustin’s mind became an endless reservoir, never forgetting things that he discovered. At twelve he quit attempting to go to school at the places where he was able to stop, seeing as nobody taught him anything new; Dustin thusly devoted all his time and energy into getting revenge.
All this time, the Powerbreak’s scattered blueprints lay deep within his backpack.
At fourteen, Dustin finally finished the gun’s designs and sought to build it. Many parts had to be improvised, mainly the driving force and source of power. This turned out to be an old scrap engine—once found, assembly became easy and straight-forward enough, resulting in the new and improved V12 Powerbreak.
The weapon was finished at sixteen. At this point, Dustin began where his father left off, destroying all life that did not originate on Earth and eliminating the portals from whence they came. Refusing to discriminate between good and evil, no alien creature was spared.
Dustin went on his way to travel around the globe to further rid the world of evil through his inventions.
Dustin is now 18 and working on his greatest creation: a teleporter, which would allow him to navigate other dimensions in order to find his parent’s killers. He is searching everywhere, trying to find materials to complete this massive undertaking and actually make some money for his efforts.
Skills: Dustin appears to have the ability of intelligence. This allows him (among other things) to understand and invent all sorts of technology, comprehend most scientific theories, and even learn an alien language in the blink of an eye. This power is still growing, as is his knowledge. It has gotten so bad now that Dustin even fears that his life may end shortly because he has a high risk of “thinking himself to death”.
Appearance: As you can see from this picture, Dustin isn’t exactly the most handsome guy in the world: http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/972/dustinsilverbiopic2wx0.png (well, unless you’re into that sort of thing)
Dustin is naturally frail (inherited from his mother), but he loves the outdoors and traveling in general. This makes him stronger and more durable than one would think—the little meat he has on his bones is pure muscle. Dustin’s proportions are thusly rather strange, as he has tiny limbs but oversized hands and feet and strange, bulgy lumps where his muscles should be. Dustin attempts to cover up his frailness with baggy clothing, but that only seems to make things worse.
His most defining features include his startling emerald green eyes and the extremely bushy eyebrows that cover them up.

Username: Belting Out
Character Name: Jade Cast
Gender: female
Age: 16
Bio: For the bad part, Jade has no recollection of her life before she was seven years old (besides the strange nightmares she's been having this past year, but she tends to ignore that). This is probably because at the age of seven, she was found right in the middle of the savage wilderness by a merchant named Jake, unconscious and bleeding from the head. How she had survived, he had no idea, because she seemed to have gone out for days on end. So the merchant adopted her, seeing as he always traveled alone and felt pity for the child, and raised her as one of his own. Being a trader, he took her along with him across the North American state, from coast to coast, and from there she learnt many things, including the lay of the land, and how to survive in the savage wilderness without much supplies. She has a strange connection with nature, and always tends to be more relaxed in between trees in contrast to buildings. Her new father had also bought her a Vibro-spear with most of his savings so that she could learn to fend for herself (he was starting to get old at that point, and grew tired more easily). She's not one to fight her way out of trouble though, but to talk her way out of it.
Skills: She's quite talented with the spear, but her biggest talent is smooth talking. It's almost as if she could talk her way out of any trouble. (This is probably because her merchant father occasionally had to make illegal trades, and Jade picked up some of his methods.) She also can decide from just the first impression of the person whether he or she is unemployed, rich, poor, an undercover agent, etc. Animals tend to like her much, and she adopted a stray named Tobias, as he would never leave her side.
Appearance: Jade Her innocent-looking appearance actually helps her while convincing people to do what she pleases; but she's actually the total opposite of innocence, as she tends to be quite mischevious.

((Alright, all's set. So I guess I'll just start it off! Yay-ness!))

Unable to keep her eyes closed for more than five minutes, Jade tiptoed past her sleeping father's figure and emerged from the cottage. The fresh night scent revived her as it seeped through her lungs. Tobias saw her coming out from the cottage in his little dogg house, and he trotted towards her, placing his head in her lap. She rubbed him behind his ears, and sat in the dewy grass.
This wasn't the first time she hasn't been able to sleep. It had happened night after night, as more of those strange dreams kept waking her well past midnight. She couldn't remember most of them, but the ones she does remember aren't pleasant, and they send cold shivers down her spine. She had a little hunch not long ago that they were hidden memories of her past, but could all that really happen to a young girl?
It felt strange to be confined to this little cottage; she's always been on the rode with Jake. But he had told her that he had some huge trading opportunities in the city near this small cottage, and he couldn't miss them. Luckily for Jade, they had found this cottage away from the city (though not too far), right in the heart of a large meadow. She was fortunate to be away from all the buzz and concreteness of Lazlo, but right here in nature itself.
Jade grew bored from her thoughts and stood to stray into the meadow, far from the cottage. She wanted to explore her surroundings, get into trouble (which is why she brought along her spear), or just run around. She hated being confined to one place, and she wouldn't have it be so.

((Hmm…not quite sure how to start off here, but I’ll do my best. ^^; ))

It was nighttime, but Dustin was far from tired.
His large feet padded effortlessly along the ground, spongy from condensation. Morning was approaching, yet through the thick trees it was impossible to tell. He continued nonetheless.
Dustin was on a mission.
In his hand was a cell phone, small and polished smooth so that it glimmered like the sparkling leaves around him; it pulsed lightly with red as the tracker, activated and searching, locked onto a foreign creature somewhere nearby. Judging from the distance markers on screen, Dustin figured that the creature was somewhere in the close outskirts of the nearest town, Lazlo. And naturally, where there was a creature that didn’t belong…there would be a portal in its immediate vicinity.
His pace quickened as he noticed the trees thinning, fresh air and a cool breeze flowing in from the space just ahead. He was reaching a clearing. Heart pounding with anticipation, Dustin reached over his shoulder, pulling out the metal block creased with red—as soon as his fingers closed around the seamless handle he relaxed. At the blink of an eye, Dustin could activate the Powerbreak and protect himself from any danger. So long as that gun was in his hand, he was immune, and he knew it. A smile crept along Dustin’s face.
Suddenly the phone buzzed within his palm. Dustin’s gaze shot toward the screen; the target was moving, fast approaching his position. Had it sensed him from all that distance away? That couldn’t be good.
Habitually he started to run faster now, soon sprinting across the forest floor. Dustin could see the meadow now ahead of him; undoubtedly once he reached it, the creature would come charging out after him, ready to tear his frail body to shreds. Dustin tensed when something even weirder happened:
The tracker found a human.
A green dot appeared, much smaller and less prominent than the red. Dustin raised a shaggy eyebrow. Another human? Here? Thinking back before he strayed off the main roads, Dustin remembered seeing a few cart tracks—there was a good chance that it was just a merchant. But what in the world would they be doing out here at this time of night?
Dustin was moving at breakneck speed now, and as his attention was elsewhere from where he was going, he didn’t notice the large branch strewn in his path. With a sudden jerk his toes caught on the fallen limb. Dustin tumbled forward, far into the meadow and tall grasses that may have obscured his plunge, but definitely not all the noise he created in doing so.
The cell phone flew out of his hand and into the foliage, the red dot quickly gaining on the meadow.

Jade whistled to herself as she approached a small pond, Tobias right at her side, tongue out and panting. Something caught her eye in the bushes near her, and she stopped in mid-whistle to see what it is. She couldn't really make it out, but it seemed to be pulsing with two lights, a green one and a red one, the red one quickly approaching the green one. She looked to her sides to see if anyone had somehow lost this device, but there was no one in sight. She bent down and picked it up, and she caught sight of a bush of brown hair just as she bent down, attached to a torso, and limbs. She paused midway, head cocked to the side, and reached down to poke whoever it was; however, she darted around at the barking of Tobias, and was even more surprised to find a Griffin staring right down at her, bright blue eyes almost glowing. She was pretty much too shocked to move, and her grip even loosened on the spear. But when the Griffin reared back and roared loudly, she snapped out of it and rolled onto her side, dodging the Griffin's coming attack, and ran as fast as she could out of there. A Griffin? In a meadow? At this time of hour! She thought to herself as she ran at high speed towards the cottage. She stopped however two moments later, and realized she had left Tobias behind, and she darted back, eyes wide open with fear and spear held tight. She wasn't trying to attack the Griffin, no. That would be like running into the face of Death Himself. No, she just... well, she had no idea what she was about to do, but all she knew is that she had to have Tobias back at her side.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 17, 2008 9:17 pm
Dustin face-planted and got a good mouthful of dirt. He lay there for several moments, hurting and sullen. He dared not move.
Well smart move there, Dusty. He snarled, spitting out a glob of fresh soil and feeling rather stupid. Hopefully nobody saw that. Hopefully…
Without warning, Dustin looked to his side and came face-to-finger with the extended hand of a curious teen. She was…apparently about to poke him. Dustin only stared, too startled to do much else; it wasn’t every day he came into such close contact with a stranger, much less a stranger about his age. Most of them knew better.
At this point the synapses in Dustin’s brain were beginning to fire again, allowing him to react better to this situation. His choice of action was, naturally, to blow her to bits. A split second later he was on his feet, the Powerbreak’s charge switched so that it hummed like a camera’s flash—and yet the girl had already gone, scared off by the very large griffin that had found its way into the meadow and was staring down an annoying dog. The dog refused to shut up despite the danger this huge creature posed, either through bravery, protection, or plain stupidity. Dustin assumed the latter.
By no means were his concerns on saving the dog—at least not then. As he decided to move and get a better angle, however, he felt empathy for the pet. Dustin found that he really did not relate well with animals, but they were nice to talk to, mainly because most of them didn’t talk back. Conversely, they were pestering and ate too much for Dustin to keep one of his own. But he liked dogs.
Sighing, he raised the Powerbreak on his shoulder, clearly visible to the griffin since he chose not to move. It looked like he’d have to be the hero…again.
As Dustin watched the red blast of superheated chemicals explode from the barrel of the gun, he realized that he’d dropped his cell phone. Ah well…he’d get it back afterwards.

Jade slowed down as she saw someon dart from the bushes, near the Griffin. She recognized him as the person who had escaped her poke earlier, the one lying face down. She could make him out in the darkness by his huge and bushy hair. He apparently had some sort of weapon on his shoulder, and was aimed right at the griffin.
She stopped in her tracks when she saw a jet of red fire from that weapon, flat onto the griffin's face, and the results weren't pleasant: the griffin let out a screeching cry of pain, and reared back, clutching its face with one of it's wings. She could almost hear the chemicals sizzling onto the griffin's flesh. It appeared to be blinded, as it flew up to the air clumsily, only to fall back down. Jade felt some pity for it, but nevertheless, she did nothing to approach the scary creature. It didn't die, however, but was sent speeding back into the forest in pain, and scarred forever.
Jade saw Tobias run to her vigorously in the dark, and she bent down to hug him, and he took to licking her cheeck playfully. She was thankful he was still alive.
And she had that teen over there to thank, so she stood up and approached him, hand raised and saying, "Thanks, I owe you one." She stopped near him and wondered out loud, "Why, though, may I ask, where you sprawled like that in the bushes earlier?"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 20, 2008 9:47 am
Dustin grinned at the sound of sizzling tissue, almost laughing as he watched the griffin rear back in pain and attempt to fly. It gave him a sick joy to watch his prey struggle—but only in the irony that he had experienced the same suffering they faced now. By tracking the beasts down, he could cure his own sadness by placing it upon those who did not belong. Besides, what harm was Dustin accomplishing? The world was just fine before their ilk came.
He was disappointed, however, that he hadn’t killed it. At least it was blind; the griffin would not get far. Deciding that having a badly injured and wild griffin wandering about would be a bad thing if it managed to find the main road, Dustin took the initiative. As the brute sped past for the forest, he fired a few extra rounds at its back. If those hit, then there was a good chance that he wouldn’t have to follow it at all, for the chemicals wouldn’t heal for a good, long while, making them prone to infection. If he missed, then the griffin was by no means hard to track. So long as Dustin had his cell—
Crap!
He spun around on his heel and aimed the gun at the girl and her dog. The Powerbreak hummed reassuringly in the nighttime silence, barrel still glowing from the previous onslaught. His finger lightly tapped the trigger, impatient to abide by his reflexes and fire.
But she had said something, hadn’t she? Dustin cocked his head; upon remembering her question, he put on a cynical smile.
”Taking a nap,” he replied, voice dripping with sarcasm, ”Now then—where’s my phone?”

((Do excuse my late post. The new book of the Inheritance Cycle had come out, and I just had to have it and read it. sweatdrop ))

Jade flinched and held on to Tobias tight (to the point where he struggled for breath) when she saw the teen point his chemical weapon towards her. After seeing what pain the griffin had went through, she would take no chances. She darted to hide behind the tree, Tobias in her arms struggling to get free, but adrenaline was shooting through Jade's body and she didn't notice Tobias's discomfort until a few moments later. She heard some shuffling in the bushes not far from her and footsteps in the grass, and she saw that the teen with the gun was searching for something through the shrubs and bushes, and he muttered something about a cellphone. Jade had no idea what in the world he was talking about until she saw something blink in the corner of her eye, and she realized she was still holding on to that strange cell-like device she had found earlier. The red dot was now much farther away than the green dots, but still visible on the radar. She moved from side to side experimentally, and realized that one of the green dots was her, and the other was that other teen. She looked at the device, then at the teen, then at the device again. She decided to give it a shot.
She held her spear in one hand (as if it would provide any protection against the Powerbreak), device in the other, and approached the teen who was searching vigorously for this device deep inside the bushes. She bravely approached him, poked him on the back, put on a James Bond face, and said in an attempt at an intimidating voice, "I have what you want."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 22, 2008 7:52 pm
((No problem. I’m looking forward to reading it myself! :3 ))

Dustin could clearly see the fear in the girl’s eyes as he lifted the Powerbreak in front of him, pointing it at her head. She flinched so badly that the dog in her arms—the one that he had saved only moments earlier—was gasping for breath because of her overpowering grip. Like a cat cornered by a feral pack of dogs, she was searching for escape. Dustin wouldn’t allow it. Not by a—
In a flash the girl had darted off for the forest. Cursing under his breath, Dustin fired a few blasts, but his aim was faulty and they all missed by several inches. With only the faint glow of the moon to guide his attacks, she was quickly lost within the trees.
She must’ve taken it. That was the only explanation! Her guilt had forced her to run off…yeah, that had to be it. Dustin nodded methodically and dashed after her, determined. He would get that piece of equipment back if it meant killing the brat in the process. Her life—and that of the dog’s—was not of his concern.
After a few minutes of shuffling about the undergrowth, Dustin realized that he’d lost her trail. Without his tracker he had a bad sense of direction, and without the light it produced the forest was eerily dark. Dustin could not help but shiver. It might not have been immediately noticeable, but he actually had a bad phobia of darkness…among other things. Luckily the moon was especially vibrant tonight, able to create some sort of glow to work off of.
But now Dustin was paranoid. He could feel it, first creeping up through his neck, then down his torso to his arms so that his fingers twitched and shook, then finally to his feet so that he constantly paced, always looking in every direction for fear that somebody was behind him. Every noise presented a new enemy, every glint was a weapon being shot in his direction—
Suddenly, somebody poked his back. Without any further thought Dustin flung himself around, swinging the Powerbreak in a quick ark to use it as a melee weapon. Being made of several layers of nigh indestructible metals, even for its light weight it was easily capable of breaking a jaw in hand-to-hand combat.

((Now…you know, if you are ever confused about one of my posts, you’re totally free to ask me, right? I’m asking because your reply is a little off from what Dustin actually did—I don’t recall ever having him search through the bushes for his phone. As a matter of fact, he was going on the assumption that Jade had taken it, which was the reason for him turning on her in the first place. The question about where his phone had gone was actually directed at her, not to himself.
I’m not trying to sound rude or anything, but I’d like to know if my posts are ever unclear, so that I may fix them and remember your advice in the future. ^^ ))

((Oh really? Fan of Paolini, I see? And I just found out that Paolini himself was 20 minutes away from my place yesterday in an Indigo Bookstore, and I missed it. And O the the effort it is taking me not to bash my head against the keyboard! By a day. I missed it by a day. *dies* When will they ever discover Goddamn time travel.
And yeah, 'course I'd ask you if anything in your writing was unclear. I had thought that when Dustin had asked where his phone was, that was directed to himself more than to Jade. It's not that your writing was unclear, no not at all. It was just the way and tone I had personally read it in, if you catch my drift. I'll look to be more careful next time. My bad. n_n''))

Jade learnt not to take any chances with this guy after the few shots she had heard him fire not so long ago in her direction. So when he darted around and swung his Powerbreak at her, she had been ready for such an attack, and she lifted up her spear as to block the blow; if she hadn't it would've probably hit her head and left her unconscious for a while. And she was even a little surprised at the urgency and sudden power of the blow. She then realized this guy was always on the his feet, and possibly always wary. He almost seemed paranoid to the max, and it almost looked like there was an undying fire in his eyes, which unnerved Jade.
She told herself to stay clear of him for the moment, but at the same time she was curious (and she couldn't help herself, either). What business did he have with the griffin that showed up earlier? And why was he determined to have it dead?
She winced at the power of his swing and rolled backwards to where she had dropped the device he was looking for. She could hear Tobias bark near her, a little too near her which caused her to wince. She also glanced towards her arm; it appeared as though she had cut it along a sharp rock on the floor before her. It wasn't bleeding too much, but she had to remember to patch it up with a piece of cloth when this whole thing was over.
And she was determined to finish it quick, for she grabbed hold of the device and threw it to the crazed-looking teen. But as soon as she had thrown the device, she saw a blur of color pass between her and the teen. It lasted for just a moment, and the device seemed to have disappeared with that blur. Her head darted to her right, and she was only more surprised to see a beast resembling a wolf, except it appeared more ferocious and rabid. Not to mention it had a metallic arm and glass-like eye that darted from side to side, unnerving Jade and not to mention Tobias.
Unfortunately for Dustin, the cy-wolf had dismembered the device with its powerful teeth and jaw, and it lay in pieces before its front limbs. It let out a growl from the bottom of its throat, and stared at Jade with an almost-human-like frown, causing a shiver to run down her spine. Jade only stayed in her crouched position, readying herself for the cy-wolf's pounce, clutching the spear in hand ever so tightly. She could hear Tobias whimpering behind her, and she told herself to keep dead still as not to startle the cy-wolf to attack; that was the last thing she wanted.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 23, 2008 6:03 pm
((Don’t worry about it. ^^ I should’ve added something at the end to make Dustin’s intentions slightly clearer.))

Dustin hadn’t realized that the girl had such good reflexes; he naturally inferred that her own curiosity (and the stupidity shown in her resulting actions) meant that she was a simple slow-witted merchant’s child, or perhaps a spoiled city girl from the nearby populace out to escape with her dog to avoid the ills she so interpreted. Dustin could almost scoff. People in the towns always complained about such trivial matters. He wished that one day he could invent something that would put others in his shoes. The only thing holding Dustin back was the fear that his experiences would leave those who perceived them dead.
Digression aside, Dustin was surprised. He hadn’t even noticed the girl’s weapon at first until she used it to block his attack—however, he was mildly disappointed when he noted what it was. Vibro-spears were expensive, but almost every rich young adult in the modern era had one hidden away, if only to show off. Most of them could hardly figure out how to turn the darn things on, much less harness their abilities in a split second to defend themselves.
Nevertheless, the blow was still enough to make her flinch, forcing her to roll backwards and away from further attack. Dustin now had his finger on the trigger and was ready to fire; suddenly, his eyes shot towards her hand as she flung his cell phone into the air.
Dustin abandoned his planned countermeasure and lunged, reaching wildly for the device. Killing the girl and dog could wait. His phone was much more important.
However, just as he thought all was solved and done, the still airborne machinery was snatched just out of his reach. Dustin landed awkwardly, stumbling forward with unexpected momentum. The girl appeared just as surprised as he was—conversely, he was well aware of the danger before she had even registered where the creature had landed. He was also ready.
But he was not ready to see the coveted device now laying in shambles at the wolf’s feet, wires dangling from its mouth like stiff, rainbow-colored spaghetti. Dustin gaped, aghast at this turn for the worst. His shock quickly turned to livid anger.
”Sonofabitch!”
…The wolf was going to die.
His oversized hands moved like liquid, slapping a few buttons on the side of the Powerbreak as he held it far in front of him. The red, viscous liquid flowing about the fuel tank and the veins running within the weapon slowly changed color; within a few seconds the entire substance had turned bright gold. The calm humming that previously filled the air grew more violent as the internal temperature was recalibrated and the magnets were adjusted near the barrel, as to direct the metal-attracted ammunition towards it directed target rather than to other places. Unfortunately, the gun might as well be aimed at Dustin—his pockets had so many electronics in them that, even with precautionary measures, the recoil was going to be a lot more powerful than the assailant would’ve preferred.
Not immediately concerned with these obvious drawbacks, Dustin pulled the trigger anyways.
The kick was extreme, throwing him several feet in the opposite direction. Dustin’s back painfully made contact with a nearby tree, but at least it was enough to keep him from going any further. Meanwhile, the superheated chemical had locked onto its intended target like a heat-seeking missile, doomed to destroy the wolf lest another more powerful metal that had a more potent magnetism were to block the attack.

Jade almost scoffed at the teen's expression as he watched the cy-wolf cough up the wires that lay now in a little puddle of spit and drool from the wolf's mouth; his expression was one of utter surprise, and she thought she saw his eye twitch a little.
But a loud curse and a moment later, she was the one left jaw-dropped as she tried to follow his hand movements on his large Powerbreak, from button to button, eyes set and locked on the wolf and only it. Jade didn't have the time to turn her gaze to the wolf as a split second later, the substance in the barell of the gun turned to a shimmering gold and fired at the wolf. What Jade didn't see coming was violent jerk backwards; had she been in a better and less dangerous situation, she had burst out laughing (she was one to laugh at people's clumsy accidents, and although it seemed like the teen knew what he was doing, the sight was one of humor to Jade). She jerked her head towards the cy-wolf to watch the impact, and unfortunately it came to no avail: the cy-wolf saw the approaching missile (no doubt with his enhanced rotating blue orb of an eye), and with the mere raise of his right paw, set off something in his metallic robot-like arm that covered his silver arm with a bluish-gold coating of some substance Jade couldn't quite make out. It seemed to be a mixture between pure gold and a simple forcefield (those usually come in a blue hue). Its growth didn't stop at the arm, though, but continued to grow into something quite near to a shield. This all happened of course in less than a split second, and at moment of impact between missile and shield, the missile just went right through the glowing mechanism and didn't go out the other side; it was as if the wolf had opened some kind of door through this strange shield and sent the missile elsewhere. The fantastic glow of the shield diminished hugely, however, but it still appeared to be of some use. It probably took up a lot of power, swallowing up that missile and all, thought Jade, gaping at the wolf's defense, and she doubted the teen wouldn't be as awestruck as she was at the moment.
The shield then diminished and was returned back to his robotic limb, and the wolf snarled at the teen near her, then at her, almost like he was trying to decide his next target. It was a quick decision though, and he lunged out at Jade, and she thought she could see the reflection of her surprised face on one of his shiny teeth.
She reacted quick enough, however, and rolled to the side, only barely missing the wolf's talon-like claws, and she heard a part of her sleeve tear as it caught a rock. She swore under her breath and transferred part of her energy into her Vibro-spear. The blade of the spear-which took up a good quarter of the spear's length, lit up in an eerie green light for a moment, then subsided to a dull glow. She could feel the spear's vibrating beneath her fingers, and adrenaline pulsed through her veins. This wolf obviously meant harm, if not death, and she might as well help stop it from harming Tobias, if not the teen near her.
The wolf skidded to a halt behind her and growled even louder, baring his teeth. Jade made to rush towards him and attack, giving him the signal to pounce on her, and he did, but Jade knew better than to charge into Death's open arms. She stopped just when she appeared to leap, and to her expectations the wolf was in midair, and all she had to do was duck as fast as she could and thrust her spear upward, praying she had hit her target in the frenzy of the moment. Her Vibro blade gave her speed and agility, and for that she was thankful.

((Going on the assumption that, since you didn’t continue playing out the wolf’s actions, that I can control it somewhat? Correct me if I’m wrong. ^^; ))

Dustin’s grin could easily be seen against the yellow glow produced from the explosion; despite the fact that impact with the tree had knocked the wind from his lungs, leaving him gasping airily, he knew that his target had been reached. Excitement was evident in the way he quickly recovered, getting to his feet as if nothing had happened.
However, Dustin’s smile fell when he realized that not everything had gone as planned.
It wasn’t that he didn’t know of the cy-wolf’s abilities—Dustin was quite used to the annoying creatures by now—in reality, he knew now that he wasn’t in nearly as good of a position as the beast. When tracking organisms with heightened senses, such as that of the cy-wolf, surprise was of the essence. Dustin harnessed these opportunities with upmost dependence. Unfortunately, on the few times that the occasion presented itself to his prey…
The way the wolf looked at him, Dustin knew he was in trouble. And though he was no longer beaming as he once was, there was no doubt that he was determined to have the beast killed. Even the girl and her dog escaped his notice now, if only to remind him that, no matter who was the one to take the wolf down, Dustin would be sure to leave nothing more of it than a few smoldering piles of charred flesh and whatever machinery he could salvage to fix his mangled cell phone. Reassured, Dustin went to plan B.
The wolf’s reflexes were much too fast, so shooting at it would no longer have any effect—unless, of course, he were to harness the materials used for destroying portals…but those elements were few and far between. Replenishing his supply would take much too long, especially with the portal so close, so Dustin decided to save his resources for the real deal. Otherwise, his only option was to engage with physical attacks, much as the girl was doing currently with her spear. The best he could hope for was to use her as a distraction, allowing Dustin time to strike with an attack to the back of the neck or legs to at least cripple it. From there, things would get much easier.
As the other teen prepared her attack, Dustin rushed into the fray. He brandished the Powerbreak like a sword and ran without fear. Unlike the girl, Dustin did not fear death—he had suffered enough in his life that the underworld was a welcome retreat from his troubles. And though it looked as if she were about to deliver the final blow, Dustin was only concerned with having the creature’s body in a place where he could shoot it easier to leave his mark and have his revenge.
Dustin dashed ahead and leaped into the air, swinging the Powerbreak madly in front of him to hit the wolf's side.

((Yes, you do get to control the wolf as far as I know. xD And before I proceed, I have a question: what does Dustin plan to do? Because you pretty much left off with him all set to attack, but if he did attack, then my character should probably react as he did. But I don't really know how he attacked and what happened after that, just that he was going to attack. It's not so clear to me as what my character should do next since I do not know if Dustin actually attacked the wolf. I just wanted to make sure of that before I actually continued, so I wouldn't unknowingly act on your character's behalf.))
